It's been a lot to handle, despite how much time may have passed it feels like they've hopped from one extreme to the next within hours. He's glad for the chance to leave.
Still, he has to get out of the layers of too hot denim first. He can't understand how he didn't notice it before.
He wanders out of one of the buildings after changing, now in a more comforting set of jeans and t-shirt, intent to zip back to the ship and stay there until someone called him to ferry people around. It's only by luck that he looks up as he starts to move, that he sees the falling red and connects it to something familiar. Peter's heart stops.
He's at the foot of the building in an instance, debating on whether to run up the side or catch her here. Would it hurt her to be tackled mid air? Would it hurt worse to be caught so close to the ground? He wishes he'd paid more attention to Sans's science lectures in class, taken Alice up on actually learning something for a change. His mind has went blank and he stands there with his arms out.
Waiting.]
Jean? Jean!

Fortune favors the brave and all that, right?
She's about to head out over the jungle but then hears something. Someone screaming.... Her name? Looking down, she can make out the silver. Peter. She calls back without thinking, feeling his fear and panic. ]
Peter?
[ She starts to lower herself just enough to stop above him, still in the air. ]
What? What is it?
no subject
Another one.
It's like seeing what Wanda or Billy could do all over again. Only this time he wasn't eased into it, no helpful sister prodding tidbits into his mind until he understood and no nephew asking permission to show off. It's more like seeing that tape from River, something so sudden and heart wrenching he feels like he needs to sit down.
He does that now, plopping into the ground and trying to make his heart stop racing.]
You were falling! [The panicky tone hasn't left his voice.] I thought you were- Christ, Jean. I thought you were going to end up all over the ground.
no subject
No, I just... I couldn't stay there any longer and I wanted to get back to the beach without going back through the jungle.
[ Her hands fiddle with each other, not sure what to do with them. She shrugs some. ]
It seemed like a good idea at the time...

[It's taking him a moment to get his head around it. Waking up from the party had been stressful enough. Now he feels like he wants to just sleep until someone can explain where he life went so weird.]
You scared me that's all. Don't mind me, go get your beach on. I'm just going to quietly die of a heart attack here.
no subject
I'm sorry, Peter. I didn't know you were down here...
[ She finally sets herself down on the ground and kneels down next to Peter, sitting back on her legs as she puts a hand on his shoulder and squeezes gently. ]
I didn't mean to scare you.
no subject
[He'd only been there for a second before he'd spoken, he couldn't blame her for not noticing.
He shrugs under her grasp.]
It's not a big deal. [He smiles thinly, changes the subject.] Flying, huh? Did you win the genetic lottery or what?
no subject
[ She softly admonishes him before reaching up to tap his temple and then her own. She an sense his emotions, after all.
But then she's shaking her head, ]
It's not as great as all that. But it is coming in handy more and more.
no subject
[It's like trying to argue with Wanda, completely useless and he's lost before he can begin.]
Not all that great? Come on, that was pretty awesome and you know it. How many people can say they can fly? You've got cool powers Jean.
no subject
When even other mutants look at you like you're a freak, it's hard to think of your powers as being "cool".
no subject
[He tugs at his hair like that makes his point.]
no subject
I can also sense what people are feeling, move whole buildings and burn walls in my sleep.
[ And even destroy another being on a molecular level. Maybe they should be afraid of me. ]
You having silver hair just makes you... unique.
no subject
[He shrugs. River's not so far off on the feelings thing, he's used to her telling what he's going through and he knows it's not just because he's an open book. His sister here was the same way. Billy had told him of powers that could alter reality itself, if the boy got the desire to do it. It was all part of who they were, and after the initial shock, Peter had gotten over it.
He didn't see why people couldn't just do the same for Jean.]
Sure it does. I don't hate it, you know. Or my powers. Actually I think it's the coolest thing about me. But you could say the same about your's. You have powers, you're unique. That's not freaky.
no subject
Maybe some day I'll see it the same way.
[ Until then...
She nudges one of his feet with her own. ]
C'mon. On your feet. You're way too young to have a heart attack, anyway.
no subject
Lucky for you that you're stuck with me for the foreseeable future. I'm pretty good at wearing people down into seeing my side of things.
[He stands, stretching and popping his joints obnoxiously.]
Says who? See the grays? I'm totally an old man.
no subject
Yeah. I'd agree with that.
[ Just barely managing not to smile at that. ]
Only when you slow down, will I believe that you're an old man.
[ There. Take that. ]
no subject
[He laughs at that, shaking his head.]
You got me. That's never going to happen. Not unless these powers wear off. Or if someone breaks my knee caps.
no subject
Nah.
[ And she'll just ignore that mention of knee caps breaking. Yep. Let's not touch that. ]
