Between the Perspectives
"but in your future, the you i see is exactly the person you always wanted to be."

Supplies have been loaded onto the ship, and the captains have encouraged all crew members to explore with the added notice that this will be the last planetary stop (hopefully) until the Moira reaches the Midway Hub. While seemingly uneventful on the Moira, the mini colony has been thrumming with adventure and has offered its visitors the opportunity to explore. To those who have indulged, some experienced great changes and others discovered enlightening information about the Ingress and the very ship some have called home for over a year.

Later in the month, the Lamaria hold the closing ceremony of the Desiderium Festival (which was noted on the prior event log) . The burgundy and lime colors of the celebration slowly fade into black and vermillion, and small fires are now in place for visitors to throw their written notes into. Everyone who participates will be blessed by one of the Lamaria (they will visit the ship as well), and the MID will be able to only translate bits and pieces of what this blessing means. "Experienced loss — every story is different — and saying goodbye — not to know — understanding lies in the mingling of holding on and letting go."

TRANSFORMATION CENTRAL
For some, it might be due to a touch or a look. For others, it might not be any of those things at all, and something that just happens. Either way, shortly after the blessing occurs, you will find yourself changing. Your character’s body will slowly transform into the physical likeness of another being on the Mini Colony. The effects of this change may last as short as a day or as long as a week, but each come with their own stipulations—advantages and disadvantages. This is limited to one as the blessing itself only allows for “a little understanding”. Linked below are some of the possible transformations that your character can go through. Players can choose either one of the mod-supplied suggestions or choose the form of another already living on the Moira.

THE FEAR MACHINE
Paranoia writes the checks, we're dangling here like a marionette. Here we go again, the world is coming to an end. Engage the fear machine and collect the dividends.

While the festival is beautiful, and some have found enlightenment and understanding here, there are those on the mini colony who don't enjoy the festivities. In a secluded room on the fifth floor in one of the buildings in the Science District, there is one such person who finds the religious festival to be a nuisance—one who should be stopped. Thinking that disrupting the blessings and celebration will somehow "get back" at the Lamaria for impeding their work (some of those who have transformed got into the building a few years ago and destroyed this person's property). Pettiness thrives, and they create something they dub The Fear Machine. Yet, while the science is sound, the technology itself is not.

In the middle of the mini colony, the machine is set off, and bolts of transparent energy erupt and spark out around it, stretching as far as the docked ships. Since the technology wasn't created properly to sustain the energy, it doesn't spread out evenly like they had hoped. Some are hit. Some are not. Those who are will develop a sudden and overwhelming phobia that will last well into the beginning of November. The machine might be turned off and left behind, but the obsessive fear has only just begun.

"Oh!" She cannot help that small noise that comes out, because although the creature does look like nothing else she has seen, Padmé would say that cute would be a word that she would use for the feline. Not that she makes any untoward move towards it, as she knows enough about animals to know not to do that under normal circumstances.

"And just what were you doing in there." Not that she expects an answer from it, and she works on wedging the panel back in. "Clearly on a mission, hmm?"

As she isn't going to say the lost word. Unless someone had put it in there... Padmé hoped not, as she wouldn't condone that type of behaviour for any reason. "Well you're free now. I don't suppose you know where you would like to prowl off to next, do you? Or perhaps someone is looking for you."

The exclamation, he ignores, but the user's question catches him off-guard. The small face turns back, round eyes appraising her with some surprise. Yes, actually. He had been on a mission. Self-appointed, maybe, but scouting a location to prepare is an essential part of threat deletion.

Maybe this user isn't quite so stupid as he'd assumed. And now she's asking after his destination? Hm. Rinzler doesn't usually have much expectation for users to be useful, but...

He turns to her, sitting back on his hind legs, and jerks his head sharply: up. He'd like to get back in the ceiling.
democratically: (it isn't)

He shouldn't give her too much credit. Padmé had been talking mostly for the sake of talking, to soothe if necessary, although the little kitten hardly seems too worked up. Not that she is going to test and see whether or not it would be.

Yet her own surprised expression comes as it sits there, jerking its head upwards. She follow the motion, to look at the ceiling, before glancing back down. "You want up there?"

Cue a look of bewilderment from her, as certainly that can't be right... But maybe, just maybe, it could understand her, and it meant that it was trying to go somewhere, or do something. Unfortunately, it has found a rather short in stature woman who, likely even picking the kitten up and tossing it, might well still fall short of the target. "I suppose I can see if there is someway to make that possible."

Hey, most users can't read Rinzler's nonverbals when his render matches theirs. Wild guess or not, she got enough right to get credit for it.

And is continuing the trend. Rinzler waits, only the small twitches of his tail marking his impatience as she moves from surprise to confusion... to agreement? It sounds like agreement to him. Good. Rinzler stands, rumbling rising at a quick, satisfied pitch as he steps closer to the user. Time to get going!

Communication has always been a strength of hers, she could admit that. There are times when languages do not work and there are other ways that she needed to address issues. Thankfully though, her universe had been gifted enough to aid with technology when the need came.

She gets the impression though that the creature is an agreement. Looking up though... "Does it need to be this exact spot?"

Ah, technology. That thing Rinzler's supposed to be.

The question prompts a momentary consideration. This is the location he went down, and continuing his route would require getting back to it. But... if Rinzler's not quite willing to admit to being lost, it's true that his mental map had... drifted somewhat as he went.

The kitten shakes its head. Close would be good, but it doesn't have to be this exact spot.

So it could not form words, but at least it could communicate with motions. Rising, as Padmé is under the impression that picking the kitten up might not be the best idea, even if it might have been a bit faster. Glancing down the hallway for a moment, she looked back to the feline. "I think down a little bit. I might be able to find a spot to reach better."

Good call on the not-picking up. Potential maiming aside, the kitten's motivated and quick, even with his short legs. He follows Padme's glance and starts down the hall, stopping whenever he finds a vent that might be accessible.

Of course, having gone from significantly taller than Padme to significantly tiny, his perspective on 'accessible' may be a little skewed.
democratically: (hmm?)

[personal profile] democratically 2016-10-28 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
It is fairly quick, although easy enough to track as it scampers ahead on it's little legs. Padmé reaches the spot that has been chosen, eyeing it. While slightly lower than the other, it will still not be the easiest for her to reach. "I suppose all we can do is try."

This time it does take more work from Padmé, who works at an awkward angle, although she is able, in due course, to pry the two lower edges open, hoping that nothing nefarious would come of any of this. The gap is small, and she isn't entirely certain how accessible it is, but she looks down to her wayward companion. "Will that do?"

Small works. The vertical distance might be a slightly greater barrier, but Rinzler doesn't look like he lacks confidence. There's a slight twitch of a nod as the kitten backs up... then runs at the wall, leaping up to dig into an ornamental ridge around waist height and launch himself further. The maneuver covers an impressive amount of distance for such a small creature, but ends just slightly short of the goal—at least, until a paw lashes out and grabs the bottom edge of that pried up grating.

Which leaves Rinzler... dangling by one appendage, a good ways off the ground. Making angry noises at a vent. Truly, the enforcer's finest moment.

Padmé had not expected that reaction. In fact, she would have lifted the feline up as far as she could reach, and so she is caught off guard. As far as things went, she is fairly impressed at just how high he was able to get, but it seems that it isn't enough.

"Just- one moment." She might regret it, although she would regret it more if she does nothing. Stretching, her hands reach out, seeking to give the kitten's back legs something to get leverage on to boost the rest of the way.

Few people expect Rinzler's degree of dubious life choices. For good reason. His purchase in the grate stable—he's not completely sure he can retract those claws—and if the paw isn't designed to take his full weight, he's too small for the maneuver to cause damage. Forward motion, however, is distinctly hard. Light as he might be, his weight is bending the bottom edge of the grate down, while he's trying to climb up under it.

He struggles. He twists. He nearly gets a foot between the gap—and nearly loses his purchase right after. The commentary from below doesn't even process, and when his scrabbling back paws touch against hands, Rinzler nearly levitates another foot in shock. The kitten growls, head twisting back...

...to see the conveniently provided platform. Oh.

There's a momentary hesitation, but Rinzler does, in fact, scoot back onto the user's hands. With something to stand on, it's not too hard to unhook that paw, and once it's free, he can eel his head and shoulders into the gap beneath the vent cover. A few seconds later, Rinzler's peering down at Padmé from inside the vent, red-orange markings glowing brightly.

She thinks, perhaps, it might not have been the best choice, but her intentions are pure. There is little more that she is trying to do than to help the struggling creature reach its goal, for better or for worse. If the latter, she would admit to her part in the whole endeavor. It seems to realize though that she isn't there to hinder or to harm, but rather to help, and Padmé watches as the furry body scrambles up.

It is perhaps one of her stranger encounters to date, she thinks, as her hand drops, flicking her wrists to loosen them. A part of her just expects the creature to vanish, yet the movement catches her eye, and she gives a little nod of her head. "I have no idea what it is that you are doing, but good luck with it. Assuming it isn't something that shall get you, or I, in to trouble."

Trouble is, as always, relative. Rinzler doesn't respond to the concern, but watches, stare angled downward from his regained vantage. Eventually, four lines of light shift slightly as the kitten's head ducks in a nod.

The user had been helpful. She didn't need to be. He doesn't have an ID, but he'll remember, and he does owe her for this. For now, though? He has a ceiling to explore. Rinzler turns and makes his way off through the ceiling, quiet rumble fading as he goes.

Well, what's done is done anyway, and the creature seems to be happy being in the vents. It's not like it could get up to too much, or so Padmé thinks. Hopefully the kitten won't get stuck somewhere again though, but helping it hasn't cost Padmé anything, and that is her nature. To help those that require it. She takes the time to put the vent back in place, and despite herself, there is a small smile on her lips as she hears the pattering off feet and that rumble that slowly fades. This ship certainly does have it's moments, she thinks, as she resumes traveling down the halls.
