He won't be going near cat blanket, don't worry. Or your guns. [She's still watching the creature curiously, but its attention seems to have been caught by Niko now, and it seems as fascinated by him as she is with it. The corner of her mouth twitching up in a grin, she suddenly catches sight of the ball in the centre of the room, sitting there open and empty, and the grin turns into a frown.]
How did it fit into that little ball there?
no subject
Ah... The kid said something about the ball being something that can turn them into digital information. So you throw it and it sort of sucks them up like code. Then you throw it again and they're out.
So I guess he'll be easy to move if you go anywhere, but honestly other than how to throw it I don't know how to pick it up. Maybe you close the ball and grenade throw it again.
[He stoops down to the little "amphibian"s height, looking at once side and then the other.] I guess it is kind of cute.
how could you
[She wants to correct this. She wants to turn to Niko and say in maybe the most snobbish voice she's ever mustered, that's not how code works. But apparently it is now; this little creature did come right out of there and she can't explain it in any way that makes real sense. Instead she says, nose wrinkled:] I don't want to put him back in there. It feels a little cruel to me.
[Charmander follows Niko's gaze, twisting its head about to follow his movements. Suddenly, it chirps out its own name again and seems to actually smile at them, eyes closed and mouth open in apparent pleasure. Maybe she's just anthropomorphising it, but she could swear that's what it's doing.] He's adorable.
[She stands and jogs across the room to grab the ball, clicking the halves back together.] Now we just need to figure out how to feed him and where he sleeps and what to...do with him...
no subject
[But Tali's been strong enough to survive him and everything else she's run into, and she's so delighted by this little animal she deserves the nice thing.]
[He finally turns off the gun, letting it disappear from existence, and he stands up straight.] The kid said it was not cruel but maybe it feels better to be outside the ball anyway. ...Do we get it a dog bed?
Are you going to name it?
no subject
She walks back over to Niko and the animal, grinning up at Niko as he stands upright and momentarily sliding an arm around him, hugging him one-armed. It's a casual, fleeting motion, and as she lets go she drops back down into a crouch to Charmander's level.] I think you'd like a bed more, hmm?
[The creature probably has no idea what she's saying; she figures it's the smile in her voice it's responding to as it chatters back in turn, coming over to her and bouncing on its feet like an excited child.
Its skin, she notices as she pets it again, is rough, very dry - and intensely warm - and she's scratching its neck gently as she looks up a Niko, thoughtful.] I guess I should name him. We can't just call him...'Po-key-mon' or...'lizard' forever.
no subject
[But if this little thing sleeps with them he's going to have to figure out how not to roast and also have alone time with Tali without it staring over the edge of the bed. Then again, maybe that pokeball will be good for that.]
[Priorities. Sue him.]
How hot is it. Is it heavy?
[And Niko reaches out his hands, all squatted down so if it comes over, maybe he can try to pick it up under its arms and lift. He admits this might not be the best decision.]
[And, as a name, he weakly recommends-] Trooper? [At least he didn't recommend naming another pet "Asshole" in some distant language.]
no subject
As for heavy, she has no idea, but Niko seems about to find out as he reaches out his arms and Charmander goes straight over to him.] Watch out for his tail.
[But Niko lifts Charmander like it weighs nothing - it kicks its legs and flails its arms in a way that almost makes it seem like it's enjoying it - and Tali stands along with them, watching Charmander's tail as it bobs back and forth in the air.]
Sounds a bit military. [Although she would take it happily over 'Asshole', admittedly.] Although the first thing I thought of was 'Yaska', and that's the name of an old gunship. [So who is she to talk, really?]
Well, is he heavy?
no subject
But not heavy.
Ah... Fireball? [He's working on names here, and he shrugs at Tali. Both of them are ex-military (even if her position was mechanical). It's an adventure finding good names for an impromptu burning amphibian.]
no subject
[She's a little surprised herself at how excited she is about it. The idea of having a pet never occurred to her before, but now there's - an admittedly weird - one in front of her, she's genuinely enjoying thinking about names and a bed for it and food and exercise and where it'll go when she's in engineering.
She looks at Niko searchingly for a moment, just...making sure.] You're definitely OK with this, right? Having a pet...fire lizard in our room.
no subject
[Which is why he'd avoided pets anyway.]
Besides our room is kind of cold. It will be good for you.
[It's more like that he likes to see Tali smiling so much again. It's been a long time, and the way she was falling apart before? It feels very necessary.]
no subject
It takes her moment to realise why he brought that up - he had a pet back on Macha, she remembers that, but he gave it away. And with his worrying about hurting and breaking everything around him... Her face doesn't change, but she steps closer again and leans against him, trying to be a comforting weight against him.] He'll be fine.
Besides, he walks on two legs. You can teach him how to do high kicks. [She's laughing before she even finishes the sentence.]
no subject
[He does expect it to be tougher, just by the knowledge of what is purpose is. Like one of those fighting dogs.] We don't have to make it fight. Just you know, it means it'll be strong. [He gave her a loose hug against his side.]
no subject
Makes sense. [She lets out a long breath.] With all the trouble we get into, I'd rather know it can look out for itself.
[She looks down as the lizard - Charmander - waves its arms around and chatters away again, and smiles down at it.] So, uh... What do we do with him now? Find him some...food?
[Tali, pet keeping pro.]
no subject
They didn't give you care instructions, did they?
...I have no idea how to care for a fire lizard. Maybe the vet office has something?
[Fire-lizard food? Training treats?]
