Who: Declan & St. Monmouth folks, or anyone.
When: late March
Where: St. Monmouth
What: Declan realizes that even running away to another planet doesn't solve any of his problems.
Warnings: language. will update as threads progress
[Monmouth looks so peaceful this late at night. The firelights, the dream trees, the flowers that always seem to glow. They all lend an air of magic to the whole place and all Declan can think about is that none of it is really worth it. None of anything their father had was worth it, and now it's all rushing in and catching up to Ronan as well.
The last thing Declan feels is peaceful. Back in Virginia he could manage it all, it was his life's work. But here? He doesn't know if even God himself could get rid of these demons.
Sitting on the front steps of his newly dreamt up house, rubbing at the fresh bruise along his jaw, he is thankful for one thing, at least: the never ending alcohol in this dreamt up flask.]
closed to Gansey
[Declan gives himself a day, because even he has to regroup sometimes and this one's a doozy. If there was something immediate he could do, he'd already be doing it, but demons aren't part of his expertise. Maybe he should have paid better attention in Church. Maybe that's what he needs right now, too.
But other than church, there's Richard Gansey, who always seems to be able to help when Declan can't quite get there. Declan has always been grateful even if it's less than apparent and he knows Gansey must respect him as well, at least for the most part.
After they fought (the briefest of fights, Gansey might actually be proud, only Declan's face showing any signs that one even took place), Ronan filled him in on whatever he could, but he told Declan to ask Gansey the rest. That Gansey was there at the end. The end. Matthew and Ronan coming undone. He isn't ready to hear the rest of this, but he knows he has to be if he wants to figure out what to do about it. Knocking on Gansey's door, he waits for a reply. ]
(lmk if there's anything else you'd like to do that doesn't fit into this scenario, i'm open!)

He has his TAB on the table, scrolling through random news stories and nothing in particular catching his interest. He's not expecting anyone to talk to him. He's not been completely avoidant but he's not been going out of his way to talk to anyone lately either. ]

Things have been tumultuous the past few days, but Declan knows he has to eat, he has to keep himself together. That's what he does.
He hasn't figured out what he wants his food situation at his place to be yet anyway, but there seems to be an endless flow of pizza at Monmouth, so he heads to the kitchen as well, slowing when he sees Adam sitting at the table, not sure if he wants to disturb him.
Adam doesn't seem to be that focused on what he's reading though, so Declan grabs a slice of pizza and comes over]
Do you mind if I sit?
no subject
He's just hesitant. Gunshy. ]
Go ahead.
[ Declan's just sitting right? Not like he has to make conversation. He flicks to the next screen having not read a word on the previous. ]
no subject
With Adam's okay, Declan joins him at the table, taking a bite of his slice]
What are you reading?
no subject
Just looking for interesting articles. [He shrugs, drinking from his soda and sparing Declan a bit of a longer glance. He's still not sure where they stand. He feels awkward and every bit not worthy of Ronan whenever he's around his brothers.]
no subject
I haven't even attempted to read any on that thing yet.
[He nods his head toward the TAB]
But I have to admit, I could use an article or two. I really miss having a newspaper in the morning, or watching MSNBC. Do they even have anything like that here?
[Alien politics, he's not sure he'd really be into that. Then again, maybe it's even better here than back on their planet. Not hard to imagine at this point]
no subject
[At least not here, back home he did when he had the spare time which wasn't often at all... And he didn't have a TV which complicated things.]
Mostly just look at scientific shit, I guess.
no subject
[Declan doesn't really think about if Adam had a TV or not. He doesn't know Adam that well, though he's heard things here and there, but still. It's not enough to put a whole picture in his head]
Does this place have five moons, or creatures with multiple heads?
no subject
[ In all honesty, perhaps, Adam hadn't had a clear plan after college. The plan was to get out, to make a living to be successful. Political? Businessman? It hadn't particularly mattered to him which way it happened. Now he's not sure that being so open ended on the functional part of his goals isn't the best way to approach anything.
It doesn't matter now anyway. ]
Something like that. There's weird shit for everyone to enjoy or fear.
no subject
[This is some real world shit he can focus on, even if it's pointless here. The reality of that hasn't yet sunk in just yet, he's had a lot of other things on his mind]
Sounds interesting, actually. Maybe I'll glance at it. How do I...
[He starts, pulling his TAB out and sliding his chair closer to Adam]
no subject
But then again, his main worry -- money -- isn't completely an issue here and neither is time aside from the time clicking down to figuring out how to save Ronan. ]
Oh.
[ It's not hard really so when declan is closer and the TAB is out, he points at the place to press to get to more options/applications. It's all conveniently alphabetical of course, though, much like smartphones from home which he'd never had. It'd taken him a bit to get used to a TAB actually. ]
You just go to News and there's all sorts of things in there. I mostly stay in the science section like i said.
no subject
This is great. I love this thing. Haven't had a chance to check it all out yet. A lot of the people I usually talk to are suddenly in very close proximity.
[He laughs softly, then follows what Adam says and finds the science section]
Lot more than I thought there would be. Who puts all these articles out?
no subject
I don't know. There's a whole research center and stuff around... and like a planet that seems more inclined to that stuff. [ He's not really been paying attention to who is writing the articles but perhaps he should be. ]
no subject
[The good ones, he hopes. Not some shithead like Greenmantle. ]
Alien journalism and research? Sounds interesting. Have you ventured out to any of the other planets?
no subject
That's neither here nor there he supposes and pushes the thoughts away. ]
Went to one with Ronan a while ago.
no subject
Oh yeah? What did you see there?
no subject
But he doesn't talk about that part of Deslora. ]
It was like a carnival shit or something. There was mazes and lots of cool food... Like weird games and stuff.
[ He hasn't traveled all that much since Ronan doesn't like to really go anywhere. ]
no subject
Declan does catch the look, tilting his head just slightly. He wonders how Ronan and Adam are doing with each other, because that's what the look means to him more than anything else]
Really? I should take Matthew that way, he'd probably like it. You and Ronan played carnival games?
no subject
His brows furrow at the mention of taking Matthew. ]
It's definitely not a place you'd want to take Matthew.
no subject
What's wrong with mazes and cool food? What else is over there?
no subject
What could be wrong with taking things out of dreams?
[ A rhetorical question but it should get the point across. ]
no subject
Well for one, that's a planet, not a person. Or people. Sounded like you had a pretty good time there with Ronan, unless I'm mistaken. There's plenty wrong with taking things out of dreams, but that's because I know all about it. You can tell me more about this planet and carnival if you'd like.
no subject
[ Adam doesn't want to talk about it because in truth the most identifying memory that prevails is the memory of his father being a violent shit fuck and well... it hadn't been pretty. ]
no subject
[Declan gives a nod. He won't push it. He knows he already pushed Adam too far when they spoke the last time]
Is there any place you would recommend I take him? We're going to need to explore sometime soon.
