"Papyrus is an open book, dude." Sans explains, eyes tired but fond all the same. "You don't need to ask. When he's ready, he'll tell you all on his own."

Well, maybe he would. Something tells Sans that if Mettaton has the intentions he thinks the guy has, it'll come up. Eventually.

"But, uh... yeah. You don't gotta worry about him, though."

Even though he's trying to be serious, Mettaton does express his frustration at that point. He can't help it!

"You're not a very good gossip, are you?" he asks a little flatly. "At any rate, that's fine! I'd rather he told me of his own volition anyway. In the meantime, I should probably apologize for being so forward about what happened before."

Like seriously. He came up to Sans and basically passive-aggressively asked him if this was a recurring theme. It wasn't subtle, and it wasn't nice. He can admit that.

"Heh, not about my brother. Not unless you wanna know his favorite things. I'll rattle you off a list of those." Talking about his brother is one of his favorite subjects of conversations, but certain things? Well, there's an unspoken truce between family.

When you're talking to your bro's crush, you leave all the questionable details for them to dole out.

"Don't mention it. You're fine, pal. If I were in your position, I probably would've been way less understanding."

Mettaton almost blurted out that he'd love to hear a list of Papyrus' favorite things so as to capitalize on the information for...future endeavours. But he stops himself because the fixation is getting a little embarrassing.

After all, he had befriended Sans first, right? Sort of. Maybe. Honestly Mettaton thinks so, because friendships are at least half-wrought with enormous screw-ups where he comes from.

"To be completely fair, it would have been warranted in your case. Papyrus is your brother, after all! You'd have the right to be upset! Oh, but look at me, all I've really done is talk about your brother when you should know that you are important too!"

...Let's not get into the details. None of his reasons for finding Sans important could possibly be self-serving, of course, but let's still not talk about it!

"Ey, ey, it's cool." Sans held up his hands, as if physically pushing the focus away. Talking about Papyrus, that was a comfortable area. One he knew backwards and forwards and didn't mind other people knowing backwards and forwards.

Himself? Eh.

"I'm plenty important. I'm related to the coolest guy on board." He winks. "You should go look for him. I think he'd like a visit from you. Chances are he's still awake, too."

Mettaton actually rolled his eye at that. Not in a condescending manner, but more because who was more into Papyrus, him or Sans?

"Ohh, I'd certainly love to do that!" he says with his usual levels of MTT-Brand Enthusiasm. "How great, I have your blessing to woo your attractive brother and all!!"

...That's probably an overexaggeration. Mettaton straight up doesn't care though, because as much as he thinks Sans is pretty cool--weird voidy shenanigans notwithstanding--he could never pass up an invitation to go find Papyrus and hear more about how cool he was, while also trying to flirt like the smooth operator he clearly was.

"Don't worry, Mister Important! We will be in touch again quite soon, since we'll need to talk about how you're planning on promoting me on the ship!!"

It's a little uncomfortable, hearing Mettaton state it so bluntly -- sure, Papyrus is a grown up now and more than capable of making his own choices, but c'mon. He doesn't want to hear about any grisly details. That's his baby brother, man!

But when he waves MTT off, it's with a grin still planted on his face.

"Yeah, yeah, get outta here. Shoot me a text and we'll do lunch."
