Who: Elena Fisher & Adrien Arbuckal
When: July 12th
Where: Medbay
What: Cryostasis things
Warnings: Talk of body horror, possible swearing on Adrien's part
[ It was some time around the wee, early hours of morning that Elena rolled herself out of bed. No one else in her room was currently up, both human and animal alike all resting up. She made sure not to disturb anyone, pulling on her robe to wrap around herself as she shuffled out into the hall. It wasn't until she was outside and out of earshot that she sagged into the metal wall on a pained moan; things weren't going well at all, she was now sliding into the zone of just giving up, and going to Nate about that wouldn't do her any good.
Any other time, she was a fighter. Her strength and willpower, her fortitude and self-perseverance— that was what she was best known for. Surviving Shambhala, nearly bleeding out from her dance with Flynn's grenade drop, coming out of it alive... And now... Now she was beginning to slip.
It couldn't be helped, there was simply too much going on at once. Sleep seemed impossible with the slow but steady and constant thrum of pain radiating in multiple areas. Rolling onto her glass arm and side only made it ten times worse, like she was right back to leaning over the edge of the medbay bed with a doctor holding her hair while she got violently sick all over the floor as it got to be suddenly too thick to push through and for her to handle. And now with the depressing and frustrating situation she found herself in with her husband where he seemed set on refusing to let her in, being made to feel so useless to help him— her marriage was once again rocky and the foundation they'd begun to rebuild back up since their time arriving on the Moira had crumbled.
Elena was tired. She was resigned to the fact that nothing was going to get better. And that space sucked. Absolutely sucked.
There was no cure, no fix to the glass problem that she and many others suffered. She couldn't begin to imagine the infuriating 'zero answers' that the doctors were coming up with in equation to everything.
All she wanted right now was to be able to sleep. To stay asleep for more than two hours at a time. And that was when she remembered the advice she'd been given that she had strongly disagreed with in the first place. What other choice did she have now?
With that in mind, Elena forced herself to make her way to the medbay.
There had to be a better answer to all of this than that. Maybe she could make a plea for their strongest sleeping pill that could knock her out and give her a solid eight hours of sleep. She would even offer to spend that time asleep there so they could monitor her. ]

How long has it been this bad?
[ Nope, he's not even going to pretend at small talk or any other slow ramp up bullshit. She looks horrible (hey at least he doesn't say that aloud) and he could already feel his stomach sinking.
Because he was no further in finding a way to reverse this than he had been a day or more ago. Actually that wasn't entirely true. He was certain the answer lay in repairing the Ingress but that was a project that fell far out of his wheelhouse, which left him useless in these circumstances. ]

No small talk was fine by her, the thought of trying to pretend that nothing was wrong exhausted her. ]
Only a few days now. If you're looking for honesty— I'm barely sleeping. Hard to tell apart day from night.
It's why I came here; I was hoping this place had any sleeping pills to offer.
[ Elena hoped he would tell her she looked like crap. It would make her smile, maybe even laugh. Or maybe not, it would hurt. They couldn't win. ]
Just one.
[ God, give her something. ]

Getting her to an exam bed he was very conscious of where the glass was located on her body, even as he offered to help her get up on the surface. ]
We have something that might help and a pain reliever as well. The combination of the two should provide you with enough temporary relief to get some sleep.
[ While drugs were never his first go too option, even as stubborn as he was about them he could admit when they were necessary. When the need for the body to relax, rest, heal over-rode the ethical qualm of using drugs to treat an issue.
They were still temporary fixes in Adrien's mind but at this point he didn't have anything else he could offer. ]
Are you aware of having any drug allergies?

[ His help getting her up was something she heavily relied on in that moment, feeling a little woozy and unsteady. It was as though she needed a moment to adjust to the shift in going from standing to sitting.
Elena didn't feel like she would have another episode of getting sick at his feet, this was different. Alarmingly different.
Although she was seated, her body was leaning into whatever hold he might still have on her, fingers not releasing the shoulder of his medical jacket. What if she slipped? She was sure he wouldn't let that happen. ]
I think... [ Pausing to wet her lips, her mouth unexpectedly feeling dry. ] I think we might need a little something more than that.
[ Of course admitting to that wasn't what she wanted. Jesus, she hadn't even brought Adrien's offer up to Nate. Not that she'd seen him since his stint in getting drunk and she had to help him back to bed.
It suddenly felt like the heated wrap around her torso was useless, not working one bit. Weird, it had a full charge. ]
Let me know if this is too soon or not the direction you wanted!
Elena? [ His voice was sharp as he tried to get her to focus. Something about her words felt off as if she wasn't entirely cognizant of the fact that she'd already requested a sleeping aid and pain killer; a dangerous combination.
Something more than that??
Securing her with one arm around her shoulder, Adrien reached with his other hand to try to lift her face towards the low lights, seeking to study her eyes. ]
Elena, where are you right now? Can you tell me?
It's good!
Cistern...temple... [ The location or names would've made little to no sense to him but as the light tunneled into darkness in her one eye, Elena was underground, down the well. She was back in Yemen; her following words were breathed out, her whispers sounding like the ramblings of someone beginning to slip: ] ...Enochian script...
[ 'Get away from the wall—'
Her good eye was unfocused, staring up at the ceiling past the low lights above, hooded. ]
Cryo... [ A whisper. She was unresponsive to anything else, wincing. One more try, harsher— ] Cryosta—
[ Cryostasis. Permission given; Elena knew this would be their last chance, feeling it. Feeling like a gut instinct that something was terribly wrong, it was now or never. There might be no coming away from this if it wasn't now.
A phantom memory of pain biting into her one arm registered then as she went under, the smell of oil burning as a torch was lit and swung around strong in her nostrils like it was only yesterday. She remembered it all in slow motion. However, here and now, in the medbay, her body abruptly seized up, going tense and pitching forward. A low moan broken by the unexpected onslaught of fresh pain under her left breast caught in her throat— and then dead weight, pulse a weak flutter. ]
/goes to call the hubby!
Even as he spoke to the MID, delivering a clipped message to Nate, he motioned to a medtech. ]
Prep a cryo unit.
[ He said, voice surprisingly calm and level even as he shifted his grip on Elena to pick her up. It would be easier to transfer her directly to the cryo room than to fight with moving one of the stretchers. ]
