far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

"Dork."

She turns around and spots that tell-tale sign of their location, grinning widely. Is it alright to feel this happy in spite of how kind of fucked up everything is right now?

She lets out a content little sigh, and gives his hand a squeeze.

"I love Paris."

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-14 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
He's not even going to argue that because yes, yes he is a dork.

"It's probably a little cliché, I know. But I thought it would be a nice place."

And not too familiar, not too close to home. Close enough to be comfortable and different from being on board the Moira.

"So how about dinner?"
notpatsy: (hint of a smile)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-14 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think a bit of cliché would hurt this relationship."

They got together on a spaceship, he's the hulk, she's a former child star and they have been pretty short on standard romantic clichés. Apart from the bits where they are ridiculously over the moon about each other and struggle to get out of bed in the morning because of it.

"Dinner sounds lovely. Do you have a place in mind?"

If not, she knows tons of good ones.
hyperkinesia: (Is this a submarine?)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-14 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
He figured she wouldn't mind, hence the choice. He doesn't really have any unusual plans for tonight either, just some food, maybe even a dance, and a stroll through the city if they have the time. God knows how long the Ingress will allow them before they're being pulled back to the planet.

But he doesn't think about that. He'll enjoy the here and now, and make the most out of his time with her here.

"Not anything specific, but I remembered this street. It seems to have some really nice places, so we could just take our pick?"
notpatsy: (smile)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-14 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Most things about their lives right now she would call unusual, so a nice, ordinary date seems like an absolutely wonderful idea to her.

"You know how to date a food snob."

She leans in to give him a kiss on the cheek. Before she starts pulling him along down the street.

"How are we actually going to pay for dinner though?"
hyperkinesia: (bruce_aou_074)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-14 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, it definitely beats the Moira mess hall."

And Bruce could set up a nice place for a date on board, but the food would still be the one coming from the kitchens because he can't really cook. Not the kind of fancy food she likes, anyway.

He follows along down the street, looking around every nice little restaurant beckoning them, but ultimately letting Trish choose where she'd like to go.

"Oh, I've got it covered, don't worry."
notpatsy: (for real?)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-14 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Do you think... is this really our world, you know?"

Or another version of it. Her first plan had been to lead him to a restaurant she knew, but maybe it would be better to pick somewhere new. She wouldn't like to expect a friendly face just to find someone else running the place.

Besides, if they are seen by people who might know who they are, won't that create weird ripple effects of some sort?

Is she overthinking this?
hyperkinesia: (Loki's little quip.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-14 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know," he shrugs. "It's possible this is our world as I remember it, but it's also possible this Ingress just sends us to somewhere similar enough. I mean, I guess we can google 'Avengers' and 'Trish Walker' and see what pops up. That should give us an idea about whether or not we're in our world."

Bruce wasn't really thinking of ripple effects before, and he's still not doing it now. If people see them, they will— but considering they're sent back home without memories of the Moira, he highly doubts that what happens here will carry over to whenever they go back home. Not to mention that time doesn't even move forward while they're gone.

So technically it'll be like they've never even been here at all.

"Is it important? I just wanted to go somewhere nice."
notpatsy: (pretty)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-14 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Would just be weird to go somewhere I know the owners and have them not recognise me or something. So let's try something new."

She points at a restaurant that looks inviting to her, and more importantly it smells inviting. She'd like to think she's a pretty good judge of these things, though honestly she will probably be excited about having earth food regardless of quality.
hyperkinesia: (It's alright.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-14 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Sounds good to me."

The spot she picks looks inviting in that small and cozy way, and when they step inside they're greeted by a smiling waiter who takes them upstairs and directs them to a table on the balcony, just beneath an arch of plants and small white flowers. The table is set for two, with a small vase decorating it, and a candle that the waiter lights up for them. Couldn't get any more cliché than that, really.

Bruce accepts the menu the waiter hands to him, and once he leaves them to choose their meal, he glances at Trish with a smile.

"This almost looks like I planned the whole thing. I really didn't."
notpatsy: (smile)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-14 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
"I am starting to get a little suspicious, but since I did pick the place I guess I'll believe you."

Said with a smile as she reads through the menu. She really wouldn't mind if he had planned it all anyway.
hyperkinesia: (bruce_aou_035)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-14 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe it's all the power of suggestion, you never know. Maybe my feet were pointed towards this place and that was enough for you to go with it."

Said with enough amusement that it's clear he's not at all serious. Giving the menu a thorough look, he shrugs a little.

"Completely unrelated considering where we are, but I think I'm gonna go with the ravioli."
notpatsy: (smile)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-14 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
She toes her shoe off so that she can rub a foot lightly against his leg.

"Manipulative bastard."

She closes her menu as well and puts it to the side.

"Duck confit for me."
hyperkinesia: (If I couldn't handle pointy things.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-14 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, yeah. That's definitely me."

There's a hint of sarcasm there, but mostly he sounds giggly when he feels her foot on his leg. He'd almost bring it up but then it'd sound like he wants her to stop, and he really doesn't.

He does motion the waiter over to their table to take their order, so he hopes she can at least behave for the short while he's standing right next to their table. You know, just because it'd be nice not to get kicked out of a restaurant in a possibly alternate universe in the middle of their date.
notpatsy: (hint of a smile)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-14 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
She does remove her foot from his leg while they order (she takes the opportunity to use her French), but since she liked that giggly tone of voice she can't resist going back to teasing at his leg again once the waiter leaves.

"Thank you for this. I've been so worried about Jess lately... it's nice to get away for a little while."

Even if she feels guilty for it.
hyperkinesia: (bruce_aou_050)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-14 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Bruce ends up giving his French a bit of use too, even if it's not perfect, it's good enough for him to be understood. Food and drinks ordered, he turns his attention back to Trish, startling a hint when her foot finds his leg again.

"That's... It's my pleasure, really. I would've done this either way."

But it really is good for Trish to step away from the cryo units every once in a while. Bruce knows from personal experience that it won't help at all to just sit and stare, waiting for Jess to wake up, even if to her it might seem like a comfort.
notpatsy: (hint of a smile)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-15 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I can't believe we're actually in Paris."

It's one of those things Trish tries not to think about much, what it would be like to have a relationship with Bruce on Earth, because chances are she'll never know.

Now at least she's getting a taste of it. It would be easy to sink into sadness at such thoughts, but Trish pushes it aside. This is an opportunity to experience something wonderful together, she's not going to let thoughts of an uncertain future spoil that.
hyperkinesia: (bruce_aou_053)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-15 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
The thing is, ironically enough a relationship back in their world might've been a lot more complicated than on board the Moira. Maybe he'd be fine living in New York for a year, five, ten, or more— but how long until he had to run again? How long until he had to find a place to hide away in?

Not that he thinks about that much these days, and right now he really is focused on enjoying what he has with Trish. Regardless of it being something that inevitably will end; but then again, everything does.

"It's kind of weird, isn't it? We were in another universe just moments ago."

That part's more whispered than anything, even though they're the only ones on that balcony so far, and the waiters are French. Still wouldn't want risking anyone hearing him and thinking they're completely crazy.

"But this is nice. It's been a while since I've been here."
notpatsy: (beautiful lean)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-15 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Part of her stubbornly clings to the belief that what they have is strong enough to defeat the obstacles stacked against it. That somehow they will find a way back to each other when they go home because being apart just isn't right.

It's terribly naive, of course, but if it's a delusion it's one she's going to stick with.

"It's been a while for me too."

She slides her foot a bit further up his leg, just to see what sort of reaction she'll get.
hyperkinesia: (He really grows on you doesn't he?)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-15 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Bruce doesn't react quite as strongly as he might've were she to catch him by surprise, but right now he's a little more prepared— he seems to be almost expecting it, even, when her foot starts nudging farther up his leg.

"You know... I'm starting to wonder if you can go a day without trying to jump me."

Said lightly, though he doesn't draw away, nor does he make any attempt to stop her.

"I mean, not that I'm complaining, but..."
notpatsy: (smile)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-15 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Look, it's too much of a classic for her to pass up the opportunity to do this. If they're gonna be cliché might as well go for it all the way.

"Oh, I could. I just don't want to. Don't worry, I'm sure I'll get sick of it eventually."
hyperkinesia: (We shouldn't be focusing on Loki.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-15 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Cliché doesn't have to involve playing footsie under the table. Not that the thought alone doesn't arouse him, but he would like to leave the restaurant with his dignity intact and not a bulge in his pants.

"Eventually," he repeats, skeptical, staying still as her foot keeps sliding up his leg. "I find that unlikely."
notpatsy: (beautiful lean)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-15 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't have to, no, but she's having fun with it. If he's not, she will of course stop. And he need not worry, she will give him plenty of time to cool down before he has to get up.

"Is that a bad thing?"

Yep, her foot is definitely sliding along his thigh now.
hyperkinesia: (bruce_aou_048)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-15 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
There's at least that, thankfully. Not that Bruce doesn't have some amazing discipline, but dating Trish has made this kind of thing a little difficult for him— hard, you might say. There's only so much frustration one guy can bottle up before it starts spilling over.

"No," his words catch in his throat when her foot traces along his inner thigh, but he doesn't pull away, his knees shifting apart just a hint instead. "No, it's not a bad thing at all."
notpatsy: (pretty)

[personal profile] notpatsy 2016-05-15 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
She bites her lower lip a little when she feels him spread his legs ever so slightly for her, he's just so fucking sexy sitting across from her, talking in his usual calm voice while he is inviting her to tease him further.

She wouldn't really mind if some of that frustration did spill over, but that is something they're just going to have to take really slowly, and she knows that.

Her foot stills before reaching his groin, however, and her expression shifts from teasing to sincere.

"I can dial it back. In general, I mean."

Not just on this particular date.
