[ because that's exactly how andyr ended up chugging russian vodka to begin with, thanks, bucky barnes, you bitch. attempting to outdrink a super soldier when you've never been drunk before in your life and the last 6.5 years have had you on the most absurd health nut diet there is: the andyr prince story. but he's always been terrible about ignoring a challenge, despite how sure he is that he'll lose. he's just far too competitive for it.
either way, he wrinkles his nose, shrugging. ]
Dunno if I really like it that much. Guess I'll try it again slower some time.
[ like later, when they get to the party, and after a year goes by and andyr realizes how shitty it was, he'll hate it even more :'D he's just doomed to never be a drinker.
it surprises him, some, to realize that, yes, they are actually getting on pretty well right now. Andyr can probably count on his hands alone the people he's actually gotten along immediately with on this ship, and Dutch seems to be one of them. A small, slightly awkward smile twitches at his lips, but there's something genuine in it. ]
Yeah. Guess we are. [ andyr pauses, thinking on it for a moment. ] Dunno that I'm that good of a friend, though.

I’d say, if he really is a douche, that’s when you sneak some eye drops into his drink. I save that for when people are truly pissing me off, though. It’s a nasty trick and I’m probably a bad person for using it.
[ Her lips curl into a smile. ]
Alcohol isn’t so bad. Even the lightest of drinkers I know enjoy a glass of champagne on New Year’s Eve.
[ Her opinions are bound to change a little later, too, when she winds up dazed and intoxicated on an alien planet for a full year, but for now she’s definitely pro-alcohol.
She grins at him when he voices his doubts about being a good friend. ]
No worries. I’m not sure I’m the best friend, either. If we do in fact wind up being friends we can be a pair of so-so friends.

[ andyr's never tried to drink ethanol, but that's what he'd liken the taste of bucky's vodka to. or like he was trying to sterilize himself from the inside out. he shakes his head after a moment, clearing the memory of bucky and his demon vodka. ]
I'll take your word for it, 'til I can find something easier to swallow.
[ champagne - he keeps the word in mind. not that he doesn't know what it is, but there's a few million different kinds of alcohol even before factoring in alien stuff.
that awkward smile grows a bit more confident, a laugh even springing from him for the commentary, and andyr seems to be relaxing some. enjoying conversation, even. will wonders never cease? ]

You don’t have to drink it straight, you know. There are lovely things called cocktails. You mix alcohol with juice and other things that mask the alcohol’s taste. [ Dutch smiles. It feels a little bit like she’s doing something wrong by teaching someone the pro’s of drinking, but that’s a feeling she can easily shrug off. ]
Hey, with low standards you’ll never be disappointed.
