"It is an exploration for truth; the reveal can be more terrifying than the unknown."

With supplies low and the general morale of the crew very much the same, the Moira still continues to move through the Runoff at a decent speed. As per Captain Ira's orders, plans to stop at the nearest port of call to re-supply and (hopefully) give those aboard a chance to recover from the catastrophe of the Luminous Sea and its subsequent plants have been made priority. Without much incident, after nearly a week and a half of traveling, the ship makes ready to dock.

WELCOME TO THE MINI COLONY

The Mini Colony was first established as a outpost between the Fixed Moons and the Living City of Inanna. Yet, over the centuries, it has flourished into an outpost of trade and commerce as well as is home to numerous individuals from across the universes. The temperature is generally mild all year, and even when it isn't, there are control units throughout the Mini Colony regulating weather conditions to keep it from such high extremes. Its citizens, while diverse, appear to cohabitate together well and are generally welcoming to those traveling through. However, beyond the numerous tourist areas, there are more dangerous and less friendly places in the Mini Colony. Anything and everything can be found here. You just have to know the right person to ask.

OUT AND ABOUT
There is quite a lot to see in the Mini Colony, and not even an entire week will allow for all that this place has to offer. Aside from the multiple businesses found within the MC, there are also plenty of other sectors ready to be explored by those crew members willing to brave these particular places. Yet, within these sectors, there are some "unknown" places that not even the locals really give much attention to. If explored, everything is as normal as any other place on the Mini Colony, but as time progresses, the trek through begins to take longer and longer. Soon, you find yourself tired and with no end in sight as to happening upon another sector, and after a while, a nearby bench seems to beckon you to sit. Upon sitting, a soft humming sound fills your ears and in the span between blinks, you're suddenly waking up on the Moira just as it docks at the Mini Colony. Talk about deja vu.

SWEET NOTES
After a few days, those aboard the ship may notice that particular areas of the Mini Colony are beginning to prepare for some sort of celebration. This festival is known as the Desiderium Festival, which derives from "an ardent desire for something that has been lost", and is a celebration to remember and honor the dead—as well as the living. It is celebrated with a particular fruit that ripens around this date every year. This citrus fruit is tart, yet sweet, and crumbles into caviar when removed from its rind; the fruit has no special effects on the eater but pairs nicely with alcohol for after-hours consumption. The group that throws this festival, the Lamaria, make paper from the rinds of the fruits, which is then used to write on and is the only proper paper for these notes to be written on. As fitting the occasion, people wear special finery to present the notes to their friends and relatives and to wear to the grave sites where they leave the notes for the dead. These tend to be burgundy and lime colors, like the fruits, and are shot through with gold. Participating is considered a great honor, so if asked to join, carefully consider before declining.

Liquid would certainly rather be known as the greatest soldier ever than as a failed terrorist, but there wasn't much he could do about that one. At least wherever they go, no one seems to know about that.

He's not complaining about all the speculation, either, because he finds it amusing. Hey, this time he gets to be the better-liked brother, right?

"I suppose the closest thing'd be rugby, or maybe American football. Rather violent, too. I've had teammates die on me already, which explains why they needed people so bad." He's very matter-of-fact about this, like it's perfectly normal.

All of his teammates had died on Shadow Moses, after all. Other than Ocelot, but he didn't count.

"There's a big tournament coming up, and I think we've got this won for sure."

Rugby would be the more violent out of those two sports, if only because not as much padding is involved. But when Liquid mentions that some of his teammates have died while playing, Snake tenses, eyes widening as he stares at his brother like he's nuts. How does he not see a problem with this?

"Are you kidding me?" he spits out, his voice raising a little higher than it should and attracting the attention of some of the people around them. Snake grunts in frustration and moves a little closer to Liquid so that he can lower his voice.

"That sounds more like a gladiatorial death match than some kind of sport. Why would anyone join something like that of their own free will if they knew they might die?" There are plenty of reasons. Pride and overconfidence, for one thing, and Snake's sure that's what drove Liquid's choice. But it's possible that some of his teammates, some of those people who died, didn't even have a choice in the matter.

No matter what way you look at it, this sounds shady and Snake can't believe that Liquid's acting like the whole thing is normal. Or maybe it's completely believable.

Well, now that Snake's practically shouting about it, it's Liquid's turn to look at his brother like he's nuts. "Don't make a bloody scene," he says, in the exact kind of voice of someone amused by someone making a scene, glancing around at the people who are still milling around him.

He crosses his arms when Snake moves closer, scoffing lightly. "Hah. Not in the least. It's not like people are dying for the hell of it. It's just a bit... dangerous. Some people like danger." Liquid seems to, apparently. "Death's a possibility, not a requirement." Although... the violence is kind of encouraged, but it's best not to tell Snake that. "Besides, winning's pretty damn prestigious, as you can see." Plenty of perks. "You just have to be good. If you're not good? Well, I suppose you get eliminated then, don't you?"

His fans certainly think he's good.

He raises a hand in a sort of half-shrug, half-vague wave. "It's not like it's that big of a deal. Maybe they just do things differently around here. No one on the team seems to have a problem with it. We'll win the tournament, and then everyone can take a break for a bit."

The fact that Liquid doesn't seem to think that people dying for the sake of some sports game doesn't count as "dying for the hell of it" goes to show just how broken his perceptions are when it comes to life and death. The more that he carries on like it's something to simply shrug off and move on from, the more Snake feels his hands balling into tight fists.

Granted, it's possible that things are done differently around here and that's part of the culture, but Snake can't shake the thought that there's more to it. Survival instinct is supposed to be ingrained in any species, and Snake doesn't see why that would differ out in space.

"I'd call that dying for the hell of it, Liquid," Snake intones, speaking slowly as if that will somehow cause the meaning to be transferred more clearly. He doesn't know why he even bothers. "Have you bothered to ask any of your teammates why they would participate in something so dangerous? Maybe they're being manipulated into it. Maybe they owe someone money. There's a lot that could be going on and you're acting like everything's hunky-dory?"

Some of the fans have sensed that something is going on and have started to move away, while others are even more interested in eavesdropping.

Well, Liquid had been dead for a good several years, at least until the Ingress decided he needed a resurrection. Maybe his perception's a bit skewed. Maybe his perception's always been a bit skewed. Such is life when you're the flawed clone trying to scramble for a place in the world.

That's how it's always seemed to him.

He adopts a more defensive pose and a glare to go with it, ready to strike back if Snake feels the need to go after him for something as stupid as another place's sports culture.

"Bloody hell, Snake. Yeah, that's some really riveting locker room conversation, isn't it? 'Oh, right, Xoxxorx, I've been meaning to ask, you're not being extorted into this, right?' Maybe I'm not some sort of expert in sports-related camaraderie, but nobody seems to have a problem with this except you. We go out, do our thing, win, and everyone understands the potential consequences."

Noticing some getting closer, Liquid tries to shoo some of the fans away, which does about as good as expected. Hoo boy, this sure has been something.

All right, Liquid might have a point there. On the other hand, there must be some way that he can dig into this a little more and make sure that everyone truly has joined the team of their own free will. The fact that Liquid hasn't even considered it until now is what has Snake so wound up.

He isn't going to actually throw a punch over this. No, if anything he'll just start his own investigation. He certainly doesn't have any interest in working alongside Liquid on... well, pretty much anything.

Since the fans don't seem to have any interest in leaving them alone, Snake figures that he's better off beating a quick path away from here. Harassing the team's new star player is only going to get a target painted onto his back.

"Fine. In that case, I'll just leave you to cater to your adoring fans," Snake says, the sarcasm thick in his voice. He doesn't understand how Liquid can stand around signing autographs with the knowledge that some of his teammates have lost their lives in the course of the game he's promoting.

It might seem silly for Snake to be so wound up about this, given his line of work, but dying in the midst of a battle is different from dying due to a game that ultimately has no real bearing on anything.

With a deep sigh, he makes to leave.

Meanwhile, Liquid can't really get why Snake can't really get it. He got recruited in a completely normal fashion; what reason does he have to believe that the others haven't been recruited in the same way?

Of course, he won't pretend he cares enough to try and research every single one of his teammates. They've all worked out something of an acquaintanceship over the games he's participated in, but they're nowhere near 'trust' levels, and it's rare that anyone ever really will be. He knows their abilities, how he can get along with their personalities, and that's all he really needs for the moment.

He just rolls his eyes at Snake's tone, and grabs the nearest person's piece of sports memorabilia just so he can sign the autograph and make a point or something. Look, he's finally getting the attention he deserves or something like that. He's not going to let his brother ruin something else for him.

"Don't forget to catch the tournament," Liquid calls after him once he leaves, in a voice that implies he doesn't really care if he catches it or not. Jeez, Snake's always trying to ruin his moment, isn't he?
