Between the Perspectives
"but in your future, the you i see is exactly the person you always wanted to be."

Supplies have been loaded onto the ship, and the captains have encouraged all crew members to explore with the added notice that this will be the last planetary stop (hopefully) until the Moira reaches the Midway Hub. While seemingly uneventful on the Moira, the mini colony has been thrumming with adventure and has offered its visitors the opportunity to explore. To those who have indulged, some experienced great changes and others discovered enlightening information about the Ingress and the very ship some have called home for over a year.

Later in the month, the Lamaria hold the closing ceremony of the Desiderium Festival (which was noted on the prior event log) . The burgundy and lime colors of the celebration slowly fade into black and vermillion, and small fires are now in place for visitors to throw their written notes into. Everyone who participates will be blessed by one of the Lamaria (they will visit the ship as well), and the MID will be able to only translate bits and pieces of what this blessing means. "Experienced loss — every story is different — and saying goodbye — not to know — understanding lies in the mingling of holding on and letting go."

TRANSFORMATION CENTRAL
For some, it might be due to a touch or a look. For others, it might not be any of those things at all, and something that just happens. Either way, shortly after the blessing occurs, you will find yourself changing. Your character’s body will slowly transform into the physical likeness of another being on the Mini Colony. The effects of this change may last as short as a day or as long as a week, but each come with their own stipulations—advantages and disadvantages. This is limited to one as the blessing itself only allows for “a little understanding”. Linked below are some of the possible transformations that your character can go through. Players can choose either one of the mod-supplied suggestions or choose the form of another already living on the Moira.

THE FEAR MACHINE
Paranoia writes the checks, we're dangling here like a marionette. Here we go again, the world is coming to an end. Engage the fear machine and collect the dividends.

While the festival is beautiful, and some have found enlightenment and understanding here, there are those on the mini colony who don't enjoy the festivities. In a secluded room on the fifth floor in one of the buildings in the Science District, there is one such person who finds the religious festival to be a nuisance—one who should be stopped. Thinking that disrupting the blessings and celebration will somehow "get back" at the Lamaria for impeding their work (some of those who have transformed got into the building a few years ago and destroyed this person's property). Pettiness thrives, and they create something they dub The Fear Machine. Yet, while the science is sound, the technology itself is not.

In the middle of the mini colony, the machine is set off, and bolts of transparent energy erupt and spark out around it, stretching as far as the docked ships. Since the technology wasn't created properly to sustain the energy, it doesn't spread out evenly like they had hoped. Some are hit. Some are not. Those who are will develop a sudden and overwhelming phobia that will last well into the beginning of November. The machine might be turned off and left behind, but the obsessive fear has only just begun.

It's a shame kitten Rinzler can't go rodent hunting with Courser

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-10-24 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ The command had always been 'leave it', no offense intended. Besides, it wasn't like Adrien was going to pick up and check what gender pronoun would be applicable in this instance. Not with the tiny ball of fur growling and glaring.

Courser watched the small intruder move towards the plate of meat bits and he sighed, laying his head down on his paws. He glanced towards his companion and gave his colorful tail an annoyed twitch; Papa was going to owe him big for this.

Adrien made a mental note to give Courser another run at the over-sized rats that lived down on the colony, as he crossed his arms over his chest and watched their small guest with the food. The kitten seemed uncertain (look he didn't recognize fierce, precise, lethal ability when it was wrapped up in tiny fuzzy adorableness) not to mention the odd pattern.

The doctor figured it was best not to disturb the nomming. Instead, he retreated to his bed and sat down. Since Adrien believed himself to be in the company of one bahari and one baby cat, he didn't bother with his usual scowling, tense facade. Instead, he lay his arms along his thighs and leaned his head down, letting himself feel his exhaustion to the bone.

Assuming Rinzler obeyed the dictates of his small form and began to eat, Adrien would find himself oddly lulled by the sound. Who knew content chewing could be soothing? ]

Pffffff. Phrase it as a competition and he'll be there in seconds.

[Fierce lethality aside, there are worse descriptions for Rinzler's current state than uncertain. After his stint in a user shell, the program's familiar with solid energy intake—enough to recognize the necessity, regardless of its many flaws. The more he looks at this particular meal, though... that's definitely some kind of flesh. What from is less clear.

User world creatures did that, didn't they? Ate each other. Is this another cat, then? Or a user? Probably not the latter—there had been a surplus of concern about disposing of the empty shells after the Caducans attacked. And he'd assume they wouldn't recycle any of the functioning subroutines aboard the ship. None of the cats he'd visited in the garden had gone missing that he'd noticed, especially in the kind of quantity that would be needed.

Still, it's not exactly a comfortable thought. As much research as Rinzler's done about the various workings of the user world, he's deliberately avoided data on their feeding habits. In light of this circumstance... when he gets his own form back?

Rinzler silently resolves to keep on doing that.

Once he stops thinking about the food, it's appealing enough, and he can let the ingrained functions handle most of the process. It isn't long before the plate is clean, a few careful licks scraping off the juices that remain. Rinzler sits back on his haunches, feeling a satisfying warmth replace the gnawing weakness as he rubs a paw over his face-hairs, wiping what spatter he can't directly reach.

It takes a while to finish the perfunctory cleanup. When he's done, Rinzler stretches, limbs flexing as he tries to banish the heavy, sleepy feeling of the weight now settled in his gut. His tail comes up like a thin banner as he glances around, keeping an eye out for the not-cat as he picks his way toward the steady sounds of the user's breathing.]

[ Were Adrien capable of reading cat minds he'd have reassured the kitten that the creature he was nomming on was one of the over sized rodent like pests from the Mini-Colony. Not another cat or member of the crew!

Courser stayed up on the bed, eyes closing as he may have slipped into something of a protest sleep. Protesting the small interloper who was snacking on his food and giving him shit in his territory. Were the bond between bahari and human not as close as it was, there may have been a more active protest about the situation. However, Courser accepted fate with little more than a deep sigh.

Adrien remained in the hunched position he'd adopted all the way through Rinzler's meal. He didn't move until the kitten's movement caught his attention and he looked up. Unwatched by others, the doctor's normal scowl gave way to a small smile and he even chuckled softly at the banner like tail.

Someone looked pleased with himself!

Shifting slightly, he lowered one hand to kitten level. He didn't try to grab the small feline or force contact, but rather gave the kitten the option of approaching the fingers himself. ]

Get enough? [ He asked, as if he expected the kitten to be able to answer, though he continued to talk quietly. ] Or at least enough to make up for the hairball.

You're an interesting looking one, I have to give you that. [ He mused, to himself and were Rinzler to come close, the doctor may have tried to explore some of those curious orange markings in the black fur. If Rinzler kept his distance, in that haughty way of all things feline, the doctor would merely study them from afar.

Of course, were the kitten feeling bold enough to jump up on the bed with the man, he'd find that for such a prickly personality, Adrien had a secret thing for all things soft, warm and cozy when it came to his bedding. One of the small, creature comfort, hedonistic tendencies he allowed himself. ]

[Rinzler steps a little closer to the lowered hand, but not quite into reach—and mostly for some investigatory sniffing. Still smells like user. When his efforts fail to produce any new data, he ignores the appendage, stalking around closer to the user's face.

Proximity will give Adrien a slightly better view. The orange patches extend through fur to skin, some kind of bioluminescence brightening the color to a glow in dimmer light. It doesn't seem to distract the kitten much. His rumbling has quieted to an unmistakeable purr, and there's a slight twitch of the head at Adrien's question. A nod?

Followed quickly by a stretch, a dash at the wall, and another leap off it—not to the bed, but to whatever desk, nightstand, wardrobe, or other piece of furniture might be nearby. The motion is unnecessarily showy even by cat standards, and the smug emanating from the kitten as he sticks the landing is all but tangible. Interesting looking, nothing. Rinzler is functional, not decorative—he's coded to be the best.]

So adorable Rinzler

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-10-28 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It didn't come as a complete surprise when the kitten disdained his offer of a pet; though Adrien felt a small stab of disappointment. He liked animals, often more than most people; yes this is one of your ship's physicians.

Still, he didn't try to force his attention on the independent little creature. Instead, he watched that curious bio-luminescence coloration as the kitten strolled by, the purr getting a rare smile out of the doctor. He blinked then when Rinzler executed the dash and leap, both eyebrows raising as Adrien leaned back on his bed, back against the wall and legs drawn up. ]

Impressive. [ He remarked with a small nod of his own, the regard genuine. The kitten had once again found piles upon piles of technological bits that Tony was working on. He may cross one paperback, covered with word searches but the rest was all technology.

Letting the kitten explore without further comment, Adrien unfolded himself enough to reach beside his bed for a messenger bag that sat there. After a brief rummage, he surfaced with a small piece of paper. Crumpling it up into a ball he tossed it up in the air and lightly batted it towards the kitten. ]

He's sure you mean fierce and terrifying

[personal profile] notglitching 2016-10-29 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's a satisfied little twitch of the tail at the commentary, though Rinzler's attention is mostly on the mound of tiny components he's found his way into. Even in his proper form, Rinzler is software, not hardware, and he doesn't recognize most of the shapes—especially from this vantage. Still, he's worked on the transporters for almost a user-year, and there's definite deliberation as one glowing paw reaches to nudge a few bits aside, dragging others out into the open. Is the user...

Motion-fast-strike! The kitten whips around, a paw lashing out sideways toward the paper ball to smack it out of the air. Claws stay out, paw up as wide eyes track from the user to the... crinkly thing?... on the ground.

Threat? No, not really. The object—paper, Rinzler belatedly recognizes—doesn't appear to be moving further, and was far too light to make a damaging projectile. What, then? The kitten's stare comes back up to the user, paw lowering as its head angles a little to the side. The look is distinctly bewildered... though not completely without interest.]
prorenataa: (Intimate)

So Terrifying! *coughcutecough*

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-10-31 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The doctor watched the response, one eyebrow lifting at how quick and intense the kitten was in his attack on the paper ball. ]

Nice reflexes. [ He said, with genuine approval. He had raised Courser and a number of bahari on games like this. Maybe not small paper balls, even in their face hugger stage bahari were larger than this little one, but similar prey games.

Leaning forward, he reached down to pick up the ball where it had fallen, motionless, onto the floor. Showing it to the kitten, he gave it another toss so that it was once again in motion, crinkling and skittering. ]
