The scenario Armin paints is quite specific. Clearly he's been thinking about this a bit. Ocelot meant Armin might meet someone when he returns home, but has he met someone already? Someone on the ship?

"You sound like you've got someone in mind." He can decide, or perhaps the alcohol can decide, if he says more about that.

The part about being old gets a wry smile out of him. Jesus, does he really seem that old? Now he's got two kids on board pointing his age out to him. As if Bucky wasn't enough. "I guess if you're livin' a normal kinda life, it is what you're supposed to want. When soldiers are livin' for somethin' else, though... well, I don't think I have to explain to you how that changes the usual priorities."

By the time he was 17, Ocelot had been through and seen more than most adults, too. Calling Armin a kid might not be right, but Ocelot might do it anyway.

"Yes. No. Well, it's an unusual situation." Armin sighs wearily, looking out over the crowd. "It would be hard for someone, wouldn't it? Hearing from a total stranger that they met you before, that the two of you were together in some other lifetime? And it was me, and I'm..." Armin tries to describe it, how useless and small and un-noteworthy he is . "...Ugh. I mean I wasn't drunk at the time, at least. But it's not like I can make a good case for myself. He was nice about the whole thing. So I'm not really over my old boyfriend, and the individual aboard the ship is the same person as him, but he's not my boyfriend. He's never met me. But I shouldn't have gotten into a relationship in the first place, and I knew it wouldn't work out, so it's pretty much my fault anyway." Armin takes a long pause to finish his wine. He's not sure if it's actually making him feel better, but it shuts him up for a moment. "Actually, I almost asked if you could erase him from my memory, but I decided I didn't want you to. Because I don't think it's responsible to erase someone's memory. I have to learn from this experience."

That's a unique situation. One Ocelot doesn't hear very often. Or ever, maybe. "I guess it depends on how much that person means to you. If you can move on with your life, then do it. But if you can't... If every time you see that person it gets to you, then maybe you should do something about it."

He shrugs and refills the glasses, though no one is forcing Armin to drink it. "Who's to say you can't start over? Start fresh? Go for it again and see if it works out?"
