"Follow, and the universe will open where there was once walls."

With the Collectives now behind them, the atmosphere of the Moira seems to have subsided into the general daily grind of ship living. Shifts pass, meals are served, and the occasional tiff continues to hum in the background. However, whether new or veteran, today is not like any other day the crew have seen or experienced so far. The thrum of the ship is a normal one. Those aboard feel it, know it. In fact, whether you realize it or not, the pulse of the engine, its wings, and that of the Ingress is a constant, consistent buzz in the back of your mind and under your feet. Even during planet excursions, it’s almost like a pull to draw you back to the ship and ground you to the present moment. It’s familiar.

It’s late, in the early hours of twilight, that everything begins to feel off. The Moira suddenly begins to drift, tipping gently to one side and resulting in everything on board beginning to roll and tip over. So those in their beds may abruptly find themselves thrown onto the floor. Those walking from a shift back to their rooms or elsewhere on the ship will likely be thrown against a wall. The movement is drastic, but the ship’s systems realign the Moira within several minutes of the event. Anyone near the Ingress room will hear the Captains arguing with one another, and those that go closer will see that Captain Manessah is standing in the middle of a non-functioning Ingress.

It’s off, with no swirling light, and they can’t seem to get it to come back on. It’s clear to anyone that comes by that the Captains are worried, bordering on frightened by the fact that it doesn’t seem to want to restart itself—if that was even a possibility of the Ingress at all. They begin to disagree with each other on the best way to fix it, their spoken language changing to something that the MID can’t translate. Captain Thán exits the room in a rush, not stopping to speak to anyone, and the other two continue to try and find a solution to this problem. Not long after, they send out a ship-wide message informing crew that they are relieved of their duties for the rest of the week except for basic cleaning and cooking. Any personnel with experience in technology and matters relating to the Ingress are asked to come to the Ingress room.

Turn It Off, Turn It On
Anyone who comes to the Ingress room will be asked to clean, repair, and examine the Ingress. The Captains don’t say why it’s urgent that it be fixed, but it’s obvious that they want it to be done immediately. Crew members can assist one another in taking the coolant systems apart to maintenance them or to suggest ways to fix the machine. After a few hours of steady work, that familiar thrum will be felt under everyone’s feet and the Ingress machine will power back on. However, both the Captains and the crew will notice one startlingly obvious difference: the moving blue light and energy has darkened around the edges. There appears to be a person standing just on either side but can’t come through. The shadow remains there no matter what anyone does, and the colors flicker and alter depending upon which crew member is the closest.

And like most things, they always come in pairs. Later that evening, a broadcast is received via Navigation that’s translated across the entirety of the Moira, both over an intercom and over the MID. While it is received as a text, a nondescript voice announces it promptly:
Greetings. We are sending this as a formality on behalf of our sister, Caducus Primary and its survivors. In accordance with our beliefs, the travesty that has occurred in the past must be made equal. That equality means lives given for those taken. While terms are unlikely to be made and agreed upon, they will be heard. A decision to flee will be seen as an act of guilt and cowardice. This is the only warning that will be made. You will be given time to prepare for our approach, People of the Vessel Moira.

With this message received, Navigation also informs the Captains, who then relay to the crew, that a ship bound from Caducus Secondary are within range and have made it clear they are here to settle a “debt” by attacking. Members of the crew are being divided into randomly assigned teams - which can be found temporarily listed in the MID under the directory - and encouraged to discuss plans to help prevent and preserve the lives of those aboard. Reporting these ideas will be the responsibility of elected team leaders, and a final decision will be made shortly thereafter by the Captains.

INGRESS ROOM - OTA

[L isn't formally a technician or an engineer in the way that some other people are, and he's not sure he can be of much help. His on-ship assignment is absolutely nothing of this nature. On the other hand, he understands the basics of how most electronic systems work, has facility with computers, and is a fast learner.

He decides, after a moment's thought, that he's savvy enough that he's unlikely to make anything worse... besides, this is an opportunity to get a close look at the guts of the Ingress and get an idea of how it might work.

He shows up soon after the request in clothing that might be much more casual than the captains want to see.]

What's wrong with it now?

[And later, as he prods at the innards of the cooling system and gently blasts air onto a delicate bit, he asks the person nearby,]

Is this your typical assignment?

[It's just a conversation-starter; most of his attention remains on the machine.]

[Saitama had been called to help with the repairs. This was not because he had any technical knowledge, but because the machine had lots of large parts and metal casings that needed moving around. He didn't mind being the muscle in the room, all he had to do was wait to be ordered around by the brains of the operations. He'll be leaning against a hunk of machinery he pulled aside so L could get a better look at the machine's delicate bits.]

Nah, I clean up the wings. [he sure doesn't seem like muscle, from his string bean like build. Still, he picked up the engine in front of the cooling system and set it aside like it was a misplaced stack of books]

See anything in there? Maybe we got rats. [Space rats.]

hallways
[ Little to no sleep doesn't mean skipping routine, and it's in the middle of his usual run through the corridors of the Moira that his equilibrium is rolled out from beneath his feet. Steve's quick to try keeping himself upright, but the force of it is hard, enough to barrel him over and attempt to slam him into the opposite wall. Of course, since those aboard the ship are just waking up, it's not as if he'd been entirely alone, reaching out to grab anyone who is with him to take the brunt of the impact when they smash into the opposite side. He feels it down to his feet, braced against the side of the hallway until it feels as if it's beginning to even out again, and when they slide down onto the floor, Steve's promptly letting go and trying to get them both upright. ]

Are you okay? [ The concern is there, though soon overshadowed by the frown pulling at his mouth as he looks around and listens to the rest of the ship come alive in varying levels of distress. ] We shouldn't stay here in case this happens again. Which way were you heading?

ingress
[ It's been several long days since the incident with the Ingress and the announcement. Several long days of trying to figure out what to do, where to go and how to handle everything that's been thrown at them without any real explanation. He's sat in on some of the negotiations, but it's not as if he entirely agrees with it. Diplomatic measures are only safe to assume when the other party isn't intent on "making things equal", when they want to listen to find a peaceful end to the conflict, and only having one plan? There need to at least be three or four in case the first few fall through—fail-safes. Steve doesn't speak up though, not yet. The majority of the Avengers are there as well, which is what he's going to inevitably fall back on if no major decision is reached.

For now, he's lingering in the room with the Ingress, staring at the shadowy reflection of a person just on the edges of coming through. The colors are off too, something he can't spend too long looking directly at without feeling strange. All this futuristic tech is too much sometimes, and he sighs, arms crossed over his chest as he alters between watching the swirl of the machine and the people coming in and out. He glances up when he sees someone close enough to actually voice something that's been weighing on his mind for a while. ]

What do you think it means? [ There are a few assumptions he's been considering but nothing really concrete. ]

[Things had been awkward, to say the least, between Daisy and Steve ever since she attempted to out Loki as a bad man. Which, reminder, he is. Even when they were on shift together they barely talked, which was all him because Daisy never knew how to shut up. She doesn't like silence, at all. On her way to get breakfast, Daisy suddenly found herself jerking to one side. She went to brace herself but that did little to help. Everything happened so fast that she didn't even know who it was that had grabbed her until she looks back and sees its Steve.

As soon as he let go of her she was on her feet again. That's when she noticed something was extremely off and all the color drained from her face.]

MedBay

i – Physician squish!
[ Adrien was in the MedBay enjoying a fairly quiet shift that mostly involved the wild and exciting world of inventory. He was still sorting through the items he’d picked up back on the Collective, Courser laying on one of the exam tables and watching with lazy flicks of his tail.

It was the bahari who alerted to the fact that something wasn’t right. The tracker’s head came up and he made a low, worried noise a split second before Adrien felt the growing shift in orientation. ]

What the … [ He began in the breath before the shifting began to accelerate and suddenly the floor began to roll beneath his feet.

Courser jumped, deftly altering his own orientation to ride out the roll. Adrien, made to do likewise, diving to grab at a secured cabinet. Unfortunately, one of larger pieces of equipment he’d managed to pick up on the collective, had yet to be secured. It tipped and with an almighty crash hit the floornowwall and slid across the slick surface.

Adrien’s eyes widened and he quickly tried to scramble but the lean was too extreme at this point and he couldn’t clear the path of the careening equipment. It slammed into him, ripping his grip off the counter. Equipment and human tumbled along the floor, towards the far wall (which was currently doing floor duty) tumbling until they crashed into the wall.

In a stroke of luck, the equipment slammed into the wall just off to the side of the human. Well … it was a strong of luck, until the Moira pitched back to her proper axis, at which point Adrien slid down off the wall, back to the proper floor but under the piece of equipment, which slid down after him.

It landed square on top of its squishy human pillow, which was probably good for the delicate mechanisms in the equipment but wasn’t entirely good for the doctor now pinned under the heavy piece. ]

THE FU… !!!![ Yep, the bitching could be heard all the way to the Medbay door. ]

ii – Do you need a bandaid?

[ After getting free of his rather unfortunate run in with a piece of medical equipment, Adrien hit the ground (the proper ground now thank you very much) running. If he had aches and bruises of his own they were summarily ignored as he switched to crisis mode.

If he’d had an unfortunate crash into the walls, he probably wasn’t the only one, which meant there were injuries to be tended too. ]

-What happened?

or

-Did you find them like this?

or

-How did you manage to …?

[ Were some of the questions he could possibly end up asking crew members who came through the door, depending upon the injuries presented. ]

MID - Negotiations

[ Adrien was on team negotiations which … why?? But that was the long and the short of it.

For the most part, he kept half an ear on any discussions going on across the MID, his focus was on the MedBay but there was one point upon which he spoke up. Voice only, since his hands were busy and no one needed the shaky video making them sick. ]

Handing over any member of this crew should not even be part of the discussion.

nerd rage (ingress)
[ Tony had leapt at the call for the technologically gifted - not because he feels anything resembling a sense of duty, mind you, but because he's been itching to get his hands on the Ingress since the moment his feet hit the deck. Banner had shown him everything the science department had on the thing, which had only piqued his curiosity. An unfathomable mechanical portal between dimensions that multiple scientific minds have barely made heads or tails of?

Hell yes, of course he wants to take it apart.

So it is that he arrives at the Ingress room in good, perhaps even manic spirits, the way he does when he's about to delve into his workshop for a week, realizing his next grand idea. But that child-in-a-candy-store excitement starts to wear thin the longer he spends actually examining the device in question. Confusion turns to incredulity, which quickly dissolves into muttering as he lifts panels and examines the strange machine's construction. ]

"Standards are unicorns" is just a saying, you know, no need to take it so literally! [ He punctuates this by popping off a bolt fastening one of the machine's innards, which he suspects is related to whatever-the-hell is powering this damn thing, but there's no way for him to know unless he can actually look at it. ] I feel like I'm gonna pull a wizard's hat out of this thing at any moment. Maybe some pixie dust, too? I hear that extends the life of your coolant system.

[ He yanks out the strange-looking cylindrical component he'd been gunning for, glaring at it like it murdered his entire family. ]

Who built this? I could cry.

[ After the Ingress has been restored to some semblance of working order (Don't ask him how! It's a fucking mystery!) and the Moira has received the Caducians' message, Tony can be found alternately within Nomo #001 or, when he remembers he needs to eat ("eat", "drink three coffees in a row", it's the same thing), camped out in the mess hall with at least two laptops that he's now praising his lucky stars for buying back on the Collective. Both screens are a mess of scrolling code that he seems to be attempting to absorb all at once. ]

Oh, c'mon. We can do this. [ He adjusts an earbud in one of his ears and leans forward, eyes narrowed. A few quick keystrokes and something on the screen shifts, giving him what appears to be an audio visualizer. ] Wait - shit, yes. Okay. Good. JARVIS, keep an eye on this one. These assholes. I saw better network security than this in college.

[ Is he... hacking the Caducians' ship? Yes. Obviously. What a stupid question.

And if you find him in the mess hall, mind the four empty coffee mugs. He's been here a while. ]

[ Adrien had found himself booted out of the MedBay.

Of course the fact that he had no idea how long he'd been in the MedBay was probably testament to why he'd been booted out of it. Still, he didn't intend to stay out for very long.

Heading back to his quarters, he'd grabbed up his shower kit and was now returning from said shower. He was wearing loose fitted lounge pants, just something to keep decent while he dug up a fresh uniform but no shirt. The spectacular bruising pattern laid out across his back and side were on display as he scrubbed a towel over his head.

Just in time to hear his barrack mate speaking to thin air. ]

This theory is corroborated when Tony jerks his head up and squints across the room at Adrien, like he's 1.) very confused to see him here at all and 2.) having trouble swapping over to the 'human interaction' side of his brain after hours of attempting to crack a space-age communications network. ]

[Well this is. Incredibly unpleasant in the morning. Especially a morning after you've been drinking (which is most mornings). At first Hawke thinks the tilting is just her vision swimming in preparation for a nasty hangover. And then suddenly she's pitched violently sideways into someone and there's a nasty bang as their body hits the wall. This poor person. There's a pause as if they're waiting for the ship to continue spinning in a spectacular barrel roll but thankfully, it seems to have righted itself. At least for now.

Hawke exhales and struggles to stand as the other person, a man that she doesn't recognize, helps her to her feet.]

Not real sure what's wrong, but figure we gotta get it fixed, right? Usually just a messenger 'round here, but I got some experience buildin' stuff and programming.

[ Library. ]

[ Charlie was in the middle of an insomnia stretch, getting out of the bed she wasn't sleeping in, to head to the library and get to work early. It was when she was stacking books that the whole god damn ship decided to go sideways. And of course, it was while she was on the fucking ladder. Up high.

So, of course, this meant when the ship tilted, she started to fall. As did the books. She made a valiant effort to hold onto the ladder but a couple books hit her hands and down she went, landing on the floor...wall? wall... with a loud string of swears, a book or two hitting her in the head before she tries to slow down the rest with telekinesis. This results in a few books burning and charring, hitting the ground around her before Charlie manages to ease her way away from the mess.

And of course, this is when the ship starts righting itself. Charlie lets herself slide to the ACTUAL GOD DAMN FLOOR...letting books fall around her but not making much of a move to do more than sit with her back on the wall.

[TO THE INGRESS!]

[Spending time at the Collective (and getting off planet without incident...) has put Elizabeth into a relaxing state of mind. She seems calmer, and sleeps better.]

[So she doesn't initially stir until she's being deposited onto the floor right after catching her forehead on her bedside table.]

[A few startled and disoriented moments later, Elizabeth is checking her MID and finding that something is definitely very wrong with the Moira. She throws on her robe and leaves her quarters, aiming to locate the captains. No doubt the crew would be stirring and asking questions soon enough. Better that she's prepared.]

[At the Ingress - Closed to Thán]

[As soon as she reaches the Ingress, she immediately registers that something is wrong with it. Not that Elizabeth has spent too much time staring into the Ingress, but it's never been so dark before in this room. She barely has time to step aside before Thán beelines out of the room, and Elizabeth looks back at the other two captains before following him.]

Did something happen to it? Damage of some kind? [Obviously something's happened, but what?]

[When It Rains It Pours]

[And now there's a strange shadowy figure in the Ingress. But what does it mean?]

[It's a potential danger, obviously, but she has to focus on the more pressing concern-- namely the ship from Caducus Secondary. (Of course there was a second one, why on earth would anybody name a planet 'Caducus Primary' if there wasn't a second one?) As far as she's concerned, there is no way this won't end without conflict-- from the message she's gathered that they're not interested in talking, so what good would negotiations do aside from giving them an opportunity to pick off whatever poor group of crewmembers were sent over to beg for mercy?]

[Still, approaching this from all angles is necessary. But from where she sits, attack or defense are their only real two options. Or some combination of all three methods.]

[She moves from her quarters/office to the library, cleaning up a little from the ship's rollover and pouring over the glass-bound book she obtained from Caducus Primary. It's not a law book, though, so her search for something that could help is going to be very long and intensive. When she gets tired of that, she goes back to her quarters/office to think and meet with any of the crew who might have concerns or want to discuss strategy. The spent teabags are piling up, and any rest she may have gotten on the Collective is more or less shot.]

[How does she save her home?]

Hallway;
[Clara's on her way back from the cargo bay when the equilibrium of the ship is thrown off, and she's sent roughly crashing into the nearest wall. A little panicked by what could be happening, she remains pressed against the wall until the ship rights itself and she collapses in a heap on the cold floor. Completely dazed by all the being thrown about, she pushes herself up and looks around. There's someone nearby, judging by the hurried footsteps. So she goes ahead and makes her confusion and annoyance vocal.]

Who in the hell's in charge of driving this thing?

Ingress; closed to people she has cr with

[Shortly after the shift on the ship, she makes her way toward the Ingress under suspicion that it's somehow all at fault. A lot of fingers get pointed at the Ingress when there's blame to place, and she figures she might as well check it out. However, popping her head into the area shows the captains arguing, and it's very clear from a quick once over that the Ingress isn't working. At all.

Unsure of what to make of that, she turns on her heel and takes off at a run, heading toward someone she trusts to give information to and plot with. When she finds them, she's out of breath, and holds up her hand to signal that she needs a second as she catches her breath.
]

Library;

[After being named leader for those tasked with forming a negotiation plan, Clara stations herself in the library. It's easy to find and a good central point for her to talk to others in the same group, and offers plenty of room to meet and talk. It also affords her the luxury of looking through books to gain ideas, which she spends hours doing. She takes notes as she does, and doesn't really take the time to do things like eat or sleep for a few days. She does, however, take the time to find some books on botany to take notes on, as well as some Austen she can read for enjoyment. A copy of Pride & Prejudice is hidden in a self-help book on negotiation tactics, and she's so absorbed in reading it that she doesn't realize someone's approached her until she turns a page and glances up.

Seeing someone standing there, she gives a startled jump and both of the books drop down to the table. A sheepish smile follows, and she motions for them to sit down with her.
]

Please tell me you weren't standing there too long.

Gardens;

[Knowing how important the gardens are to the continued survival of the Moira, Clara takes it upon herself to visit the gardens in order to try and secure things as best as possible. Just because they're all making a plan doesn't mean that it will be successful, and that their ship won't be boarded and attacked. Just in case it is, she takes great care to make sure their garden will remain intact. She's busy at work moving things about, until the incredibly late hours of the night. She's definitely able to be interrupted for conversation or help!

If someone happens to visit the gardens early in the morning, she can be found leaning against the largest tree in the area, fast asleep. She's been working incredibly hard to stay busy so she can feel in control of her life here, and is exhausted.

arcreact: so he made me turn around 360 degrees and when he saw my ass, he blurted out my first AND last name ((843) he literally had no idea who i was)

[ After a moment or two, Tony reaches absentmindedly for the coffee mug. He's been nursing the thing for at least an hour and a half now, so muscle memory tells him where it is without needing to look up from his computers.

Imagine his surprise when his hand comes down on something furry instead of ceramic.

He nearly leaps out of his skin at first, rounding on the four-legged coffee thief. He deflates almost immediately when he realizes it's just a dog. With boundary issues. ]

Listen, you fuzzy asshole, I was still working on that. Do you mind?

[ Grumpily, ] That is not what I meant when I said "hold that."

[ Can't anyone around here just be normal? He rolls his eyes and sticks his head back inside the panel he'd opened up, fishing around for some part or another. It doesn't stop him answering the question, even if it's muffled and echoes strangely around the interior of the Ingress. ]

The origins of the universe aren't exactly my area of interest, but I could recite you Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, if that's what you're digging for.

[Clearly neither of them have been sleeping well, then. Wanda's not really surprised, though. She doesn't need her powers to imagine how Elizabeth must be feeling right now. Wanda doesn't consider the Moira her home, not the way it is for some, but since Pietro and Peter and Billy are all in potential danger from this, it might as well be.

Even more so since Pietro sleeps defenseless in a cryotube.]

No. Nothing is worse.

[She opens her mouth, closes it, takes a deep breath, and tries again.]

I didn't want to talk about it in front of everyone, but there are things I can do to protect us. [She hesitates again before her eyes lock on Elizabeth's. This is dangerous knowledge to spread.] I can make them drop their weapons and leave. Not for long. But maybe long enough.

[Elizabeth blinks slowly as the pieces of Wanda's suggestion fall into place, and lowers herself onto the couch. She's not surprised, given what she knows about Wanda's abilities, but even with that small amount of information she knows for certain that Wanda doesn't walk around bragging about what she can do.]

...Wanda... that could expose you to the entire crew.

[At least, were their positions exchanged, that would be what Elizabeth would be worried about.]
