On July 9, a demon begins to make its way through the Ingress, summoned through by a shitty teenager.
July 9-12
Harrying
Harrying
It's innocuous in the beginning. A movement in the corner of your eye, a shadow through a curtain-- merely a tree. But then the shadow figures begin to emerge into full being. Black-eyed wraiths that look like enemies, friends with whom you've had past conflict, or even you yourself. At first, it's merely harrying, minor harassment. Threatening gestures, broken gestures, jump scares.
Pursue them, and they disappear-- you might even catch a glimpse of how. They melt down into black slime, racing away across floors, through sewer grates, up walls, impossible to follow. By now, the worst of the climate freeze is over, but residual ice does pose a needles extra obstacle.

July 12-15
The Violence Escalates
The Violence Escalates
In the days that follow, the situation only gets worse.
Sporadic harassment turns into outright attacks. The targeting is unmistakable. The shadow beings who can speak tell cruel tales of animosity, spite, even hatred. They are as deadly with their hands or strange powers as their doppelgangers are, and worse, they're functionally indestructible. Rip off one's head and it merely reforms out of sticky black ink. Limbs regenerate just as easily. The being might dispell for a few hours, but no doubt— it'll be back, if not to hurt you then someone you know.
The Savrii begin to notice. It's hard not to. While there is hardly an epidemic of panic, the disruptions are hard to miss-- broken windows, screams, random violence. Soon, the authorities begin to open safehouse facilities at which characters can seek shelter.

July 15-18
The Golem
The Golem
On July 17, something horrific begins to happen— several shadow beings merge to form a massive golem in Kauto R1. It is a grotesque, horrifying spectacle, of limbs and eyes and pulsating flesh. It reaches almost sixty feet in height. Combined together, this shadow creature is considerably less intelligent than the individual beings were. However, it is also immensely strong and regenerates just like the smaller ones did.
Within the mall, hundreds of daytime shoppers are trapped within. Luckily, they have food and climate control. Perhaps you're one of them-- or perhaps you're trying to get in to provide medical care.
In the meantime, the attacks from the individual shadow beings don't stop. Despite the intelligence exhibited by some, all of them seem mindlessly bent on tormenting their targets until they are killed.

The Sacrifice
The Sacrifice
On the 9th day, a network post goes up (link pending, will be OOCly forward-dated to July 10th latest) revealing how to remove the invincibility of the attackers.
And by the 21st, the remaining beings utterly vanish without explanation— unless you happen to bear witness to the events that take place at St. Monmouth.

"Delta? How's that call going?"
Agent Carolina is not responding.
"Keep trying!"
He scrambles away from the shadow, pulling out his pistol and firing at it, center mass.

"You stay down," he warns it uselessly, getting back to his feet. There must be a way to get out of this.
no subject
"On my way, Delta."
Using the speed unit without Epsilon to help regulate it is risky, she won't be able to run it for long but it's enough time to get her to the location Delta included with his message. Stopping is a bit of an issue but she improvises a braking method. She slams into the reforming shadow, transferring all that built up energy to the impact before skidding to a stop.
"Sorry I'm late."
no subject
York steps in beside Carolina, wishing he had more weapons than knives and his pistol on him but he's out of ammo for the rifle anyway.
"You sure know how to make an entrance." And then, more seriously, "Thanks for coming -- it means business."
no subject
"What's your status? Does it hit as hard as the original?" This isn't her first rodeo with a knock-off version of Tex, and the last time she had to deal with dozens of her. She's pretty sure she can handle one shadow.
no subject
Or rather, it keeps getting back up. Eventually it would have beaten him -- even with Carolina here, he's hoping it just gets tired of the fight. Then he has a thought. His first instinct had been to call Carolina, but maybe that was the wrong tack. Maybe they just needed to keep it busy for awhile.
"Delta, call Tex. The real Tex."
no subject
"You both ruined her chances to rescue him," the shadow eventually yells at them. "That's all she wanted to do, and you failed her."
Meanwhile, Tex receives Delta's message in another part of the city. She texts back a simple response. What do you need?
no subject
He waits for the shadow to strike or flee, it's two on one but it has the advantage that it'll never tire and can't die.
Agents York and Carolina are facing off against an imposter. York is requesting your assistance.
no subject
She looks over at York. "I can probably keep her busy while you take shots with the rifle."

The shadow of Tex, meanwhile, falls into a fighting stance of its own. At the current moment, at the beginning of the standoff, it is indeed Carolina who stands in York's way of getting a good shot off at it.
It's the shadow that makes the first move, running in Carolina's direction.
no subject
He hates that he just has to watch them fight, but there's no one better to face it. Carolina kicks the shadow back eventually and York lands rapid-fire shots straight to its head and chest, a quick hail of bullets so he doesn't waste his ammo on it dissolving and reforming. When he runs out he'll just have to join in.
no subject
"Is that the best you've got?" She calls to the shadow. Come on, get angry. Get sloppy, it'll only make your sloppy. "I guess what they say about copies losing quality is true."
no subject
no subject
"Hold it still!"
no subject
York's shout has her holding still as she can while he kicks it off her. Then she rolls to her feet and pulls out her stun baton.
"Thanks, York."
So what if it was indestructible? Electricity would probably still hurt like a bitch.
no subject
"Once a cheater always a cheater, huh, Carolina?" it taunts.
no subject
"You're the one cheating," he says casually, trying to disguise that he's out of breath. "But that's cool. We can keep this up all day."
no subject
"You're outnumbered right now. How many times do you want to get put down?"
no subject
no subject
"I don't hate her anymore so you can stop any time. Whatever you are... you're not even worth being called her shadow."
