[Side note applying to both prompts: Nova looks a little different from her icons, with a pixie cut, a more wine shade on her lips, and cat eye makeup rather than smokey eyeliner. Not quite Shepard.]

[Nova stares blankly at the board, then at the class materials, then leans over to her nearest classmate (or the teacher??) to confess:] I don't know what this subject even is.

[Once class actually starts, it soon becomes clear that this is not the only thing she doesn't know: She doesn't know where to sit or stand, that one shouldn't interrupt the teacher with incredibly basic questions (or at least that you should put up your hand to do it), in general, how to act in a classrom setting. The etiquette classes on Emiri a lifetime ago (literally, considering she's died since then) had been much more hands on, with more movement and roleplaying; her learning back in the Milky Way had been on her own with neural implants or with one on one tutoring.

[This is, in fact, Nova's first time in school. Once she realizes she's sticking out, she settles for furtive glances around the class to check what they're doing differently.]

Ability Control (both)

[With a practised hand gesture, Nova's hand and the nutrition block she brought along (surprisingly not actually for practice material, but it's there) are wreathed in a glowing blue light, and the nutrition block lifts off the table. She keeps her eyes on it as she explains.]

It's called biotics. Manipulating dark energy to create mass effect fields. You can move something around, or make a lot of small, fast moving mass effect fields to tear it apart. Or if something's already affected by a mass effect field and you apply more biotics to it, you can make it explode.

[She lets the block drop again, her biotics fading, her breath a little labored from the effort of keeping something in midair while also explaining it.]

They're not the only uses, just what I've managed to do after tutoring.

[Now she looks up.] I want to do more.
