far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

"A dress? Yeah. Sure." He was about to rush on and do more things, but then something slowly struck him. Little girl was on this ship, and she probably only had the one dress.

Little girl probably wanted more nice clothes.

Aw hell.

"Ah.... Okay, so. Please don't tell anyone how I am about to get a car, okay? But I will take you to a nice dress shop, and then you can get some dresses."

He gave Papyrus an encouraging pat on the shoulder. Might as well keep him safe on showing him the real Liberty City.

"Alright, I'm going to go get us a good car. But I need you to stay here for about... three minutes." Because he needed to do it where Papyrus wouldn't see. He didn't want to be a bad influence, just show the guy a fun time.

Then he stalled. "Wait. Have you ever driven?"

[He rumbles uncertainly, scanning the trees for any signs of other movement.]

It's not easy for me to carry someone safely very far, but it's an option. [He spreads his wings a little - just enough for punctuation.] Depending on how well you know this area to get clear.

[He's not really afraid of a fight if he has to, but somehow he's managed to grow into enough sense to not assume he can take something when he doesn't know what he might be up against.]

One nice thing about their adventures in other worlds is that Papyrus is familiar with the surface already, to some extent. He loves it every bit as much as he thought he would -- the wide open spaces, the fresh breezes, the bright sun, and of course, all sorts of cool new terrain just waiting to be explored.

But one thing he hasn't seen before are monsters, his type of monsters, living side by side above ground with humans. They're absolutely everywhere, there's nothing but peace as far as the eye can see, and he even recognizes a handful of them from Snowdin. The nice cream guy, passing by with his handtruck full of frozen goodies, gives them both a big smile and wave.

"It... it's..." His eyesockets shine with emotion -- finally, all of their dreams! Coming true! And he'd be even more lost in it, except...

"Frisk, I don't understand! How is this possible?"

[ Something relaxes in Harry the moment they enter Kingsman, it's something like coming home even if he knows it's only temporary. Everything is as it was before his trip to Kentucky and he plans to enjoy this stroll down memory lane as best he can. Watching Miller react to the secret room is amusing.

There really was nothing like melodramatic spy gadgets and the like. ]

A gentleman's wardrobe isn't complete without a good pair of shoes. Also...

[ He snaps his heels together smartly and with a soft snikt a blade pops out of the toe of Harry's shoe. ]

The blade is covered in a fast acting neuro-toxin, I would recommend being careful.

[ Which he demonstrates by carefully putting the blade back into its sheath with the held of the wall. ]

"Really?"

Robin's eyes light up as Niko explains what he's about to do. She certainly hadn't expected him to help her find dresses, in addition to paying for them. She was really lucky to follow such a generous guy - even if a part of her suspects that he'll expect a favor later in return.

"...I won't tell anyone, I swear."

Die Hard Day? I don't think we have anything like that down here! Mostly we just celebrate Gyftmas!

[This is way too funny to be real. He never thought he'd ever see this cool guy of all people picking his tender way through the snow.]

Nyeh-heh-heh! You walk like you're from Hotland! There's treads on the bottom of your... boots or whatever those are, correct? You should be able to walk just fine!

Unless you're afraid of rust?

[He's got a lot to learn about Cybertronians.]

Yeah, when you shoot bad guys and yell things and rescue people from buildings.

[He makes a face, sullenly folding his arms, but stopping his weird little walk.]

Feet. And traction is totally not the problem. It's just... cold. And--

[Well. The face he makes is a little priceless.]

Rust? This stuff makes you rust?

[personal profile] coolskeletonnyehntyfive 2016-05-06 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
Of course! I'd be happy to!

[So it might be a tiny fib. But it isn't every day he gets to strut down the street with the coolest famous person he knows! If only someone else was here to see it.]

My brother and I work here as sentries! His job is to keep an eyesocket out for humans, and my job is to make sure he's doing his job. Which doesn't happen very often!

But you see... finally, one day, a human did come through here! And they were extremely weird! They didn't like puzzles, or smiling, or doing much of anything at all except...

[Hurting people. He searches for the right way to put it, feeling awkward. He doesn't even like to think about their LOVE.]

Like where? Hotland?

[He scoffs, his tone indicating that it's the worst place he could think of.]

No, no, you see... a human came through here! One who was acting very strangely. And I think they... they probably... scared everyone away?
coolskeletonnyehntyfive: (pic#9852994)

[personal profile] coolskeletonnyehntyfive 2016-05-06 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Nyeh-heh-heh! No, I don't think any of our ghosts want a rock! I just thought Sans could use some responsibility in his life, so I brought him a sensible pet!

[He folds his arms and taps his foot impatiently.]

But he never feeds Rocky or takes him on walks, so I have to do it.

[Papyrus was so close to asking how can you feel cold if you're a robot? but then more urgent matters come up.]

You really can rust? You don't have some kind of... fancy anti-rust finish?

...perhaps we should continue this conversation at my house!

[He takes off toward what is thankfully the largest building nearby. Most likely still not large enough to comfortably house a big robot, but Papyrus likely didn't think of that.]

But first, there's something that I want you to promise me.

[Snake could sense an eerie silence around the place when his feet touched the ground. Were there zombies around? He couldn't tell.]

Nice place.

[He couldn't help but try and make light of the situation, even though zombies could be around any corner. Snake levelled his gun up to eye level and was ready to defend himself if need be.]

It always this quiet?

"Octopus? That his codename?" Snake guessed that it was, since FOXHOUND used codenames also. He had learnt a bit about Liquid's world in the future but not that much. Should he even know? Time was weird like that. "You're still alive here? Better thank the Ingress for that." He was relieved that Liquid was alive, otherwise his trip could go very badly wrong if it were just him alone.

"If you were dead then I'd be screwed. This is your base and your comrades would probably kill me." Snake knew they might even kill him now. He'd just have to keep a low profile. "Mantis? The Third Child? Shit." He sighed. Damn. Would he sense that Snake was here? That essentially Big Boss was here.

"Edible hazmat, huh? Ingenious." Snake was impressed with the little pill and already started feeling the effects of the radiation wear off a little. The nausea was fading slightly and he didn't feel as dizzy. Yet, he knew it was only temporary and they would have to get away from the green lake.

"No fishing here, huh?" Snake couldn't help but crack a small smile. It wasn't often he got to visit an irradiated lake.

Asriel lets out a small chuckle. It was a little surprising to see Sans here, but Asriel's not sure if Sans would be the type to go running into portals anyway.

And the garden is a pretty quiet place.

"I was just checking on some of the flowers, that's all."

The watering can sways a little in his hands.

"It's pretty quiet here. Everyone must be busy saying hello to their own homes, huh?"

[Forests are perfectly familiar. The giant footsteps are definitely concerning.]

[He's actually pretty quick to follow Kaworu's attention, however; after all, Kaworu is the best source he has for what to expect here, and that's probably safer to trust than any knee-jerk reflexes of his that might be based on the wrong frame of reference.]

[Pray for him, he's trusting Kaworu.]

[He has a little too much of his life dealing with Large Things From Above, which at least means he's not having any kind of stupid sort of panic, but he is going to try to make sure he's not close to its trajectory if he can without getting too far from Kaworu. He trusts Kaworu to know what's going on, but even the Eidolons he knew could sometimes be hazy on what squishy mortals could take.]

What is that?

[Kaworu seems to know. He hopes. He's not always sure anymore.]

"Not you, though, huh?"

Sans' expression takes on a sympathetic cast. What Asriel knows about his own death isn't a topic Sans ever bothered broaching, but from his own quiet observation... well, let's say he could relate. Plopping down on the grassy ground, he nods for Asriel to join him.

"Well, c'mon. Have you taken a break yet, today? Union demands it, y'know. You wouldn't want to get labelled a scab, wouldja?"

[PAPYRUS NO...]

I'm gonna hold you to that, y'know.

[The smile that his answer brought on fades quickly, her expression growing serious.]

I want you to be completely honest with me, about everything, even the things that are painful and hard to talk about. Can you do that? If you cana...

[Kyoko takes a breath, closes her eyes, and exhales. Her words are slow, each one chosen with care. They come in quiet, secretive tones despite the empty space--nobody else should ever hear them. It's ridiculous. If she were an outsider, she would laugh at herself for addressing somebody like him so seriously.

That's fine. It's better, even, if she can leave herself the only one of them that has to feel the crushing weight and pressure of every reality they step into. It's better, because he can still have hope and be a hero of justice, not a sullied mockery like her.]

Whatever problems you wind up having, I'll find a way to fix them. Including this one.

[It's wrong. This world shouldn't be like this, but there's no one who will--or perhaps simply no one who can--step up to repair the damage. That's the way it's always been. Kyoko doesn't want to be the one to fix it, but the thought of leaving him to this already tainted world makes her stomach churn.]

Really? You think you can fix all the problems?

[There's nothing but hope and optimism in his voice -- if she says she can fix things, then he believes she absolutely can!

Even if he has no idea how she could do that, with so many people scattered to the winds in one way or another.
]

What do you wish for me to be honest about? You'll find me very forthcoming on a variety of topics!
