Note to self, don't even jokingly flirt with Bruce. She really didn't mean to make him feel so awkward.
"Okay, let's get me drugged up and out of your hair."
no subject
He's dealt with far more blatant and forward things, from one person on board in particular. Even if jokingly, that had actually stepped onto the realm of uncomfortable. This, though? He doesn't mind so much.
"Let the record state I don't actually mind your company. But some rest would probably do you good. I don't mind it if you want to stay here either, but your bed might be more comfortable."
As he talks, he fetches a small bottle and a syringe, filling it up with a small dose of the analgesic.
no subject
But apparently no harm was done so that's good.
"And you're only saying that because you've never been in my bed."
Which in retrospect was probably an unfortunate phrasing all things considered but how else was she gonna say it? And no, the bed isn't that bad but it's not really much to write home about compared to what she's used to sleeping in either.
no subject
Help, that came out sounding a whole lot different than he meant it to. Pressing his lips tight, he closes his eyes and knits his eyebrows together in a wince, shaking his head a little.
"Sorry. I didn't mean... Wait, I'll try again." Clearing his throat there. "The beds on the Mero deck are actually pretty comfortable."
There, that makes it better, right? Right. He's just... going to focus on disinfecting a patch of her skin, then injecting her with that painkiller. It should take less than a minute to take effect, if that long.
no subject
"It's a mattress on a plank, pretty much. A very fancy looking plank but that doesn't change the lack of springs."
And she wants some springs, damn it.
And Bruce should feel lucky that she didn't say something like "maybe I'll come sleep wih you then" right there.
no subject
More comfortable than springs anyway, if he's to be honest. Besides, better for his back, especially considering how much he tends to hunch.
Pulling the syringe out slowly, he presses a bit of cotton dabbed in disinfectant onto the same spot, gesturing for her free hand to take over.
"Hold it here, I'll get you a bandaid."
no subject
She presses her hand against the cotton wool, hoping that whatever he just gave her will be effective and quick.
"If I say something about kissing it better you'll have a heart attack or something, right?"
Is she maybe trying to fluster him a tiny bit on purpose now? Yes. Because she is in pain and he is pretty entertaining when he starts stumbling all over himself because he doesn't know how to deal.
Yes, she did make a mental note not to make flirty jokes with him but since he actually took it pretty well after the initial fluster before she decides to risk it again because why not. It's just some friendly teasing after all.
no subject
And she is right, it does fluster him a little, again. But this time he does adapt, smiling sheepishly as he steals a glance at her while checking her arm, then replacing the cotton with a bandaid, trying his best to return the teasing with some of his own.
"Oh, I don't know... I think you'd have to buy me dinner first, I'm not that easy."
no subject
"For a little kiss on the arm? Good thing I'm not trying to get a proper kiss here, I might go broke."
no subject
"Well, yes. I'm not some cheap date, sorry to tell you."
no subject
"Good thing I'm rich."
no subject
That's much the reason why he doesn't mind the little exchange, because it's not serious and it does distract from everything that's been going down as of late. Once he's finished patching up the small prick in her skin, he throws the cotton in the trash, smiling up at her.
"How's that? Feeling the effects yet?"
no subject
She smiles back at him and nods a little.
"You have a nice smile."
Oh crap, really? Saying stupid shit because of painkillers? She thought she got away from cliches like that when she quit acting.
"Translation: yep, the meds are kicking in."
no subject
Because he's pretty sure trophy doctors aren't a thing. Trophy Avengers, however...
He smiles at her words again, looking down for a moment, nodding at the explanation that follows suit.
"That's good to know. I mean, that they're kicking in, not that you think I have a nice smile. Though, that's-- that's nice of you to say too. Thanks. You have a very nice smile, too."
Bruce's just tripping all over his own words here.
no subject
She finds that she really is genuinely pleased that he likes her smile. Hm. Might have to keep an eye on this situation so it doesn't turn into something stupid.
She tries to get on her feet, but finds the mission only partially successful since the room starts spinning a little and she has to grab Bruce's shoulder to stop herself from sinking to the floor like some sort of wilting flower.
"You really are a good guy. I'm sorry people don't see that because of... you know."
After Johannesburg even she had been a little unsure what to think, mostly because she didn't really know much about his condition, the lack of control that comes with it. To a lot of people, it probably seems like he just decided to turn on those he is supposed to be protecting.
no subject
He opens his mouth to say something, when she brings up his condition in a roundabout way. His expression tensing a little, he isn't smiling quite as much now, though he does offer a quiet word back to her.
"Thanks."
He really doesn't know if he'd call himself a 'good guy' at this point, honestly. Destroying an entire planet, then two months later finding out that sometime in his future he's going to level an entire city after going on a wild rampage, it doesn't do wonders for the sense of humanity in him.
It's a little like that. Some days he's more of a man, others he feels closer to a monster. Lately the scale has been tipping more towards the latter.
He says nothing more about that, though, nodding to the table that she just got down from.
"Sit back down. We have some medi-gel around, it'll heal your cuts and scrapes in seconds. Then you really need to lie down. Looks like you'll need a hand if you want to go back to your room, though."
no subject
She sits back down with a frustrated huff.
"I can handle it."
No she can't.
no subject
"No, you can't. I'm not calling you weak or anything, but if you go like this on your own, you're going to end up flat on your face on some hallway somewhere. And I really would like it if you managed not to get yourself hurt even more."
There, alright? He cares. Now stop it.
"I'll take you myself, if I have to."
no subject
"If you have to? Wow, way to make a woman feel wanted there, Banner."
She's just teasing him again, but there is a certain stubborn set to her (sore) jaw that means she is still going to try to walk on her own when he's gotten the gel on her.
no subject
And he hears it the moment it's out of his mouth. Wincing, he looks at her with an expression that's partly apologetic and partly embarrassed.
"I mean, to help you back to your bed. No, wait. The-- just to make sure you make it there alright, and I'm just... going to stitch up my mouth now. Sorry."
For now he'll distract himself by opening a jar of the medi-gel and starting to apply it to whatever wounds she has.
no subject
"We're terrible at making conversation with each other."
Actually she thinks they're pretty great at it, but wow.
no subject
"We really are. Maybe we should just stop talking entirely."
no subject
Not that they have talked that much, but he still is pretty much her only friend on board at the moment, and she really does like him.
no subject
Finished with the medi-gel, he puts the lid back on the jar, then goes over to a sink nearby to wash his hands. Her wounds should close in a matter of seconds now, healed completely by the miraculous gel.
"You're all set. You just need some rest now, and possibly do a follow-up in a few days, to make sure your ribs are healing alright."
no subject
She looks down at herself in wonder, completely fascinated by the quick healing process.
"Wow. This is seriously cool."
