[It's something his mind falls back on too often, but Kaz has had some very bad experiences with things that look human but move in a way very abnormally. The crawling thing is new. But otherwise? Still more off-putting than anything else he's run into so far.]
[That shoulder capped with a prosthetic aches, remember the rest of an arm that should be there. Lucky he saw past his wounded pride and agreed to something artificial a while back. If he hadn't, he would be able to pry this thing off of him as he's bowled over down the hall by one. No mistaking that wonderful thump of back hitting floor.]
[Hissing in panicked Japanese, Kaz ends up scrambling backwards, managing to get his baton out (a gift from Rinzler with a very convenient laser knife at the end, god bless the murdercat) and slicing off one of the Descendent's hands.]
[Even when he shoves it off with his foot it manages to rake at his fake calf feverishly.]

You all right? Hurt?
no subject
[He stands up and goes over to join Nate.] How many different things have you run into yet? [God help him he doesn't want to run into a Skull. Now is not the time for Metallic Archaea.]
no subject
[He takes the time to reload, even though he's not out of bullets yet. Better to have as many as possible ready to go.]
Been killing as any as possible, but I'm not sure it's even making a dent. I'm trying to herd people to safety, but where the hell is safe?
no subject
[The damage has been done, but they at least learned from it in an effort to circumvent the problem. He just wishes they could have stopped it before it got bad.]
Just gotta find the clearest path from point A to point B.
no subject
[Fucking monsters. Where the hell were they even coming from?]
no subject
I don't know about the library yet but it's worth a look.
[He shifts the baton back to dagger sized for now.] Do you know what any of these are?
no subject
Some of 'em, yeah. The slimy rage zombies are...pretty much what I just described. Headshots take 'em out. The giant purple guys are tough as hell but they will go down eventually. The giant spiders hate light and shotgun rounds.
All the other hordes of monsters? I have no fucking idea.
no subject
[Doesn't mean it's not a loss, though. He thinks back to Lara Croft and how heart-broken she would have been.]
Alright. Let's hunt down some "safe" places then. [Safe, he says as if he knows that finding them may be extremely unsafe.]
no subject
[He snorts. They clearly have the same idea about how likely those are to even exist.]
Fine by me. I'm ready to put some of these bullets in those things' heads.
no subject
[Which is why he's using some sci-fi energy blade. But no complaints. It works well and he's needed the excuse to drag it out. He extends the handle on it so it has more reach as he heads down the corridor. And slowing down as he hears too fast pattering skittering across flooring.]
[Great.]
no subject
[He hears it at the same time. Oh, please let it be something skittery that isn't what he's thinking.]
Oh, godadammit.
no subject
...Okay.
[A simple, uncomfortable utterance as preps the baton. God that's going to get messy when it gets close.]
We need cover. [He says before turning running. Not to abandon the situation, leave Nathan alone with this new mess. He wants to find a place to make a bottleneck.]
no subject
No shit?!
[No need to worry about abandoning him, Nathan is sprinting alongside him. Fuck this. And fuck the fact that on the ship, there's only so far they can go.]
Up ahead—turn right, and the corridor starts to narrow!
no subject
[Ah, good. Said doorway.]
Over here! [He darts through it.] After we kill this thing I need your help. [With more than just killing whatever their friend is, apparently.]
no subject
[Speaking of which. Nate takes aim and resists the urge to keep running. Christ, what is that thing?]
no subject
About to move in front. [He warns so he doesn't get shot by darting in front of the barrel. It's almost ridiculous how spear fishing can actually come back as a useful thing in one's life. But Kaz darts his way back out when it's bottlenecked and jams the light blade in its chest. Which unfortunately doesn't kill it, because that would be too convenient, but rather leaves Kaz using the lengthened baton like a pole to hold the angry and wounded and flailing thing in place while Nate can shoot at it properly.]
no subject
['Roger.' Nate feels like a tool just saying it, but something about his guy makes him feel like he should at least pretend to have some soldierly discipline. Whatever, it works, because Kaz doesn't get shot and the creature gets extremely shot once it's pinned.]
Nice work.
no subject
Thanks.
[He pulls off his right glove, revealing his half-transparent prosthetic. Something he picked up here on the ship. Before he was too stubborn to accept new ones- the loss of the others to a monstrous enemy, somehow, made accepting replacements a wound to his pride. But after a couple of attacks, he figured he should play along. Get back into fighting condition.]
[Point being-] I had my prosthetic enhanced. I can use it to generate decoys. Sort of like the ones in the training room, but they're more simple. They're just silent illusions. But I have to use it to scan you. Figure I should ask first.
[Sure he could have asked for super strength or heavy combat or shielding or something else. Instead he asked for what would help with stealth.]
no subject
Me—? Oh, right. I get it. Sure, go ahead.
[He doesn't love the idea of other hims running around, even just for misdirection, but it's a lot better than the alternative.]
no subject
Alright. Whatever uses sight, we can lure into a trap.
