She tests the door, makes a token effort at finding stranglers, before she meets Papyrus' gaze.]
... Papyrus.
[They've spoken before--enough for her to acknowledge him if they passed by on the ship--without ever once using his name. It's only now that she chooses to.]

[Does he sound nervous? He hopes he doesn't sound nervous.]

[A beat.]
But first, there's something that I want you to promise me.
no subject
[Papyrus, you don't even know what it is.]
no subject
I'm gonna hold you to that, y'know.
[The smile that his answer brought on fades quickly, her expression growing serious.]
I want you to be completely honest with me, about everything, even the things that are painful and hard to talk about. Can you do that? If you cana...
[Kyoko takes a breath, closes her eyes, and exhales. Her words are slow, each one chosen with care. They come in quiet, secretive tones despite the empty space--nobody else should ever hear them. It's ridiculous. If she were an outsider, she would laugh at herself for addressing somebody like him so seriously.
That's fine. It's better, even, if she can leave herself the only one of them that has to feel the crushing weight and pressure of every reality they step into. It's better, because he can still have hope and be a hero of justice, not a sullied mockery like her.]
Whatever problems you wind up having, I'll find a way to fix them. Including this one.
[It's wrong. This world shouldn't be like this, but there's no one who will--or perhaps simply no one who can--step up to repair the damage. That's the way it's always been. Kyoko doesn't want to be the one to fix it, but the thought of leaving him to this already tainted world makes her stomach churn.]

[There's nothing but hope and optimism in his voice -- if she says she can fix things, then he believes she absolutely can!
Even if he has no idea how she could do that, with so many people scattered to the winds in one way or another.]
What do you wish for me to be honest about? You'll find me very forthcoming on a variety of topics!
no subject
Good.
[She scans the empty bar again.]
Let's get back to your house before we start talking about that. I'm still hungry, y'know. And...
[Her mouth opens to continue, but she holds the words back. She shakes her head. She hates everything about the look of this place.]
... Never mind. Let's go. For now, you can just tell me more about this place. Name's Snowdin, right?

[He's more than happy to leave Grillby's behind. It was always something of a hub for the town, always hosting sentries on break or bored townies or, of course, his brother.
Seeing it standing empty was more of a gut punch than he expected.]
That's right! Snowdin town! Though the whole area around here is called Snowdin too. If you go one way, you'll find the ancient ruins, and in the opposite direction you'll see the rest of the Underground!
[His own house is easily spotted -- large, twinkling with fairy lights, wreath on the door, and two mailboxes out front. One's empty and neat, the other's overflowing with junk mail.]
Behold! It's scenic my house! Come in, I'll show you around...
[It's roomy, two floors, comfortably furnished. There's a rock on a plate in the entryway, covered in sprinkles. Apparently the skeletons led a comfortable, oddball sort of life.]
