the lucid disparity revisited
"Never be the first to arrive or the last to go, and never, ever be both."

By now, time has passed, and most of the crew have found some sort of comfortable groove with the natives of the unnamed island they crashed near. Partying, gambling and drinking, and more… Even the mysterious pool has given people who could answer its riddle insight in this confusing time. However, as the nights and days continue to progress and the parties begin to blur together, things are… odd. The hosts are still as kind as ever, offering anything and everything those at the temple-like building could ask for, but every so often, the world around them appears different. Clear, as if a fog had been lifted. Yet, it’s only a blink, and then, it’s gone, returning everyone to their regularly scheduled eternal party.

Down on the beach, the Captains are still as busy as ever working with those capable to restore function to the Moira. On the morning of the 20th, Navigator Manasseh’s vitals begin to slowly return to normal, her status on the Directory reverting to GREEN, and with it, life is brought back to the Moira. This, of course, means everyone is able to board the ship and leave, but most of the crew who traveled through the jungle and stayed at the party aren’t exactly willing to go just yet. Prior to this, a few of the crew who suddenly realized things were strange and that the people around them were acting strange - themselves included - approached Thán with this particular revelation, upon which Nathan Drake planned to bring back things from the temple to be tested for irregularities. Each sample returned to Cúrre does not alert her to anything abnormal, comprised of similar compounds—except for the water brought to her from the pool. Acting quickly, she reaches the same conclusion as a few of the other crewmembers do: that the water neutralizes the mysterious intoxication caused by everything on this unknown planet.

FROM UNDER THE VEIL
The combined efforts of the crew and Curre have resulted in an “antidote” being made from the pool water; crew members pass it around to those down on the ship and beach, then utilize caution while administering it to those at the party. The change happens slowly for most. A drink that was perfect only a little while ago is suddenly sickeningly sweet and no longer enjoyable. The food tastes wrong. The music no longer urges you to dance but instead reminds you that your feet are aching. The magic is fading, and as it does, the cracks in the facade begin to reveal themselves. The elegant city built into the rocks is faded and cracking at the edges. Nothing is as it seems, especially the hosts. Their eagerness to please now has an edge to it. They try and ply their guests with new food, drink and distractions, but they know when the game is up. Do you try and slip away when they’re distracted, or do you demand to know why they’ve done this? Do you dare to find out?

AS TIME GOES BY
Crew have begun to filter to the beach, and as the ship reboots, its systems expelling water and allowing it to float on the surface, all Moira-connected technology refreshes. MID devices, to those who check, will show that a year has passed since they crash landed on this strange planet. Those that did not join the party would not have been aware that so much time had passed as the planet seems to be under the influence of a blurring of time, probably due to the fact it is so close to the Luminous Sea. Crew would have gone through the motions and not realized that supplies were dwindling, and anyone who has themselves looked over in the Medbay will discover that they are, in fact, physically one year older. With the Moira finally functioning and with everyone on board, the ship finally begins to ascend and leave the planet behind.

The Captains are all working together to get the crew settled back on board and help those who might need some adjusting to this particular news. Since it has been such a long time, fresh supplies are badly needed, and the ship is directed towards the closest known place: the Mini Colony.

[ Reorienting the mind has been the most challenging aspect of this jaunt planetside, and after weeks at it already before their crash landing, Obi-Wan is feeling a bit thin through and through. Thankfully, his struggles have not been fruitless, and finally, after what feels like a lifetime of its own, he's once more a whole entity that fully feels the Force again.

This means, of course, that he has to relearn what it is to school his emotions. He'd gotten so used to them running rampant — they'd run amok too long, causing the Jedi Master distraction unbecoming his role. But with that vitality returned, even the heaviest burdens feel lighter on his shoulders than they have in — well, in a year, it seems.

He suspects, particularly when he seeks out Han, that it's certainly not something to brag about. It's hardly on his radar at all, for that matter, knowing as he does all that's changed in what feels like a very short time. Empathy is the way to go. Solo surely has a lot on his mind.

Standing below the Falcon, Kenobi peers up to where Han is working.
]

Repairs to be made?

[ He only asks, because his other assumption is that Han is preparing to depart, and that leaves his throat too tight to even bring it up as an option. ]

[Trying to reconcile what the chronometer says with what he remembers-- hazy and distorted as it is-- is nothing but a headache waiting to happen, a reminder of just how badly things have gone. Han has already rested, kind of-- snatched a few minutes of deep and troubled sleep in the berth of his freighter while running some scans-- and now it's back to business. He's not inclined to wallow, at least, not without keeping his hands busy.

When Obi-Wan calls out to him, he pauses in his work, walks over to the edge. Uneven ground, but it's familiar.]

I want to make sure the cannons are working.

[ Obi-Wan looks up, assessing what he can of Han's demeanor without delving too deeply into the Force. Now that he can see so much more clearly, the bright spot that's missing from Leia's presence (and the dark spot from Kylo's) leaves him deeply concerned, as well as deeply saddened.

He nods and his attention turns to seek out those weapons with his own eyes. There hasn't been much time to explore this vessel, not even with all the time he's known Han now.
]

Does that mean you haven't taken the time necessary to eat?

[Maybe it ought to be a relief, that Kylo Ren is gone. Losing Leia would crush him no matter what, but the presence of his son has been unnerving at best, outright dangerous more often; it should be some balance, but instead he's angry about that, too. Not because he thought there was any hope of change, just--

Just, his family got a hell of a lot bigger out of nowhere, and now it's a hell of a lot smaller just as suddenly, and he doesn't like it.]

Eating... What else have I been doing all year?

[He sounds a bit disgusted.]

[ Obi-Wan looks uncertain. Having stayed behind on the beach, he only has recountings of the time others spent partying throughout the year. Food would certainly be involved, but the Jedi can only imagine nefarious things when he thinks about how they've all lost so much time. ]

Well, that's not something that... you stop doing. Unless you're planning to hibernate, which I sincerely suggest you avoid.

[ I mean, if he's this grumpy now, imagine after waking up from a nap like that. ]

Could you use some assistance, then? I'm finding myself restless and I could use something to put my mind to.

[The joke, if it is a joke, gets him to narrow his eyes irritably. Of course Obi-Wan probably hasn't a clue that Han has done just that-- is doing just that, in fact, back home, and it's only the Moira's fine medical staff that kept him from finding just how grumpy he can get.

But that's hardly a conversation he wants to have. He doesn't really want to have any conversation, but here they are.

After a moment, somewhat less than certain, he nods.]

You know anything about weapons systems?

Enough to avoid doing any further damage.

[ And then, thoughtfully, he tips his head and shrugs a little. Mechanics aren't outside his scope, he just doesn't prefer to drown himself in them like some people. Like many people he knows personally. ]

It really depends on what shape the systems are in. What sort of challenges are we looking to overcome? I'll see what I can do about it.

It's been sitting a year, who knows?

[Shrugging, he steps gingerly to the edge of the ship and lets himself down, using a crate as a stepping stone. Obi-Wan isn't going to like this bit, he thinks. The smart thing might not be to mention it, but somehow he gets the sense things would only be worse in the end if he didn't declare his intentions.]

I figure if we can get the laser cannons into shape, I can make sure no one ever gets stuck back there again.

[personal profile] jedimindtrick 2016-10-17 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
[ By way of explanations, Obi-Wan can't say he's surprised. If ever there's a time where someone might want a little revenge, now seems to be it. The flames are easily fanned, and he is in no place to lecture Han Solo about that... but he probably will, anyway.

Following the other man's direction, he begins seeking out the appropriate panel release.
]

You're thinking of eliminating the outpost altogether?

[personal profile] straightouttacarbonite 2016-10-19 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Destroying the city or their hosts isn't going to accomplish much, in the long run. Maybe it means no one else will get trapped. Probably, it just means trouble, but he can't shake the idea anyway.

It's not going to bring Leia back, or his children. Maybe they're better off at home.]

I dunno.

[Not even a good lie. He's restless. He has to do something.]

[personal profile] jedimindtrick 2016-10-23 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He's sympathetic. In his own way, Obi-Wan has struggled with the same anger, even to the degree that revenge has crossed his mind. More than once, he'd taken up arms in an act of desperation, and as Han struggles with the same, Kenobi feels his chest grow tight with a shared anguish. ]

I would... request you don't act too rashly. If only for your own sake, Han. It's very easy to lose yourself to something like that, particularly when you feel as if there's nothing left to lose...

[ Maybe not what Solo wants to hear, but it's something Kenobi knows is an important reminder easily forgotten. ]
straightouttacarbonite: (042)

[personal profile] straightouttacarbonite 2016-10-27 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[What can he say? There isn't much left to lose, after all.]

But what are we supposed to do? Just... leave this going on?

[Let other people be left to wither away at the endless party?]

[personal profile] jedimindtrick 2016-11-01 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
No, no. Of course not.

[ He shakes his head and rubs at his chin, uncertain of how to ease his friend's upset, or whether he even should. Some find this type of mourning necessary to move ahead with their own lives. ]

I only mean to suggest that I care for you, and I wouldn't like to see you driving yourself to extremes. It's a trait very common to all of us — one we struggle with, particularly during trying times.

[personal profile] straightouttacarbonite 2016-11-01 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Frustrated, all he can do is scrub at his face with his palm. What else can he do? Ugh.

He's angry. It's not so easy just to stop being angry.]

Trying times are all this place has for us.

It certainly feels that way, yes... One must imagine that may never change. For now, we have but little control; even much of that is generous assumption.

[ And that's looking on the bright side. Obi-Wan, of course, doesn't quite know how to feel, only that there are times when life aboard the Moira is less forgiving than the war he's still fighting — about to lose — back home.

Brushing at some dirt and dust — a years worth of grime, practically imaginary in this closed system — Kenobi turns his focus elsewhere, although he hasn't yet walked away from the conversation. He remains just shy of pensive.
]

I've considered leaving. With a ship — any ship — the odds would be more in my favor at least, but I worry over the consequences of such actions. What would I miss? What would miss me? But more specifically, I worry.

[ A stunted laugh escapes him and he smirks at the Falcon while he accomplishes literally nothing of value in repairs. ] I've always worried — that isn't the shocking part — but I openly worry, and I express— [ emotions, he thinks, but that's not what he's willing to say. ] I express myself.

It's something I've learned. Or learned to unlearn, if I'm to be truly accurate. Because of Leia and Luke. Because of you and Anakin and Satine and a great many others you know well enough.

[ A glance in Solo's direction and he's far less somber for just a moment. ]

And I think I would be stupid to waste that. As tempted as I've been to take off on a mission of my own, it's easy to visualize the greater impact of seeing this through and returning home with all that I've learned.

So, that's it. [ A firm nod. ] Me expressing myself.

[That is, possibly, the most he's heard Obi-Wan say in one go since they've been here. It's funny, considering how poorly they got along the first time around-- or the last time, for Kenobi-- to see him so open and caring. Not unprecedented, though. After all, no matter what, he'd obviously cared for Luke, then.

He can't help but sigh. All that-- it's just more than he can muster, himself. Expressing himself doesn't come terribly naturally to Han, either. ]

I'd take the Falcon, but where would I go?

[It's been his complaint all along. Now he wonders, if he'd taken Leia and Luke, would they at least all be together, now?]

Someone'll come after us, if I do it. I know.

[ So he can't. After the conflict with the Caducans-- he knows better, yeah, fine. But the thought was comforting, for a little while. ]
