the lucid disparity revisited
"Never be the first to arrive or the last to go, and never, ever be both."

By now, time has passed, and most of the crew have found some sort of comfortable groove with the natives of the unnamed island they crashed near. Partying, gambling and drinking, and more… Even the mysterious pool has given people who could answer its riddle insight in this confusing time. However, as the nights and days continue to progress and the parties begin to blur together, things are… odd. The hosts are still as kind as ever, offering anything and everything those at the temple-like building could ask for, but every so often, the world around them appears different. Clear, as if a fog had been lifted. Yet, it’s only a blink, and then, it’s gone, returning everyone to their regularly scheduled eternal party.

Down on the beach, the Captains are still as busy as ever working with those capable to restore function to the Moira. On the morning of the 20th, Navigator Manasseh’s vitals begin to slowly return to normal, her status on the Directory reverting to GREEN, and with it, life is brought back to the Moira. This, of course, means everyone is able to board the ship and leave, but most of the crew who traveled through the jungle and stayed at the party aren’t exactly willing to go just yet. Prior to this, a few of the crew who suddenly realized things were strange and that the people around them were acting strange - themselves included - approached Thán with this particular revelation, upon which Nathan Drake planned to bring back things from the temple to be tested for irregularities. Each sample returned to Cúrre does not alert her to anything abnormal, comprised of similar compounds—except for the water brought to her from the pool. Acting quickly, she reaches the same conclusion as a few of the other crewmembers do: that the water neutralizes the mysterious intoxication caused by everything on this unknown planet.

FROM UNDER THE VEIL
The combined efforts of the crew and Curre have resulted in an “antidote” being made from the pool water; crew members pass it around to those down on the ship and beach, then utilize caution while administering it to those at the party. The change happens slowly for most. A drink that was perfect only a little while ago is suddenly sickeningly sweet and no longer enjoyable. The food tastes wrong. The music no longer urges you to dance but instead reminds you that your feet are aching. The magic is fading, and as it does, the cracks in the facade begin to reveal themselves. The elegant city built into the rocks is faded and cracking at the edges. Nothing is as it seems, especially the hosts. Their eagerness to please now has an edge to it. They try and ply their guests with new food, drink and distractions, but they know when the game is up. Do you try and slip away when they’re distracted, or do you demand to know why they’ve done this? Do you dare to find out?

AS TIME GOES BY
Crew have begun to filter to the beach, and as the ship reboots, its systems expelling water and allowing it to float on the surface, all Moira-connected technology refreshes. MID devices, to those who check, will show that a year has passed since they crash landed on this strange planet. Those that did not join the party would not have been aware that so much time had passed as the planet seems to be under the influence of a blurring of time, probably due to the fact it is so close to the Luminous Sea. Crew would have gone through the motions and not realized that supplies were dwindling, and anyone who has themselves looked over in the Medbay will discover that they are, in fact, physically one year older. With the Moira finally functioning and with everyone on board, the ship finally begins to ascend and leave the planet behind.

The Captains are all working together to get the crew settled back on board and help those who might need some adjusting to this particular news. Since it has been such a long time, fresh supplies are badly needed, and the ship is directed towards the closest known place: the Mini Colony.

I could write out a list if you want. Because that really glosses over the "very tired" and "don't want to ride in a transportation pod" and "unsure about getting back on something that crashed".

[Pretends to write down a list on her hand. Serious business and all.]
psychadrellic: (i'll never unsee that)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-09-24 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hawke, you're such a brat!!]

The transportation pods and the Moira are not likely to cause nausea now that they're functioning properly. And as for your exhaustion...

[Thane can take care of that, by scooping her up into his arms without so much as a by-your-leave. Because he suspects if he asks whether she would like him to, she'll say no. But if he doesn't give her a choice, she'll just have to accept it. Then they can both get back to the ship and move on with their lives.

...As short as his is likely to be, now, thank you, humidity hell planet.

It's a good thing she doesn't weigh a whole lot. And that it's not a long walk to the ship. He really shouldn't be doing this, but. Eh. He'll live even if he has to force himself to, and she obviously needs the help.

Anyway, all that aside, he's got her in his arms and has straightened up and begun walking probably before she can even protest. What a suave asshole.]

[This is the most offensive thing that has ever happened to Marian Hawke in her life.

So what she was lying on the ground asleep! She was tired! And as for the complaining, considering everything that has happened she thinks that she's entitled to at least a little complaining and a decent amount of showboating about it.

For a few moments after he picks her up she just sputters and tries to remember what limbs to properly flail to escape his grip but not cause any injury. But her entire body seems to be weighed down by complete and utter indignation at this rather cruel turn of events.]

I don't even have words for how much you're victimizing me right now at this very moment. I don't think I deserve it. I thought we were friends. Or at least chummy acquaintances.
psychadrellic: (that's what you think)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-09-25 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
[It's a really good thing she's not flailing, because he's not at 100% right now (heck, he's not even at 25% right now), and if she were then he'd likely drop her, which is the opposite of what he wants to do.]

We are friends, Hawke. Or am I misinterpreting the feelings behind that kiss the other night?

[Boy, he'd sure heard about the effects oral contact with drell could have on human beings, but that had been his very first encounter with the phenomena. Babysitting her through the resulting hallucinations had been An Experience.]
otiosity: (face meet palm)

[personal profile] otiosity 2016-09-25 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Not at all. The kiss was completely genuine. You're a very handsome... you. But I don't generally let myself be picked up and man handled by anyone. No matter how attractive. It sort of undercuts the image I'm going for.

[You're totally ruining her reputation here! Plus she doesn't remember most of the hallucinations except swearing that she saw Meredith watching her out of the bushes and then proceeded to throw up on said bush and waking up half asleep on a bench.]
psychadrellic: (don't lick the lizard)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-09-25 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aw, she called him "handsome."]

Hm. In that case, please allow me to apologize for any damage I may be causing to your reputation. However, I am confident that once we return to the Moira you'll be able to set it to rights again in short order.

[How is it possible for one small woman to vomit so much in such a short amount of time? Does she do this all the time, or just during shipwrecks and parties? Is she okay? Is she going to be okay? Who can say?

Also, it's a good thing they're nearly there. The only thing keeping him from stumbling and huffing for breath at this point are his decades of intense physical discipline. Thank u, Hanar Assassin School.]
otiosity: (i dont know how i feel about that)

[personal profile] otiosity 2016-09-25 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not that easy. It's carefully cultivated! I'm going to have to go summon a demon and then expertly kill it. I've fallen that far.

[SUCH A DRAMA QUEEN.

And also Hawke is a weak stomached invidual who is in serious denial of that character flaw. So her strategy is just to drink, get sick, and then pretend like she didn't just get sick and continue drinking. It's a very calculated strategy my friend.]

Or we could switch and I could carry you.

[She can't carry him.]

psychadrellic: (that's enough idiocy for one day)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-09-27 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
[A demon, huh?]

Is that right? I must admit, I had not realized your reputation was so dangerous.

[His words could be taken as teasing, but his tone is perfectly serious. He really did have no idea.

And there's maybe less than a hundred feet left to trudge...the blissful end to this horrible nightmare is in sight...!]

I would be quite impressed if you could, to be honest. I'm quite a bit heavier than a human man whose height and build is similar to mine.

[Or, to put it another way: No, he's not putting you down yet, Hawke.]
otiosity: (uhhh have you thought about the weather?)

[personal profile] otiosity 2016-09-27 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Extremely dangerous. I'm known for dangerous jobs and being a charming sort of scoundrel.

[But at that comment she sizes him up a little bit.]

Well, that just makes you sound even more handsome. Are you packing extra organs in there?
psychadrellic: (that's what you think)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-09-28 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Charming scoundrel, I can see. You'll have to let me know when you summon this demon; I'd be interested to witness the extreme danger.

[Oh Hawke, you flatterer.

That gets him to smile again, though.]

No; it's merely a matter of higher muscle density.
otiosity: (currently offering sarcasm and good hair)

[personal profile] otiosity 2016-09-28 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no. I'm not summoning any demons. I fight said demon summoner. So we might have to get some hired help for this "save my reputation' plan.

[Aww Thane, you're cute when you smile.]

Well. That does sound rather dashing as well. Perhaps I'm starting to see the charm of this "swoon and get carried by a big strong person" thing.
psychadrellic: calibrations (can it wait i'm in the middle of some)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-09-28 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
This is starting to sound like a lot of work. Do you know anyone among the crew capable of summoning demons?

[Oh, Hawke.]

Oh? I thought you were averse to swooning.

[Is he teasing? Is he being serious? Who can say?]
otiosity: (just a little showboating)

[personal profile] otiosity 2016-09-28 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Dunno. We may have to do a personal posting.

[She likes that it's hard to tell if he's serious or not. It makes the game more of a challenge.]

Completely adverse. But as they say, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
psychadrellic: (so that's what that looks like)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-09-28 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Over the network? That sounds like a good solution.

[Good job problem-solving, Hawke!]

Is that what they say? I see. In that case, I'll refrain from becoming concerned unless you insist on donning a corset.

[Okay, he's definitely teasing a little bit, there. Just a little bit.]
otiosity: (uuugghhhh)

[personal profile] otiosity 2016-09-28 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Maker, yes.

If I start talking about corsets and worrying about the proportions of my waist and bosom please come over and knock me on the head. Multiple times with your muscly alien arms.
psychadrellic: (wow this is boring)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-09-30 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully it won't come to that.

[They're nearly to the shuttle, now, thank goodness. Maintaining his usual appearance of collected, casual calm is getting tougher and tougher. The cool ocean air's brief respite has come and gone and he's right back to where he'd been upon leaving the jungle. Worse, actually, since he insisted on adding to the challenge of walking on the beach by carrying Hawke in his arms. The only reason he's not gasping for air is because he's far too disciplined to allow himself to do so, but it's still a near thing.]

And see, we're practically there. That wasn't such a terrible distance to cross after all, was it?
otiosity: (face forward and straight ahead)

[personal profile] otiosity 2016-09-30 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I mean.

Let's be honest. I didn't really do anything.

[She grips his neck a little tighter because the idea of walking kind of makes her wan to barf. But if she knew what effort he was exerting, she'd probably barf at the guilt. So it's a barf loose situation either way.]
psychadrellic: calibrations (can it wait i'm in the middle of some)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-09-30 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps. However, your company is appreciated.

[It's really nice to be able to focus on something besides how difficult it is to breathe.

And...Oh...he was actually getting ready to set her on her feet, since they're nearly there, but she's hanging on tighter, so...never mind. He'll continue to carry her the rest of the way, aaaaall the way up to the little embarking area and then aaaaall the way up the little shuttle steps and into the cabin. There's still a pair of unclaimed seats side by side, so he claims them by standing in front of them and gently setting her on her feet there.]
otiosity: (i dont know how i feel about that)

[personal profile] otiosity 2016-09-30 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[She sways a little and then finds her balance. The shuttle gets a deep glare from her bright blue eyes before she turns back to Thane.]

Well, that just happened. First time for everything. I think we really bonded. Learned a lot about each other.

[She grips his shoulder.]

Let's keep it our secret.
psychadrellic: (i need a strong drink)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-10-01 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Naturally, he stands nice and firm until she gets her balance back. He even keeps one hand on her shoulder in aid of it.]

Of course, if you wish it.

[Just between the two of them, and whoever else is currently on this shuttle and witnessed him carry her into it.]

And, if you wish to return to sleep, the seats here are probably more comfortable than the sand on the beach.
otiosity: (i dont know how i feel about that)

[personal profile] otiosity 2016-10-02 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Debatable. I find that solid ground is very comfortable in the sense that it's unlikely to come crashing out of the sky.

[She's going to wrinkle her nose at the seat and root around beneath it.]

I'd install these things with buckets. Note to Stark. Buckets everywhere.
psychadrellic: (that's enough idiocy for one day)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-10-02 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
...If you're looking for a receptacle for your vomit, there should be a small plastic bag designed for that eventuality in the seat pocket.

[He points helpfully to one of the seat pockets in quiet emphasis.]

They're more sanitary than buckets. They can be disposed of, without having to be cleaned.
otiosity: (just a little showboating)

[personal profile] otiosity 2016-10-02 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Back home all we have are buckets. [A little huff.] Maker, have you ever heard of discretion? It's not exactly something that everyone needs to know.

[SHE'S JUST A LITTLE SELF CONSCIOUS OKAY. Getting motion-sick is decidedly not cool. But she's not really mad at him or anything, it's just for show and to feel better about her sorry self. She drops into the chair and pokes at the seat pocket. Yep puke receptacle indeed.]
psychadrellic: (is it too early to start drinking)

[personal profile] psychadrellic 2016-10-03 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
My apologies. I shall attempt to remember that in the future.

[Oh, good, she's sitting down, that means Thane can sit down too. So he does...Maybe a little less gracefully than he normally might, but it's either destroy the illusion of grace or start gasping for air, so moving like a mere mortal it is, for the time being.

The climate control on the shuttle is blissfully dry compared with the swampy hell they just left...maybe it'll be good enough to let him actually catch his breath, now that he's no longer carrying a sassy damsel in distress to her doom.]
otiosity: (if you look away its easier to lie)

[personal profile] otiosity 2016-10-03 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hawke is giving everything in the room a serious sideeye! It's all out to get her. Why not just magic them up there? Would be easier? Maybe she could climb? No, too high up. Fine, she'll just grab the sick bag and glare at until it feels bad about existing. Take that!

...Okay, this is dumb so she's just going sigh and slump against the seats and wonder if she can actually manage to sleep and miss the whole thing. Her eyes move over the Moira above.]

I wonder what's changed up there.
