Arrival

A shiver of light, a sense of falling, and Avagi's portals have claimed another traveller. For those first stepping out of the Ingress Memorial, Avagi may be rather disorienting, but some areas are quite lively, and there are plenty of places to explore. As newcomers make their way into their new home, they'll encounter new acquaintances and a few pitfalls. Last month's time distortions have settled... for the most part. The strange flickering light atop the Ingress Memorial's central fragment lingers, though, pulsing and shifting in strange, hypnotic patterns. Left to their own devices, a character may stand in place for over a day, entirely unaware of their surroundings or the passage of time. They can be snapped out of the daze... with effort. And in most cases, touch. Over the last few months, Avagi's sudden population has done a good job breaking in old living spaces. Unfortunately, after a century of disrepair, some of those systems have been quietly breaking down. Today? It's the plumbing. The Bar, Bartering Block, and several of the Labs are rapidly imitating a swamp. The Gym has acquired a new pool, and Sanitation is mostly underwater. Residents of the Chemistry and 🙀 housing sectors may need to start putting up sandbags—or bailing their rooms dry. Whether to lend a hand or loot their neighbors, someone's going to need to (dive) get to the bottom of all this. The water spillage is mostly clean, but if conditions persist, that won't last long. While a few (aquatic) species of the local mini-dinos are enjoying the new swimming space just fine, their more feathery compatriots have rapidly gone from bedraggled to soaked... and heading towards hypothermic. The recent spate of exterminations has them warier than usual of humanoid life, but less hostile (or more oblivious) station-dwellers may find a small flock trying to get dry in front of their space heaters—or any sources of potential warmth.

Not to my knowledge, no. I have heard that it's worse in some areas than here, so it's presumably not in "Chemistry".

[Hopefully it has been found by now, or else there's still danger of further flooding.]

[She falls silent for a few moments, considering.]

Well, this area needs to be secured first. [She searches for the area where the bags need to be dropped, and once she finds it, she drops them into place. The Amazon turns, offering another smile.]

I'm Diana, by the way.

[He nods] My thoughts too. [Until the source is found, the damage needs to be mitigated as much as possible.]

Ram. [He smiles back.] Good to meet you, and thank you for your help.

[A slight nod of acknowledgement, and she looks back down the corridor.]

Of course. Are there more bags? If not, there may be more in the gardens.

There are more. I was bringing them in rounds. [He gestures to a few of the other bags in the growing barricade.] You're could probably manage the rest in another trip or two, if that's okay?

[monomachy]

[A bright smile lights her face.]

Yes, of course! Anything I can do to help.

Great, thank you!

[His own smile is grateful and a touch relieved. He starts leading her back to where he had been getting the sandbags.]

So where and when are you from?

[monomachy]

[Her brows raise at how direct the question is, but she's more than happy to answer.]

Themyscira. And the year was 1918 when I left my world. What about you?

[He gives her a reassuring smile. He's not fishing for information, just curious.]

1918? Wow. What was it like? [That's pre-system. In fact, that might be pre-programs at all. He hasn't heard of Themyscira, but the User world is large. He'll look it up.]

ENCOM system, 23570907-82. Which I believe would translate to 1982.

[She thinks for a moment.]

New. For me, at least. Themyscira isn't what one would call modern.

[The first part of his response doesn't make much sense to her, but she at least understands the second part--and a smile lights her face.]

That is quite far in the future.

[He tilts his head at that.]

Is Themyscira isolated then? [Are there many isolated areas in the User world?

He cracks a smile.]

It is. I wonder how many things are the same or have changed.

Very isolated.

[That's what magical shields are for, after all.]

Truthfully, I couldn't tell you. But there is bound to be someone on this station who could.

What was it like coming into the main world? [A User discovering the User world is something he had never considered before.]

I'll have to ask around. There might be information in the library.

[monomachy]

It was... a shock. Some of it was good, some of it was bad. [She'd have enjoyed it more, of course, if there hadn't been a war raging at the time of her arrival.]

There is a particular book, old and well-read, you should look for. It tells the station's history, to a certain point.

Things are never perfect. [Somewhere he hopes Clu felt confronted.] I hope the good outweighed the bad.

Really? I'll look that up, what's it called?
