the lucid disparity revisited
"Never be the first to arrive or the last to go, and never, ever be both."

By now, time has passed, and most of the crew have found some sort of comfortable groove with the natives of the unnamed island they crashed near. Partying, gambling and drinking, and more… Even the mysterious pool has given people who could answer its riddle insight in this confusing time. However, as the nights and days continue to progress and the parties begin to blur together, things are… odd. The hosts are still as kind as ever, offering anything and everything those at the temple-like building could ask for, but every so often, the world around them appears different. Clear, as if a fog had been lifted. Yet, it’s only a blink, and then, it’s gone, returning everyone to their regularly scheduled eternal party.

Down on the beach, the Captains are still as busy as ever working with those capable to restore function to the Moira. On the morning of the 20th, Navigator Manasseh’s vitals begin to slowly return to normal, her status on the Directory reverting to GREEN, and with it, life is brought back to the Moira. This, of course, means everyone is able to board the ship and leave, but most of the crew who traveled through the jungle and stayed at the party aren’t exactly willing to go just yet. Prior to this, a few of the crew who suddenly realized things were strange and that the people around them were acting strange - themselves included - approached Thán with this particular revelation, upon which Nathan Drake planned to bring back things from the temple to be tested for irregularities. Each sample returned to Cúrre does not alert her to anything abnormal, comprised of similar compounds—except for the water brought to her from the pool. Acting quickly, she reaches the same conclusion as a few of the other crewmembers do: that the water neutralizes the mysterious intoxication caused by everything on this unknown planet.

FROM UNDER THE VEIL
The combined efforts of the crew and Curre have resulted in an “antidote” being made from the pool water; crew members pass it around to those down on the ship and beach, then utilize caution while administering it to those at the party. The change happens slowly for most. A drink that was perfect only a little while ago is suddenly sickeningly sweet and no longer enjoyable. The food tastes wrong. The music no longer urges you to dance but instead reminds you that your feet are aching. The magic is fading, and as it does, the cracks in the facade begin to reveal themselves. The elegant city built into the rocks is faded and cracking at the edges. Nothing is as it seems, especially the hosts. Their eagerness to please now has an edge to it. They try and ply their guests with new food, drink and distractions, but they know when the game is up. Do you try and slip away when they’re distracted, or do you demand to know why they’ve done this? Do you dare to find out?

AS TIME GOES BY
Crew have begun to filter to the beach, and as the ship reboots, its systems expelling water and allowing it to float on the surface, all Moira-connected technology refreshes. MID devices, to those who check, will show that a year has passed since they crash landed on this strange planet. Those that did not join the party would not have been aware that so much time had passed as the planet seems to be under the influence of a blurring of time, probably due to the fact it is so close to the Luminous Sea. Crew would have gone through the motions and not realized that supplies were dwindling, and anyone who has themselves looked over in the Medbay will discover that they are, in fact, physically one year older. With the Moira finally functioning and with everyone on board, the ship finally begins to ascend and leave the planet behind.

The Captains are all working together to get the crew settled back on board and help those who might need some adjusting to this particular news. Since it has been such a long time, fresh supplies are badly needed, and the ship is directed towards the closest known place: the Mini Colony.

[Ratchet flinches as though Riptide raised a hand to strike him before composing his face, flat and calm and solid as he half-reaches out with one long claw, hesitates, then lets it fall back to his side.]

Of course. [His voice sounds almost numb as he turns away from Riptide and reaches down to very gingerly lift Ravage's hindquarters out of the box, taking care with his claws as he turns it over, his frown deepening steadily.] ...this was deliberate. Someone--a large someone--pulled him--

[Ratchet cuts himself off abruptly, looking back at Riptide.]

You don't... have to stay. I'll take care of this, if you'd rather go. I wouldn't blame you.
knaval: (to step off that set)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-09-23 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[riptide watches ratchet's hands-- claws with wide optics. the lights slowly shrink down into pin pricks as the gears in riptide's head work. there's only so many large people that are an immediate danger to the crew of the lost light, not to mention ratchet telling him to leave.]

He stayed with Megatron, didn't he.
asafepairofhands: (sad)

[personal profile] asafepairofhands 2016-09-23 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Riptide, I don't know. I don't remember being there, I'm sorry."

He looks down at the small, broken half-body between his claws, his mouth set.

"...I suspect so, however."
knaval: (now just won't shine)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-09-23 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[biting his lower lip, riptide utterly fails to stop the light strands from welling up and pouring down his face.]

It-- it's just always going to come back to that, isn't it?

[he lets his shoulders hunch over.]

I guess this is technically a crime scene. Wait for Magnus.
asafepairofhands: (still)

[personal profile] asafepairofhands 2016-09-23 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I know exactly who did this.

[Ratchet's voice is chilled and steady, but he stops, just holding the tiny body carefully, his expression patient.]

We can wait, though. I'm glad you called him.
knaval: (cause who said sailing is fine?)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-09-24 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[riptide draws his knees up to his chest, wrapping his arms around his head.]

Shut up.

[WHAT A NICE SCENE FOR MAGNUS TO HAPPEN UPON]
onlytwoexpressions: (Now listen here)

[personal profile] onlytwoexpressions 2016-09-25 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[The lack of a proper response has Magnus entering the cargo bay in a flourish, weapons primed and ready.]

Riptide! What the hell is going on?! Are you alright?!
asafepairofhands: (wait)

[personal profile] asafepairofhands 2016-09-26 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
He's fine. ...well, he's not injured. But he received some mail, courtesy of the Ingress.

[Ratchet's expression is still as stone as he turns to Magnus, cupping the back end of Ravage's small body between his newly attached claws.]

Magnus, was--how was Ravage, the last time you saw him? ...was he with you, when the D.J.D. struck?
onlytwoexpressions: (all this worry is giving me wrinkles)

[personal profile] onlytwoexpressions 2016-09-26 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Magnus stares incredulously. He had so many questions but...perhaps it was best if he answered first.]

He...yes, he was with us. He was with Megatron. We hadn't left the Necrobot's fortress yet...so...

But...this is...

[He shakes his head.]

The Ingress sent it? I thought it was disabled.
knaval: (ruining the play)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-09-26 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Not even the first body part I've had addressed to me.

[said cooly like he's over trailcutter's head (he's not)]

I want... to come with you. When you tell them. This is partly on me.
asafepairofhands: (sad)

[personal profile] asafepairofhands 2016-09-26 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently not. But this...

[He stops, looking down for a moment, his optics flickering before they meet Magnus' again.]

The twist and stress of the plating are consistent with him being pulled apart bodily. The size and shape of the finger indentations and the slight paint transfer I could find would indicate that it was Tarn. I--

[His optics flick to Riptide, his mouth thinning.]

I don't know if that's a good idea. But if I was there, then--then I couldn't save him. ...I'll tell Soundwave, if there aren't any objections.
onlytwoexpressions: (Have a lecture)

[personal profile] onlytwoexpressions 2016-09-27 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Magnus scans the back half of the corpse. He can't refute Ratchet's findings. It's all true, laid bare. And this fits Tarn's M.O. to the letter.]

[His optics darken as he considers the repercussions of this. Soundwave...Soundwave would not take it well. Nor would Megatron. He can't speak for the rest of the Lost Light crew but...this had the potential to boil over into yet another incident. Riptide's safety as well as the safety of everyone aboard was his highest priority.]

Before that, I think this is something that needs to be brought to Megatron's attention. The fact of the matter is, while Soundwave has been largely cooperative, this could disrupt his amicable nature towards us. This could spill over into something much bigger and much worse.

If anyone has a chance of potentially talking Soundwave down, it's Megatron.

Secondly, Riptide. I understand your intent, and its admirable, but I'm not throwing you under the bus here. We have no proof that this was related to the mutiny, and even if it was...well, there's precedent that you cannot physically be tried for this or any other crime. I've been doing research on it.

However, the fact remains that...once this comes to light, you may be in danger. As such, I would like to offer to put you into protective custody.

My custody.
knaval: (that glides by)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-09-27 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You're hardly throwing me under the bus if I'm choosing to do it myself.

[riptide crosses his arms, huffing.]

It was addressed to me, anyway. Probably for a fraggin' reason like the stupid head was.
onlytwoexpressions: (It says here you're completely wrong)

[personal profile] onlytwoexpressions 2016-09-28 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Then I am keeping you from throwing yourself under the bus. You've been through enough and I'm not going to let you bear the weight of this on your shoulders.

[To accentuate his point, he jabs a finger into Riptide's chest plate.]

You take on too much alone, Riptide. It's not good for you. And I'm sure Ratchet will agree with me when I say that your health and well-being are just as important as anyone else's.

Physical and emotional.
asafepairofhands: (quiet)

[personal profile] asafepairofhands 2016-09-28 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

[Ratchet watches Magnus and Riptide for a moment, his face softening just slightly before he lifts an arm and presses his wrist carefully to the bridge of his nose in lieu of pinching it with fingers he no longer has.]

Look--Riptide, if you want to go along, all right. I suggest you both go and tell Megatron. I don't think he's going to attack anybody no matter how upset he is and Magnus, he'll take the news better hearing it from you. I... I'll break the news to Soundwave. It's far from the first time I've had to deliver this sort of news and I doubt it'll be the last, so--I'll handle it. I think he'll prefer not to be ganged up on, anyway.

[He looks up again, tired but steady.]

That acceptable to everyone? We probably shouldn't drag this out any longer than we have to.
knaval: (but i don't want to look)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-09-28 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
[riptide's expression crimps as he watches ratchet talk, clearly not pleased about it.]

Fine, yes. That sounds less suicidal.

[not that he particularly wanted to be shot in the face by megatron, or whatever, but riptide knows a bad idea when it's pitched. especially when he's the one pitching it.]

I'll go with Magnus if he'll let me. You just... [he makes a shooing motion with his hand at ratchet.] Do... that. Okay.
onlytwoexpressions: (all this worry is giving me wrinkles)

[personal profile] onlytwoexpressions 2016-09-29 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm...I agree. I think this is our best course of action.

However, I do have one question.

[His gaze falls to the mangled half of a corpse.]

What do you propose we do with...that.

Him.

Once Megatron and Soundwave have paid their respects...I propose we find someway to intern the remains. I don't feel right disposing of them.
asafepairofhands: (sad)

[personal profile] asafepairofhands 2016-09-29 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ratchet hefts it and tucks it carefully back into the box, his expression unreadable.]

I think that will probably be up to Soundwave. But yes, I agree.
knaval: (sit down)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-09-29 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[riptide watches the two discuss ravage's remains blankly, wondering why the alliteration sounds weird.

...their voices sound weird. riptide says nothing, just watches the two with an odd expression and wondering if any of this is even real.]
onlytwoexpressions: (Well you see...)

[personal profile] onlytwoexpressions 2016-10-01 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Riptide, I'm going to contact Megatron.

Will you stay here and watch over the remains until I return?
