nerds save the world
"Help us. Before it is too late."
Those who come will have the run of the complex and full access to the Ingress, as well as whatever tools are available and as much coffee as they can drink. People are encouraged to work in groups and share ideas, and a small number of young and nervous technical assistants will be on hand.
the land below
As Thisavrou is denied light and warmth, the weather becomes brisk and descends into bitter cold. Chioni is evacuated due to the effects on the already-harsh weather cycles there, although a skeleton crew of scientists remain behind. On Kauto, the arboreal Region Three and pastoral Region Two suffer the most from the temperatures and the snow that eventually begins to fall. Many crops are frozen over, and refugee citizens are driven from their homes to the Regions One and Five, where stored energy will keep dwellings warm. Save for those who choose to leave the underwater facilities, Region Four remains largely unchanged, but there are unverified accounts of strange aquatic animal behavior near the surface.
Overcrowding, limited supplies and a pervasive fear presents the opportunity for both heroism and foul deeds. Many come together to share resources, supplies and fellowship in what could be the end of worlds, while others take what they can from the unwilling or exploit the desperate. Sentient evacuees are followed by fauna from Region Three and unsettled lands beyond, in search of warmth or food or merely confused by the change in habitat. Some are unthreatening herbivores, while tanglesnakes and clownbees are more troublesome. Others are poisonous hunters, while still others are small, but dangerous when faced as a pack.
Just when all seems lost, light returns to the sky. The Ingress begins to function once more.
the coming days
As the temperatures rise, many demand answers, but most turn to the rebuilding of their lives first. Damage has been done that isn't so easily fixed, and even in the least-affected areas, remnants of the crisis show in the lack of fresh food, in the increased signs of criminal activity. Those who can help others through their own efforts of by organizing assistance are needed, but those with impure intentions are more likely to go unnoticed.
Eavesdropping on the streets may reveal a desire for vengeance. "Those intruders from last week. They're responsible for this, aren't they? What's being done?" But don't listen too closely, or a suspicious eye may be turned on you. "Aren't you one of the refugees from the Midway Hub? You should return to where you came from! All the trouble began when your people showed up!"
Life goes on. But life does not go on unchanged.
[quick ooc note: the Region 4 search & retrieval mission/RNG fight will be posted in a separate log.]

[Because they do have a habit of meeting when one or the other is being attacked by somethig or someone, don't they?
Dorian's personal philosophy in dealing with the Savrii given the present claimate was they were going to attack them anyway and they already have attacked them. Dorian could either hold back and let them beat him into a coma, not going to happen, as a means to preserve the fragile relationship between the Savrii and his own...or he could use force and fight back so that he would be able to stand and fight for those who were having difficulty defending themselves.
Either way people were going to get hurt, it mattered little what he did and didn't do.]
I suppose next time I'll just have to open with magic, maybe something a bit more exciting, so it will stick in their memory. This was a formality...a kindness. I'm not always a good man.
[And he had no intention of offering them a second chance if they came back for more.]
If it's your assistance then I'll gladly accept it.
[At which point he'll lead Saren out of the cold and into his apothecary. Granted nothing in his shop is powered by modern means so he has to magically light the candles and start a roaring fire in the fireplace so it will take a few moments for the chill to dissolve into warmth. For now he's free to look around the apothecary. The leather bound, hand written books, the potions glowing behind their glass encasement, skin and hair care products, magical artifacts all scattered about to look, hold, and in some cases even buy.]
What do you know of injuries, I mean aside from being the delightful cause of many?

I am sure you will get the opportunity to. They seem more brutish than they do intelligent, and humans such as that rarely seem to know when to back down if they think they can gain something. Clearly, they thought you had something worth their while here.
[ Fortunately, Saren himself has only had a scuffles with the locals. Though he had good reason to kill the humans participating in these mobs if he wanted to, he managed to end what interactions he had them with no permanent damage done. He was not too interested in discovering what happened when you killed someone in this universe. ]
If you mean what do I know of injuries in regards to your species, most of what I know is from being the delightful cause of many.
[ He understood the basics of human anatomy, how to efficiently cause damage and how to fix them up, because the best torture was prolonged torture and humans were notoriously squishy. Still, Saren was hardly the best source to turn to for medical aid. ]
Fortunately, I have medigel with me, so what I know is irrelevant. You'll hardly bleed to death on your carpet.
[ Saren turned away from the product in Dorian's store, eyeing the stain on his uniform. ]

Grenades. [Dorian said gesturing to the glass case on the opposite wall.] Antivan Fire is particularly nasty, I'm debating what I should do here...destroy the more dangerous potions in my collection, things that could potentially be used to hurt our own.
[By their own Dorian meant their side as opposed to the Savrii, and right now anyone who wasn't the Savrii he considered his own.]
That's what I like about you, not afraid to go to dark places, but even that is probably more than I know regarding bodily injuries, other than it twinges a little bit.
[Because Dorian is hardly a healer, he can make potions, but he's reluctant to use them just yet, not without properly attending to the injury first and since Saren had so generously offered his assistance, who was he to turn it down?]
Medigel? What does it do exactly, this Medigel?
[Not that Dorian wasn't an eager recipient of any sort of remedy, but he was naturally curious. He was carefully starting to removed his armor given that he, too, had to look at the extent of his injury. He didn't feel like he was going to bleed out, but it still hurt quite a bit and the mage was not fond of pain in any capacity.]

That would be a waste, wouldn't it? There's no telling if it won't be needed later.
[ Saren could always appreciate a good explosive, provided it did not come from enemy hands. ]
It is an anesthetic, which will numb the pain and seal the wound enough to prevent infection. I would recommend you not rely on only it, however, since its healing properties are minor. It will save you from wasting one of your potions, which you can consider a favor returned.
[ And Saren did not like owing anyone anything, especially not a human, regardless of who it was. ]
no subject
Not a terrible point, I'll give you that, but keeping them here would be an open invitation. They won't stop trying to break into this place [stripping out of his final layers Dorian examined his injury, but he was still focusing on Saren] you wouldn't have a productive use for them would you? I don't want to make you a target either, but if you have a safer location or know of a place where you could keep them then they're yours.
[To spare Saren, Dorian left out that he would be doing the mage a favor.]
That does sound useful if you wouldn't mind sparing one until I have the opportunity to seek out a medic.
[And the idea of an anesthetic sounded very nice.]

[ Given that the human didn't know his character that well, and he'd made his prejudice against his species adamantly clear. ]
I have enough to spare, or I wouldn't have made the suggestion.
[ Saren grunted, mandibles flickering as he turned his attention away from displays. He brought out a vial of medi-gel and after he examined Dorian's knife wound, he started to spread it over. Once he was done, Saren looked up. ]
That should be enough. Do you have anything to cover it with?
no subject
[Though Dorian couldn't help but wonder if his charm was working on some level, Saren was here, he was offering him some of his medi-gel. If he was so prejudice he wouldn't really be offering to help and Dorian didn't doubt the prejudice, but perhaps he made his own distinct impression.
Or perhaps it simply suited his companion.
Either way it was a continued surprise that his companion continued to go out of his way by applying the gel. He could have thrust it in Dorian's hands and let him tend to his own wounds, though he didn't, it was...strange, ot unwelcome though.]
I might have something to wrap it.
[Dorian was careful as he moved to rummage through a few drawers until he came across something that resembled something between gauze and cheese cloth.]
If you know someone who would appreciate them then I'll get them packed up for you.

We do keep "mingling", but it is, as you say, for practicality...and I suppose you're tolerable enough.
[ That was a compliment as far as Saren was concerned. ]
Better to preserve a viable resource than to unnecessarily discard it.
[ Saren inclined his head in appreciation. ]
I'll leave you the rest of the vial. Perhaps it'll be useful to you somehow.
[ That was about the extent his helpfulness went. ]
