he ate my heart
Playing defense isn't exactly her favorite part to play, but she also understands the importance of it. She would much rather be out in the thick of it all, which is exactly where she is. She's fighting off unimaginable beasts and doing everything she can to insure that those that can't defend themselves are assisted to safety.
It's as she returns to the safe zone with another passenger that she sees Kirk fending off an assailant, and rushed to his aid. She was grateful she had been stock piling her ammunition, because it was proving extremely useful now. A few shots rang out, and she hoped and prayed it took care of the thing Jim was facing off with.]

He's intimately familiar with the defense of a starship. He's had to do that for his own, take over a veritable warship from a crazed Admiral, and a portion of a Romulan one. Lucky for him, and the others he is watching out for, very few monsters are getting past the initial fight o far. A few break through defensive lines, and so Jim has had to go on the offensive. There are a couple of monsters dead or twitching in his general vicinity, and he's splattered across his uniform with whatever passes for blood.
Under normal circumstances, he would have preferred reason over violence, but there isn't time for that. His raiding of the armory proved useful for a couple of phased weapons, and something similar to Sulu's retractable sword, but far shorter. After losing his hand weapon, after it was knocked from his grasp, he'd been unable to get his rifle unslung before he was shoved into the nearest bulkhead. The dagger had come in handy, and he stabbed it into one of the creature's hands.
A few loud cracks resounded through the passageway after, before the creature could take another swing at him, and dropped with a miserable howl. He pulled himself up with a groan, casting a glance back in the direction of the weapons fire, and started to regather his munitions. His uniform is ripped at the right shoulder, and he's spattered with all kinds of blood and gunk from these monsters. ]
Thanks for that.

Don't mention it. [It only takes her a moment to clear the remaining distance between them, and she picked up the nearest weapon, offering it back to him.]
Quite the arsenal you've collected. [Not that she can be talking. She has her pistol in her hand still, but the shotgun strapped to her back is ever present. And it's probably best not to mention what else she has hidden on her body.]
You look like hell. I do hope that's not your blood I'm seeing. [He's a mess, and she'd be lying if she said otherwise. She definitely glad she was there to intervene when she did.]
no subject
He takes the weapon from her, checks it over, and raises it mid-way, prepared for the next wave of creatures to come at any moment. ]
I think the situation warranted it. Normally I'd opt for a chance at a peaceful ending to all this, but I don't think any of these guys feel much like talking.
I've had worse. [ He says it a bit grimly, but it isn't untrue. ] And only some of it is mine. Close quarters and claws don't really go well together.
no subject
Only some? [She scoffs lightly.] Let's get back to the safe zone, and let me look at it. I used to be a nurse.
[For one who is exceptionally bad about fighting when she needed to stop, she was stubborn about her friends doing just that.]
no subject
Yeah, some. [ He says it with a scoff of his own, and ducks his head a little to wipe his sweaty forehead on the sleeve of his uniform. ] Right.
[ He takes another look around them, noting that it looks as secure as its going to, and nods to her with a grin, weary but still with an undercurrent of exuberance. ]
Long as we're ready for the next wave. Lead the way.
no subject
She nods when he tells her to lead the way, her grasp tightening on her gun as she began to move through the halls again. A turn up ahead, and they were back in one of the designated safe areas. She soon returned her gun to it's holster, then proceeded to grab one of the first aid kits waiting there for those who came in hurt. Once it was in her hands, she turned back to him, giving him a pointed look.]
Alright, let's see the damage.
no subject
It hadn't worked, of course, but he still tried.
He trails along behind Peggy, weapon at the ready should he have to use it, but they get to the safe zone with little incident. He knows that look, too, and offers a rusty chuckle as he takes a seat, setting the weapon down beside him. ]
You know, I get worse looks from Bones back home. [ But he does undo the top half of his uniform, and slowly pull it down from the shoulder that had been torn into. There are a few gashes, but they aren't too deep. ]
no subject
At this point, she's mostly just talking to keep him distracted. The wound isn't terrible. It's bloody, but not very deep. She doubts he would even need stitches. But she still has to clean it, and that's never a very comfortable experience, even with these fancy future supplies.]
no subject
He doesn't mind the distraction, but he also doesn't really need it. He's had plenty worse in bar fights when he was still living in Riverside before joining up. He looks over as she cleans up the wound, face screwing up at the gashes that he can see light through in his uniform. ]
What is it with me and shirts?
