Between the Perspectives
"but in your future, the you i see is exactly the person you always wanted to be."

Supplies have been loaded onto the ship, and the captains have encouraged all crew members to explore with the added notice that this will be the last planetary stop (hopefully) until the Moira reaches the Midway Hub. While seemingly uneventful on the Moira, the mini colony has been thrumming with adventure and has offered its visitors the opportunity to explore. To those who have indulged, some experienced great changes and others discovered enlightening information about the Ingress and the very ship some have called home for over a year.

Later in the month, the Lamaria hold the closing ceremony of the Desiderium Festival (which was noted on the prior event log) . The burgundy and lime colors of the celebration slowly fade into black and vermillion, and small fires are now in place for visitors to throw their written notes into. Everyone who participates will be blessed by one of the Lamaria (they will visit the ship as well), and the MID will be able to only translate bits and pieces of what this blessing means. "Experienced loss — every story is different — and saying goodbye — not to know — understanding lies in the mingling of holding on and letting go."

TRANSFORMATION CENTRAL
For some, it might be due to a touch or a look. For others, it might not be any of those things at all, and something that just happens. Either way, shortly after the blessing occurs, you will find yourself changing. Your character’s body will slowly transform into the physical likeness of another being on the Mini Colony. The effects of this change may last as short as a day or as long as a week, but each come with their own stipulations—advantages and disadvantages. This is limited to one as the blessing itself only allows for “a little understanding”. Linked below are some of the possible transformations that your character can go through. Players can choose either one of the mod-supplied suggestions or choose the form of another already living on the Moira.

THE FEAR MACHINE
Paranoia writes the checks, we're dangling here like a marionette. Here we go again, the world is coming to an end. Engage the fear machine and collect the dividends.

While the festival is beautiful, and some have found enlightenment and understanding here, there are those on the mini colony who don't enjoy the festivities. In a secluded room on the fifth floor in one of the buildings in the Science District, there is one such person who finds the religious festival to be a nuisance—one who should be stopped. Thinking that disrupting the blessings and celebration will somehow "get back" at the Lamaria for impeding their work (some of those who have transformed got into the building a few years ago and destroyed this person's property). Pettiness thrives, and they create something they dub The Fear Machine. Yet, while the science is sound, the technology itself is not.

In the middle of the mini colony, the machine is set off, and bolts of transparent energy erupt and spark out around it, stretching as far as the docked ships. Since the technology wasn't created properly to sustain the energy, it doesn't spread out evenly like they had hoped. Some are hit. Some are not. Those who are will develop a sudden and overwhelming phobia that will last well into the beginning of November. The machine might be turned off and left behind, but the obsessive fear has only just begun.

The rumors had started to go around, enough to raise anyone's hackles. Shape-changers, body-snatchers, ghosts... it's not the first time the Moira's crew have had themselves changed against their will, and Bel wants no part of it. But one corner away from the ship, a little fuzzball on the street skids back and hisses as Bel turns the corner. The orange glow and telltale rumble are unmistakable.

...."Oh. Oh my God." Don't laugh, don't laugh -- "Don't claw, it's just me. You are Rinzler, right? What..." But there's nothing for Rinzler to write on, and even if the kitten was more inclined to speech than the program, he's stuck with feline anatomy now.

Bel sighs and squats down, sitting on heels and raising brows curiously. If Rinzler manages to slice them open in this shape, they'll deserve it. "Every time I think I've seen it all, this sector throws us a new one. I don't suppose there's any convenient way to change you back?"

The foot-leg might not have stepped on him, but it came close enough to resent. When Rinzler sees the user it's attached to, that really just confirms the sentiment. Bel_Thorne has oscillated between threat and irritation since Rinzler's import to this system.

They are, however, crouching (irritatingly) just out of reach. The program (cat) stands his ground, noise rattling out angrily as his tail lashes just behind. This frame might not have ranged attacks, but it does have a satisfying quantity of inbuilt weaponry, and if the user tries to detain him again, they'll regret the attempt.

The questions themselves are barely worth paying notice to—of course he's him, and do they really think he'd be like this now if he knew how to stop it? The tiny frame shifts, a wriggling twitch in the shoulders that might be a shrug... or coiling to strike.

Rinzler's a multitasker like that.

If you don't want to be a tripping hazard, you might try being taller is probably not the best conversational gambit here. Rinzler had clearly not taken this form by choice, and as deliciously telling as Bel might find it, he'll probably remember this later.

(Which is not to say that there won't be MID video taken the minute the kitten isn't looking. Not for the network, but some things need to be documented for posterity.)

The little shoulder-twitch is just beautiful to watch. Everyone on the Moira has grown familiar with Earth-type cats and their pointy bits, though Bel's heard the homegrown article is often much bigger, and the coiling resentment is palpable. It takes a heroic effort to keep a straight face, but Bel manages it, light voice as neutral as hell. "If you need a lift back to the ship, I was going that way myself."

Rinzler might not be aware of any video plans, but considering how thoroughly his glower is locked on Bel, it might take some careful timing. The offer, however, draws an irritated mrrp.

He doesn't need help. He definitely doesn't need lifting. Back might not be as bad an idea, but he can travel there without letting a user grab him.

That is not the face of a cat who's enjoying being a cat. It's made Bel's day, whatever else befalls -- far more than Bel will be letting Rinzler know. Yes, scooping the kitty up and taking him home is a terrible idea that will never work out, but they'll always have the mental image.

"Well, suit yourself." Rocking back on heels, Bel gives Rinzler a grave little nod. "Anything else you need while you're out here?" Mice? A little bell? "I might be back this way, if I don't change myself."

Suiting himself is... actually not one of Rinzler's talents, but not suiting other people very much makes the list. Especially users. Especially users he doesn't like. Though if he were disposed to be fair, Bel might earn some points for the lack of commentary.

Fairness, however, is rarely on the table. And definitely not now. The suspicious glaring persists, interrupted only by a pointed headshake. He's functioning just fine on his own.

Obviously.

That's as definite a no! as could be expected from a creature approximately the size and weight of a teacup. Hopefully less fragile... but stalking Rinzler all over the colony to keep him from being stepped on again doesn't really appeal. With a half-smile and a serious nod, Bel stands and heads for the corner at the other end of the alley. There's got to be a place nearby to break into laughter without damaging Rinzler's sensitive self-image.

The whole business is tiring, though, and Bel's step is slow -- maybe Rinzler will follow them instead. Getting too old for this.... It's not surprising the poor thing should be nervous; who knew what he'd seen others turn into lately. Someone should take him back to the ship before he gets hurt. Even the air feels heavy today.....

...The choked sound that grates around the corner a few moments later, just out of Rinzler's sight, is not one of amusement.

The kitten stands its ground as Bel nods and turns, only the continued twitches of his tail betraying his wariness. That went... easier than expected. If it was really over. And if the user wasn't planning to go tell others about his current state.

Not that Rinzler would mind having an excuse to test that weaponry.

Still, there's not much to be done about potential future threats now, and Rinzler has his own challenge to work on: getting back to the ship without letting the user think he was following. The headstart might help. A different route would be even better, and the program glances around for an appropriate vantage for pathfinding before spotting a tall tree.

He dashes closer, leaps up, claws digging in to the soft-scaled bark to propel himself further up. It takes surprisingly little friction to maneuver when you weigh less than a pound. Score one point for this form. Rinzler clings to the side, small head craning for the top... when he hears a sharp choking noise from around the corner.

The same way the user went.

Rinzler peers in that direction curiously. There's not much to make out between the tufted mass of branches, but one of the longer extensions goes in that direction. The kitten stalks out along the narrow branch, one foot in front of another as he looks for a good view.

It had started fast. Only moments until Bel had realized that the sudden change in temperature and humidity wasn't coming from the air around them. A spate of very blue language later, with nowhere but a little cobbled alcove under the trees to escape to before it was too late, a wave of dizziness tipped the ground out to one side.

Then everything went away.

Maybe it wasn't painless; there was a lot of growling, a loud pop as the seams of Bel's tunic gave way, some thrashing and scrambling. But when it was over, the thing lying in the cobbled alcove seemed to be unconscious, tangled in now-ill-fitting clothing.... and covered with shaggy, grey-brown fur.
