[Nate stares at him for a moment, and then touches his junction device.]

What if you could? What if we could get someone to upgrade this [he lifts the device slightly] for time travel as well as world?

[Nate stares at him for a long moment before closing his eyes briefly, almost wincing.]

Don't ask me that when it's a what-if and not something you even know if it ever could be possible. You don't—I can't open that up again.

[He rests a hand on his chest, like he can show the kid where Sam's death ripped a hole in his heart. It took so long for that wound to heal as much as it did. And now imagining what if, what the repercussions could be...it starts to tear it open again.]

We're talking to ourselves, with different memories, on a planet in another universe. I don't know what's impossible any more.

[He drops his hand from his device.] But okay. I won't tell you until I have something either way.

I'm... gonna go. [Not that he particularly has somewhere to be, he just doesn't want to be here, with the bearer of bad news.]
