Who: Max Mayfield + You??
When: Sunday
Where: Here there and everywhere.
What: Arriving at the station and trying to figure out what's going on.
Warnings: Mentions of fighting and domestic violence. Spoilers for most of season two of Stranger Things!
[Her skateboard is clutched tightly in her arms as she makes her way down the various halls of the station. She has approximately 110 million questions burning in her mind, but she also doesn't know who to corner and demand answers from. As far as she understood, literally everyone got here the same way, which means no one's here because they chose to be.
She's still shaken up from the way Billy had charged into the Byers' house, first grabbing Lucas and then proceeding to beat the hell out of Steve as she'd stood by, paralyzed with fear. Way to go, Max, she thinks. It isn't the first time she's seen Billy in a rage like that, and it's never any less terrifying. He's so full of hate, of anger.
Her mind alternates between Hawkins and this new, foreign place as she wanders somewhat aimlessly, taking in the new scenery and thinking to herself that she's going to have to draw a map to figure out where everything is.
Because apparently there's no way back, and she's not sure how she feels about that.]
[Open to Roommates]
[In her wandering, she actually manages to find an empty room. With a bed. She sets her skateboard down carefully and then falls back onto it, closing her eyes and exhaling slowly. She's seconds away from passing out when she hears a weird noise. Opening one eye she turns her head in the direction the noise had come from. Definitely the wall.
Max sits up a little, eyebrows furrowing until she sees something bigger than a mouse scurry across the floor. Not a rat - it's - actually she's not sure what it is, but she quickly gets out of bed anyway. She hears another noise, this time from the adjoining common room, and she tenses, then makes her way out of the room, freezing when she sees another person standing there, looking back at her.]
Uh, hey.

[Why the power is failing... that's a good question. He wonders if it has anything to do with the recent discovery.]
[Footsteps make him pause. Lifting his hand to wave at the figure a handful of paces away.]
Hey. [Probably best not to startle someone.] Everything all right down there?
no subject
Yeah, everything's good. Just checking the place out.
[She holds onto her board a little more tightly, wary.]

[It comes out lighthearted enough, as he approaches. The closer he gets, the less familiar she looks. Sure, he doesn't know everyone on this station, but kids... stick out more than adults do.]
[So he holds out his hand -- his left hand. The right one still glows, illuminating the immediate area around them.]
New here? Or ... did I forget a face?
no subject
She eyes the hand he's holding out and presses her lips together, reaching out and giving him a firm handshake.]
Just got here.

[Two empty hollows in the living space that has been gracefully dubbed "Sadcat Manor" - one more significant than the other. One more significant than most people.]
[Chara is in the greenery, unsurprisingly - the place where they spend most of their time, if they're honest with themself, which they seldom are.]
[The quiet hiss of opening doors, and there's a girl in the doorway. Red hair. Skateboard. Unfamiliar.]
[The child straightens, marginally. The clusters of plants sprung up about every free space in the greenery vary from the earthly to the otherworldly, but they've been largely preoccupied with several odd, glowing blooms, their petals and stalks a luminous, soft cerulean.]
[They stand, and brush the crumbs of soil from their knees, and look at her.]
Can I help you?
no subject
She's staring at the greenery, eyeing the glowing blooms and petals and following the path they make upward, taller than she is. She starts at the voice, gaze coming to rest upon the kid who'd spoken.]
I'm just looking around.
no subject
[Ha ha. “See.” Get it?]
[They might have taken this chance, ordinarily, to unleash some casual torment; to spin wild tales about this terrifying new world, and caution the child about the dangers that may solemnly do you in. But, at the moment, it seems that they rather lack the energy. How sad.]
Welcome to the greenery.
[The glowing flowers repeat the words in soft, strange whispers - “eenery eenery eenery,” echoing quietly.]

She's gliding through the halls going from the library to Med Bay when she almost collides into a kid. A girl this time, but not Laura. Some redhead. She skids to a stop. ]
Hey, sorry. [ She notices the board, and realizes she's never seen this kid before so she must be new. And probably pretty freaked out. She pulls her earbuds out. ]
Cool board. That's some serious vintage shit.
no subject
Thanks. Yours is awesome.
[It's been awhile since she's been around anyone else who skates and a flicker of excitement goes through her, momentarily forgetting that she's in outer freaking space.]
no subject
Thanks. I picked it up at East 4th in Long Beach after I signed up with the tour. Figured I'd spend some of that advance while i have it, right? Where did you get yours, though? Did you dig it out of the attic or some shit? Or are like, kids into that retro hipster aesthetic now, too.

He's crawling past a hallway when he sees a flicker of red hair and assumes at once that it is Beverly. He puts on his bike's brakes and wobbles himself backwards to look.
It.
It is not Beverly. It's a girl he's never seen before in his life, but with similarly fiery red hair, but a completely different face. She's got a strange looking board with wheels and it takes Eddie a rather long moment to realize that must be the skateboard thing that had gotten big over in California.
But he jumps back to the fact that he definitely does not know this girl. And she was definitely a kid.)
Hi. Are you lost?
no subject
For a moment he looks wary, and she imagines there's a similar expression on her own face. She thinks he's going to leave again, but instead he speaks.
Max doesn't have the luxury of being defensive or sarcastic right now, because she is kind of lost. And he doesn't look like he's threatening so...]
Yeah, I guess. I'm just finding my way around.
no subject
(Or hallucinate, but Eddie finds both things particularly horrifying. It just wasn't worth the risk. He might not know this girl, but he is generally kind enough that he wasn't not going to inform a stranger of potential hazards. He spares a wary glance around.)
...And maybe you should come with me. I know this place like the back of my hand and...(Was this near where he had been taken? No, it's where the demon had dropped him off, he thinks. He doesn't say this. He doesn't want to scare the girl or anything.)
You don't want to be caught out in a black out or anything. That would suck.

People her age? Not so much.
At first she takes to following her, stalking her to see if she knows what she's doing, hoping to copy her. She's not sure what the thing in her arm is but it looks like a weapon so approach is too dangerous. It's not worth the risk.
She tries her best to be stealthy, to stay out of sight but she is, at the end of the day, a child. Her version of quiet is not as quiet as planned.]
no subject
So far here, she hasn't run into too many people yet and this whole place creeps her out. She's cold, and her green hoodie isn't warm enough to offer much help. Plus the lights keep flickering, making this entire thing seem a horror movie. It sort of feels like she's caught up in a horror movie.
It's when Max pauses for a moment that she hears it -- footsteps behind her. She turns quickly, clutching onto her skateboard more tightly, like somehow it can keep her safe which is stupid. She sees a figure down the hall and she squints, unable to see the person very well. But it looks like another kid. Jesus, why are they bringing so many kids here? she wonders, relaxing her stance a bit.]
Hey?
no subject
Eleven steps forward more, tentative and uneasy. This is not her strong suit, she's not even sure what to say. She looks the girl over, up and down, trying to ignore the pull in her chest at seeing such a normal looking girl, that beautiful long hair.
Pretty.
Crushing down the feeling of jealousy, she takes another step close and the light above flickers in an annoying manner, taking her back to all manner of bad memories. She looks up, focuses and slowly, it seems to stabilise itself. At least for now.
Regaining her focus, she eyes the other girl and holds up her hand, waving ever so slightly.]

You're new, aren't you? [And probably around her age. Which- it'd be really great to get more girls her age. Laura was gone, after all.] I'm Beverly- you look lost.
yes!
Still, she lifts her hand in a return wave.]
Uh, yeah. I just got here a couple hours ago. I'm Max.
oh no this got marked as read!
Heya, Max. I'm Beverly. [She smiles, because it's really great to have a girl her age here.]
Welcome to Space. I've only been here about a month or two. [She pauses] You're from Earth, right?

ROOMMATE HO
A new person qualifies in that category, it seems.
Thankfully, Max doesn't have to wander very far before she runs into Siegfried, who's already grabbed his cat and is headtilting right at her. Perhaps the funniest thing about him is that the cat in his arms is the same color as his hair, and Siegfried is really... really tall. Give the 6'2" dude a second to realize he has to hold a conversation...]
Ah. [Siegfried, could you please say hello like a normal person??] Sorry, was he bothering you? ["He" being his cat. Silber preens in Siegfried's arms and offers a "mroww?" as a greeting.]
\O/
Max shakes her head.]
No, I just - heard noise so I came to check it out. Um, is this your room? [She hitches her thumb over her shoulder, indicating the bedroom behind her.] If it is, sorry. I just got here and I didn't see anyone and I wandered in.
no subject
Mine is actually down this way. [A light jerk of his head, to indicate which part of the common room his room branches off of. Silber purrs affectionately in his arms before wriggling out and hopping back down to approach Max.]
Silber. [His brow furrows.] He likes people. Are you all right with cats?

a little after sieg decides he's done being tall and dense - which should be hard, the guy's got a lot of both - tetora pops out from his room with his hair in disarray. it's maybe afternoon on the ship, if afternoons could exist on a hulk of metal, but it's clear that he's only gotten out of bed just now.
there's a new person. a redhead, and it's not badou or shepard or nova. the traitorous cat is purring in her arms.
huh. suspicious. ]
You here to take the cat away?
no subject
Max pets the animal behind the ears, perfectly content for the moment, until someone else comes in. She looks up, tensing ever so slightly. But, without missing a beat:]
No. I'm the new cat sitter.

[ it's silly to have a rivalry with a quadruped mammal, of all creatures, but that's tetora's life aboard the avagi - constantly in battle with a cat over territory, because seigfried is helpless to cute objects. joy. ]
