Who: Max Mayfield + You??
When: Sunday
Where: Here there and everywhere.
What: Arriving at the station and trying to figure out what's going on.
Warnings: Mentions of fighting and domestic violence. Spoilers for most of season two of Stranger Things!
[Her skateboard is clutched tightly in her arms as she makes her way down the various halls of the station. She has approximately 110 million questions burning in her mind, but she also doesn't know who to corner and demand answers from. As far as she understood, literally everyone got here the same way, which means no one's here because they chose to be.
She's still shaken up from the way Billy had charged into the Byers' house, first grabbing Lucas and then proceeding to beat the hell out of Steve as she'd stood by, paralyzed with fear. Way to go, Max, she thinks. It isn't the first time she's seen Billy in a rage like that, and it's never any less terrifying. He's so full of hate, of anger.
Her mind alternates between Hawkins and this new, foreign place as she wanders somewhat aimlessly, taking in the new scenery and thinking to herself that she's going to have to draw a map to figure out where everything is.
Because apparently there's no way back, and she's not sure how she feels about that.]
[Open to Roommates]
[In her wandering, she actually manages to find an empty room. With a bed. She sets her skateboard down carefully and then falls back onto it, closing her eyes and exhaling slowly. She's seconds away from passing out when she hears a weird noise. Opening one eye she turns her head in the direction the noise had come from. Definitely the wall.
Max sits up a little, eyebrows furrowing until she sees something bigger than a mouse scurry across the floor. Not a rat - it's - actually she's not sure what it is, but she quickly gets out of bed anyway. She hears another noise, this time from the adjoining common room, and she tenses, then makes her way out of the room, freezing when she sees another person standing there, looking back at her.]
Uh, hey.

Thanks. I picked it up at East 4th in Long Beach after I signed up with the tour. Figured I'd spend some of that advance while i have it, right? Where did you get yours, though? Did you dig it out of the attic or some shit? Or are like, kids into that retro hipster aesthetic now, too.

Santa Barbara? [Her eyebrows rise a little.] It just came out not that long ago.

Oh, shit. Are you vintage, too, not just the board? [ She laughs. ] People get here from all different times. I got here from 2016 but one of my friends is from like, fucking 2006 and then another was from like, 1983 but he's gone now.
[ She shrugs. Whatever. Like she gives a shit. ]

[She sets her board down on the ground, stepping on it with one foot.]
Holy shit, 2016. [It takes her a second to do the math in her head.] I'll be 45. [Assuming she lives that long.]
I guess I am vintage. What year is it here?

She laughs trying to imagine this kid as a middle-aged woman. She'd probably be a cool one, like Shelli. ]
So you're, one of the grandmas of skating, huh? We should check out the gym sometime. I bet you like, invented some shit I do now.

[But her nose wrinkles at the word grandma. Don't break her brain too much, Kelly Ann. It won't take much.]
I'm down whenever. It's not like...I have anything else to do here.

Well. [ She shrugs. ] Why don't we go now? It's still kinda damp from the flooding but like, the lake is gone at least. I can show you the way. But there's also a map here if you ever need it. [ She shows her how to find the map on her A.C.E. ]

I'll take Skid Row any day of the week.
[She cocks her head and then nods in agreement, watching as the older girl shows her how to use the A.C.E. Cool.]
Thanks. This kinda thing definitely isn't around yet for me.

I could do without the used needles on the sidewalk but at least pizza isn't $20 a slice, right?
[ She looks at her own A.C.E. ]
This is pretty far advanced even for me, really. But I guess it's a pretty big jump from those calculator watches. [ She smiles in sympathy and gives Max's shoulder a fist-bump. ] But everybody knows kids pick this shit up faster than anybody, you'll be fine. What's your name, anyway? I'm Kelly Ann.

Shit, that's a thing? Do they let people use them in algebra?
[She smiles a little at the introduction and sticks out her hand.]
Max Mayfield.
