January Intro Log

Who: New arrivals and old residents
When: January 5 and beyond
Where: Avagi
What: Hello, nice to meet you
Warnings: Label where applicable.

Arrival

A shiver of light, a sense of falling, and Avagi's portals have claimed another traveller. For those first stepping out of the Ingress Memorial, Avagi may be rather disorienting, but some areas are quite lively, and there are plenty of places to explore. As newcomers make their way into their new home, they'll encounter new acquaintances and a few pitfalls.

  • Last month's time distortions have settled... for the most part. The strange flickering light atop the Ingress Memorial's central fragment lingers, though, pulsing and shifting in strange, hypnotic patterns. Left to their own devices, a character may stand in place for over a day, entirely unaware of their surroundings or the passage of time. They can be snapped out of the daze... with effort. And in most cases, touch.

  • Over the last few months, Avagi's sudden population has done a good job breaking in old living spaces. Unfortunately, after a century of disrepair, some of those systems have been quietly breaking down. Today? It's the plumbing. The Bar, Bartering Block, and several of the Labs are rapidly imitating a swamp. The Gym has acquired a new pool, and Sanitation is mostly underwater. Residents of the Chemistry and 🙀 housing sectors may need to start putting up sandbags—or bailing their rooms dry.

Whether to lend a hand or loot their neighbors, someone's going to need to (dive) get to the bottom of all this. The water spillage is mostly clean, but if conditions persist, that won't last long.

  • While a few (aquatic) species of the local mini-dinos are enjoying the new swimming space just fine, their more feathery compatriots have rapidly gone from bedraggled to soaked... and heading towards hypothermic. The recent spate of exterminations has them warier than usual of humanoid life, but less hostile (or more oblivious) station-dwellers may find a small flock trying to get dry in front of their space heaters—or any sources of potential warmth.

Widowmaker understood that sentiment; she wouldn't want to replicate Widow's Kiss in any way. It was her rifle, her signature weapon, and was unique. A copy would just be wrong in her mind.

"You could fabricate the individual pieces if you knew them all and then assemble it, but unless you can build motors and do electrical wiring," which she sincerely doubted, "it wouldn't work. A fabricator does not make machines, just parts."

The Scythe isn't precisely her weapon--well it is, as there are no other Slayers here--but you don't mass-produce Excalibur. That's not what it's for. Buffy doesn't actually know what it's for, what with the infodump getting cut short, but she's sure that's not something to be done with a powerful artifact.

Damn. "There goes one comfort from home." She gives a little sigh. "All right. Low-tech it is, for everything."

"I am sure you can scavenge something suitable from the storage boxes in the Bartering Block; not all of us had overnight bags packed when we were brought here. I recall seeing one or two when I was looking through there." Though whether they were still available was another thing.

"Oui, sacrifices must be made out of necessity, but a beauty regimen is not one I am willing to make. If you cannot find your own, perhaps you and I can come to an arrangement."
theladylazarus: Buffy's slow smile at a vampire in Prophecy Girl. (well now)

Buffy approves of her way of thinking. Beauty's always a high priority, and she'd rather not make any concessions if they aren't strictly required. Being a pretty girl--that's half her identity right there.

"I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the tip. And the offer. I'm Buffy, by the way. Buffy Summers."

Moving from stretching to actual ballet moves to practice, a controlled graceful motion, Widowmaker kept an eye on Buffy via the mirror reflection. She wasn't about to stop her routine without a good reason. Introductions weren't important enough, in her opinion.

"Au chante," she replied. "I am Widowmaker." And then as an afterthought: "If that name bothers you, you may use LaCroix instead."
theladylazarus: Buffy gaze upward and inward (I'm supergirl and I'm here to save the w)

Focus. It's not very warm, but Buffy's not going to object. At least not after being offered help.

"It doesn't." It is weird, if not as much as it would've been before years of Spike being around. More importantly--she hasn't taken French in years. She's not sure she could pronounce the other one. However, bearing in mind that Spike's name had come about for a reason: "Should it?"

"Not unless you are from my world, which I doubt," she replied. Turning with a move, Widowmaker purposefully brushed the long tail if her hair out of the way so Buffy could see the black widow spider tattoo backpiece she had.

"But it is rather self-explanatory." Buffy wasn't a arget, so she had little to worry about from Widowmaker.
