"Well, yes. I'm not some cheap date, sorry to tell you."
no subject
"Good thing I'm rich."
no subject
That's much the reason why he doesn't mind the little exchange, because it's not serious and it does distract from everything that's been going down as of late. Once he's finished patching up the small prick in her skin, he throws the cotton in the trash, smiling up at her.
"How's that? Feeling the effects yet?"
no subject
She smiles back at him and nods a little.
"You have a nice smile."
Oh crap, really? Saying stupid shit because of painkillers? She thought she got away from cliches like that when she quit acting.
"Translation: yep, the meds are kicking in."
no subject
Because he's pretty sure trophy doctors aren't a thing. Trophy Avengers, however...
He smiles at her words again, looking down for a moment, nodding at the explanation that follows suit.
"That's good to know. I mean, that they're kicking in, not that you think I have a nice smile. Though, that's-- that's nice of you to say too. Thanks. You have a very nice smile, too."
Bruce's just tripping all over his own words here.
no subject
She finds that she really is genuinely pleased that he likes her smile. Hm. Might have to keep an eye on this situation so it doesn't turn into something stupid.
She tries to get on her feet, but finds the mission only partially successful since the room starts spinning a little and she has to grab Bruce's shoulder to stop herself from sinking to the floor like some sort of wilting flower.
"You really are a good guy. I'm sorry people don't see that because of... you know."
After Johannesburg even she had been a little unsure what to think, mostly because she didn't really know much about his condition, the lack of control that comes with it. To a lot of people, it probably seems like he just decided to turn on those he is supposed to be protecting.
no subject
He opens his mouth to say something, when she brings up his condition in a roundabout way. His expression tensing a little, he isn't smiling quite as much now, though he does offer a quiet word back to her.
"Thanks."
He really doesn't know if he'd call himself a 'good guy' at this point, honestly. Destroying an entire planet, then two months later finding out that sometime in his future he's going to level an entire city after going on a wild rampage, it doesn't do wonders for the sense of humanity in him.
It's a little like that. Some days he's more of a man, others he feels closer to a monster. Lately the scale has been tipping more towards the latter.
He says nothing more about that, though, nodding to the table that she just got down from.
"Sit back down. We have some medi-gel around, it'll heal your cuts and scrapes in seconds. Then you really need to lie down. Looks like you'll need a hand if you want to go back to your room, though."
no subject
She sits back down with a frustrated huff.
"I can handle it."
No she can't.
no subject
"No, you can't. I'm not calling you weak or anything, but if you go like this on your own, you're going to end up flat on your face on some hallway somewhere. And I really would like it if you managed not to get yourself hurt even more."
There, alright? He cares. Now stop it.
"I'll take you myself, if I have to."
no subject
"If you have to? Wow, way to make a woman feel wanted there, Banner."
She's just teasing him again, but there is a certain stubborn set to her (sore) jaw that means she is still going to try to walk on her own when he's gotten the gel on her.
no subject
And he hears it the moment it's out of his mouth. Wincing, he looks at her with an expression that's partly apologetic and partly embarrassed.
"I mean, to help you back to your bed. No, wait. The-- just to make sure you make it there alright, and I'm just... going to stitch up my mouth now. Sorry."
For now he'll distract himself by opening a jar of the medi-gel and starting to apply it to whatever wounds she has.
no subject
"We're terrible at making conversation with each other."
Actually she thinks they're pretty great at it, but wow.
no subject
"We really are. Maybe we should just stop talking entirely."
no subject
Not that they have talked that much, but he still is pretty much her only friend on board at the moment, and she really does like him.
no subject
Finished with the medi-gel, he puts the lid back on the jar, then goes over to a sink nearby to wash his hands. Her wounds should close in a matter of seconds now, healed completely by the miraculous gel.
"You're all set. You just need some rest now, and possibly do a follow-up in a few days, to make sure your ribs are healing alright."
no subject
She looks down at herself in wonder, completely fascinated by the quick healing process.
"Wow. This is seriously cool."
no subject
He looks down at her wounds too, the skin quickly closing up and the reddened marks disappearing, leaving it looking just as before.
"You're telling me. I'm definitely going to take a closer look into this gel once everything settles down. It's amazing."
no subject
Time for take two of groggily trying to stand up in spite of being kinda drugged and also still pretty banged up.
It goes as expected, as in she starts to fall again. What the hell is wrong with her sense of balance right now?
no subject
"Can we just agree that you do need some help to get back to your room? Please. Let me help you."
no subject
For a couple of seconds that's really all she's got while she leans against Bruce and tries to figure out this whole standing up thing.
"Okay. I'm agreeing."
no subject
He gestures at someone in the staff to let them know he's leaving for a moment, then he starts leading them out the medbay, a hand resting around her back, fully expecting her to try and walk on her own - and fully expecting her not to manage.
no subject
Naturally she does also fail, and with a resigned sigh she leans against Bruce and wraps her arm around his shoulders.
"God damnit."
no subject
"Look on the bright side: at least you're no longer in pain."
no subject
She leans against Bruce, some of the fight going out of her because at this point she might as well just let him support her.
no subject
The whole point was for her not to hurt, after all. Slowly, he carries her down the long hallways, finally reaching the lift and stepping inside to take her up to her quarters.
"Remind me what deck you're on?"
