a lot to catch up on
Who: Nathan Drake, Sam Drake and Elena Fisher
When: Recently after Sam's arrival
Where: At home
What: Post-reunion gab and getting-to-know-you
[It's a good thing the house is big enough that no one else who lives in it is likely to be kept up by hours of chatter. Nate is dimly aware that it's late, judging by the darkness outside and the number of empty beer bottles on the kitchen table (not a lot, but there's a small pile), but he also doesn't care. He and Sam have more than twelve years to catch up on, and that doesn't even touch on the reminiscing that inevitably gets started. Sam's theoretically sleeping on the couch until he gets his own place, but tonight at least, sleep seems a long way off.
Nate doesn't care. He's got his brother back. Sleep can wait.]
...and then the guy staggered out into the street without his pants or anything underneath.

Sam laughs, eyes wide as he leans forward, hands wrapped around the base of a half drunken beer bottle in front of him.]
Hooly shit, are you serious? Nothing at all? You certainly got more than what you paid for, huh?
[He laughs again, taking a sip with a small shake of his head.]
Jesus. I mean imagine being that guy and coming home to your wife or something? How do you even explain something like that?
no subject
Even before she's got the front door unlocked, she's already pulling off her shoes. They get dumped by the entrance once she's inside, socks tugged off. Barefoot is the way to go. ]
Oh. You boys are still up.
[ Somehow she's not surprised, getting into the kitchen while hopping on one foot, yanking off a sock, to find them there with the bottles. But it's too good to see a different sort of relaxed and happy on her husband's face.
...weeks now, Sam's been here, and she's still trying to see the resemblance. ]
no subject
Hey, honey.
[He already has the next beer queued up, so he cracks it open and offers it to her instead. Clearly, she should join them.]
Well, you know. Got a lot to catch up on, a lot of stories to tell. Boy talk.
no subject
Yeah, gotta make sure you guys are living up to your reputations out here in space and all.
[He gestures to the empty chair.]
Come on, have a seat, take a load off. Nathan was just telling me about some of the locals he's run into around here.
[He looks around for a clock to see what time it is.]
Jesus, they keep you there late. You guys have some crazy alien mishap or something?
no subject
[ She's paused near the open chair, looking to the clock and then to the beer Nate's offering. ]
You think that's such a good idea?
[ Fine, she'll take it. She won't ever say no to a beer after a long shift and then endless counting on top of it. ]
What's the next story in line?
no subject
Well, sometimes.]
You're here now, maybe you should tell one. Or give a different perspective on one he's heard. [Nate grins.] Like when this really handsome guy conned you into funding an expedition to haul up Sir Francis Drake's coffin from the bottom of the sea.
no subject
[Although he'a not entirely serious if that amused grin is anything to go by. He takes another sip.]
Besides, pretty sure you're the one who got conned here, little brother.
[How else do you explain ELENA sticking around for so long?]
no subject
See? See, he gets it.
[ And then to her husband: ]
This is what I've been trying to tell you since before Shambhala.
no subject
[Which one of them does he mean? Who knows?]
I did the conning, all right. I got the coffin and the girl, so it was definitely me.
[He definitely got the better end of the bargain.]
Also, the making out was after the jungle.
[But not long after.]
no subject
I don't know. Journalist turned doctor out here, all evidence on video tapes apparently destroyed? Coffin and the guy?
[He shrugs]
Sounds like a pretty good set up to me.
no subject
[ She shoots Nate a look. But to give him credit, he'd been the one to save her. ]
Speaking of doctoring, how are your stitches doing?
no subject
[Boy, had he. Back then, he'd liked Elena, would have felt horribly guilty and haunted if she'd fallen, but he had no clue how much she'd change his life.]
Yeah, Sam, need her to take another pass at them? Might wanna get that done before she has her beer. [Ha, ha, very funny.] What were those from, anyway?
[Related to chasing after Avery, he assumes, but that's pretty vague.]
no subject
[It's easier to joke about the Descendants when you haven't experienced them for yourself. Honestly, Sam would like to keep it that way too. He shifts in his seat at the mention of the stitches though.]
Strangest thing, actually. Turns out part of the island we were on was cursed, right? And the skeletons that were on it came back to life. Got into a sword fight with this centuries old pirate. Got me as soon as I landed the finishing blow. And I was saving your life too.
[He gestures to Nathan with his bottle before taking a longer sip from his beer. It could happen.]
no subject
Hearing Sam retell some of the adventure, she's back to looking at him. ]
Now there's something you never hear every day. Nathan Drake in trouble and needing saving.
no subject
Are you kidding me? You've seen some of the situations I've been in—both of you have. I'm not too proud to accept help.
[Not when it's someone he cares about as much as his wife and brother, anyway. Nate grins, utterly content. Too many years were lost, too many memories they didn't all share, but this is how it's supposed to be. They'll have plenty of time to make new memories as family once Sam is safe.]
no subject
Yeah, and not just from dangerous situations, either. I mean, the amount of times I had to rescue him from embarrassment? [He exhales heavily, like it's the most dramatic thing ever.] He ever tell you about the time he accidentally hit on a mark while he was learning Spanish? Let me tell you, the guy was not amused.
no subject
[ She looks on in Nate's direction, amused. ]
Really? I find that hard to believe. I actually had the opportunity of meeting...
[ Elena trails off here; how can she explain the weird time swap they'd gone through? ]
Anyway, what I meant to say was that that sounds just like Nate.
no subject
Oh, thanks. Glad to know how you really see me.
[Grumble grumble grumble.]
I'm going to regret letting you two talk. You both know too much.
no subject
[He gives Elena a grin, taking another sip.]
You were saying something about meeting someone here? Anyone interesting I should know about? Unless it's some big wife-husband secret or something.
no subject
I wouldn't call it a secret. It's more like I don't know how to explain it. There was just a...break in time.
[ A break sounds like a good way to explain it. ]
What was it..? [ Elena looks over to Nate then. ] He was...babyface? Young. Made me feel like I was the one robbing the cradle.
no subject
[Ha, ha. He was anything but. Nate takes another drink and nods at Sam.]
Back on the ship, there was this whole rift in time thing—made it like the Ingress had pulled people from different times. Not like with kid me, there weren't duplicates—we were just temporarily younger or older. [His expression shifts to something almost wistful and almost apologetic.] Turned me back to Panama, actually.
no subject
[He chuckles, trying to alleviate the tension from the mention of Panama. The change in Nate's expression doesn't go unnoticed, and Sam looks at him for a second longer before turning his attention back to Elena.]
So, what was it like? Seeing my brother all young and baby faced? What'd you do?
no subject
[ Elena sips at the question, tries not to choke and spit out her beer at the third one. There's some clearing of the throat to be done before she answers, as camera straight face as she can. ]
I sat on his face. What else was I supposed to do with him?
no subject
Elena! [Hack hack cough hack] Okay, uh, I don't think that's what he meant.
[Also, it had really been the other way around.]
no subject
Just give him a moment he has to regain his composure.]
Hooly shit. [Hack hack cough hack] Yeah, that was...definitely not what I meant. What happens between a man and his wife, especially when he's my younger brother, can stay in the bedroom. Or...y'know wherever.
[QUICK CHANGE THE SUBJECT]
You guys uh--have a no smoking rule in here?
[He asks as he rummages for his cigarettes in his pocket.]
no subject
Just for the record, he went first. Then I sat on his face.
[ Elena leans back in the chair and waves away the no smoking rule. ]
Smoke away. Wait, let me turn on the fan.
[ Hopping up, reaching on tiptoes, she gets the overhead ceiling fan started. ]
no subject
Okay, change of subject!
[He can tell that he's a little pink, which was probably her aim. And...he's not even sure what to talk about now.]
Jesus. I'm starting to rethink introducing you two back home. I'm not sure I can take it.
no subject
Tell me about it. Should I leave you two alone to get down to it?
[HE'S KIDDING PLEASE DON'T ACTUALLY START MAKING OUT IN FRONT OF HIM.
Cigarette between his fingers, he takes another sip from his beer to help stop the remnants of coughing.]
All right, so...new planets, new terrain...find any hidden space pirate treasures around here yet?
no subject
[ She can't help but reach over as she's sitting back down, a leg folded under her, giving Nate's cheek a pinch and tug. What a cute husband. ]
All pink. It's a nice color on you.
[ Time to get back to her beer. ]
And no no, that will come later.
But treasure, right. Treasure. Not really, not that we've been...looking for it.
no subject
I don't know if there is much treasure on any of the planets we've gotten to explore yet. Hasn't made it less fun, though.
[Treasure is a sensitive subject around their house, but he's not bothered by the lack of it. Nate grins.]
Sometimes deciding where to go look gives me decision paralysis. We'll have to go out and see the space sights once you're settled in.
