Still, the robot pumps his metaphorical brakes when he notices that Papyrus isn't looking directly at him. That's never a good sign. Usually it means someone doesn't know the answer to a question, they're nervous that they'll lose a game...or they just don't want to talk about it.
Despite his conscience tugging at him, Mettaton decides to pry. When has he ever listened to his conscience in time for it to matter?]
Really? Well I'm sure while we walk the length of Snowdin, we'll have time! Why don't you tell it to me?

[So it might be a tiny fib. But it isn't every day he gets to strut down the street with the coolest famous person he knows! If only someone else was here to see it.]
My brother and I work here as sentries! His job is to keep an eyesocket out for humans, and my job is to make sure he's doing his job. Which doesn't happen very often!
But you see... finally, one day, a human did come through here! And they were extremely weird! They didn't like puzzles, or smiling, or doing much of anything at all except...
[Hurting people. He searches for the right way to put it, feeling awkward. He doesn't even like to think about their LOVE.]
oh. my icons all shifted one number. that's weird. this one's still fine tho
Frisk liked puzzles, right?]
That sounds rather droll of them. Puzzles are great!! And I'm sure you came up with wonderful ones!
[Yeah, he'd lead with that.]

Sans and I thought maybe it was culture shock, but now I'm not so sure!

[HAHA...rectangle.]
That said, can you clarify to me exactly...what is is that the human you know is interested in doing? If they don't like puzzles, they have to have interests elsewhere.
[It's a firm poke, if sugarcoated a bit. He isn't letting this conversation point drop, even though he knows he should.]
