A million names but only one truth to face [ OPEN ]
Who: Adrien and OPEN
When: Month of October
Where: MedBay (of course) | Training room | Mini Colony
What: Various prompts and OPEN to setting up different scenarios
Warnings: Cranky doctor scaring med techs? idk nothing for now, will warn in comments in necessary.
A - Medbay
[ Though Adrien spent time down on the Mini-Colony, he devoted equal time to his duties aboard the Moira; specifically in MedBay.
It could be argued that some of the MedBay techs might wish he spent more time down on the Mini-Colony.
Because, though Adrien had settled a little bit in the wake of the year long, party planet reveal, his temper was still dodgy and the smallest things could seem major when they rubbed on raw nerves. Such as a bit of a kerfluffle around inventory counts.
Though the doctor didn't yell. He had a way of staring down med techs that left them scurrying off to quickly re-verify their counts or otherwise correct their mistakes. It was possible that any arriving patients or other co-workers would catch him in the midst of such a stare down.
Another option was to catch him elbows deep in the Medbay equipment. While repairs to the ship had seen to much of the major equipment in MedBay, there were still very delicate medical devices that required some fine tuning. He usually waited until the late shift hours, when MedBay was mostly quiet to go scooting under or diving into various bits of technology.
But, of course, MedBay never closed it's doors so it was always possible that someone would catch him, stuck under a diagnostic machine or two. ]
B - Training Room
[ A year.
A fucking year.
Though it was hard to exactly measure how time had passed and while Adrien realized his fitness levels were still where he expected them to be, there was a psychological component to the idea that sent a chill down his spine. It drove him into the training room with dual purposes; fitness and sparring.
For fitness the doctor drove himself through a brutal regime of cardio, muscle endurance and swimming. From classic calisthenics (push-ups, sit-ups, planks, etc), to bag work, to swimming and obstacle courses run in full kit, the workout was not for the faint of heart. In fact there were more than a few times, when at the end of it, Adrien ended up prone on the ground cursing himself.
Sparring was another matter all together. The doctor had built himself a program that utilized the training simulation room's highest functionality. He had a wide variety of settings but kept to one primary opponent. Androgynous humanoid figure, capable of flight and wickedly resistant to damage. They attacked in groups and it was impossible to get them down and keep them down with anything less than decapitation.
Anyone who walked in on these training sessions would find the doctor and his bahari companion, usually in desperate matches against multiple figures, never less than two at a time and sometimes as many as four or six. Though he had the handgun on him, Adrien did not use live fire in these bouts. Instead the gun was used more in resourceful measures, often in conjunction with the large knife the doctor had brought with him and Courser's wicked claws and teeth.
Usually, Adrien and Courser fought these simulations until they were overwhelmed by the numbers. If, on the off chance, he actually won? The doctor looked perturbed and sharply reset the program, upping the difficulty.
This program was designed to leverage hand to hand combat at it's highest level. The challenge not just physical but also mental as survival against these opponents was not just about who could hit hardest, but strategy to utilize all available terrain and resources to prevail. As a result it was not uncommon to find Adrien sporting more than a few lacerations and contusions as a result of these sessions. ]
C - MiniColony!
[ When the doctor was not terrorizing med techs, treating patients or trying to become one himself, he made it down to the Mini-Colony.
There were quite a few areas of interest, including but not limited too, a building where he made an introduction and earned himself a favor as well as the A.S.I. (Aeronautical Study Institute) and local hospital. The shop, with the puzzles was also a draw and the doctor could be found in there, waffling over which puzzle he wanted to purchase.
At least once, he might be found, literally sitting on the floor of the store surrounded by puzzles. Most of them were of the solitary variety, meant to test logic and reasoning skills though a couple also held creative and artistic components. For a man courting his forties, he looked like an over grown child trying to pick just one when he obviously wanted to take them all. ]
D - Wildcard!
[ I am open to any and all ideas and scenarios, just throw them at me! ]

D - Training room for PT
By now, she has progressed from a walker to a cane, and has been doing her resistance band and swimming exercises daily. Hopefully the result of this session would be that she would be given permission to resume strength training with weights, and perhaps even gentle cardio. She entered the facility, expecting to see Adrien taking the time he had spent waiting on her to do his own exercises—that would be just like him. ]

The doctor was engaged in an intense bout of heavy bag work, alternating punches and strikes from his upper body and kicks with his legs. It was rapid fire, pushing both sped and strike intensity and even combining a dual foot kick with a bounce back into a shoulder diving roll, only to come up and meet the swinging bag with his fists.
Timing, strength and speed were utilized to their utmost intensity as it would be extremely unpleasant were he unprepared to catch the bag on it's back swing. However, despite his focus, when Courser stood up, head facing towards the door where Tex had just walked in, the doctor bounced back and turned, taped hands dropping to his hips. ]
Hey? [ He puffed out and it might be more than a little annoying that for all his recent activity, he was not impossibly winded. Glancing down at his MID, he gave a small nod as he checked the hour. ] Why am I not surprised you are exactly on time.

[ At least not now that she was doing better. She had learned to time things better since she'd been forced to slow down so much. She continued to make her way across the gym floor over to face Adrien. ]

Speaking of Adrien, Hawke hasn't seen him (probably because he's under some medical equipment), so she's just going to tend to things herself. Things being the injuries she sustained while in the murder dome both from attacks and self inflicted.
Patching up her collar bone and left arm were easy enough. Getting to the wound on the back of her hip is a little harder. Which the predicament Adrien would probably find her in: shirt off, wincing as she twists to the side trying to patch up a wound where she can't see half of it properly with only one arm in decent shape. Hence all the grumbling and cussing her under her breath.]

The bahari watched her move quietly through Medbay, attentive eyes tracking the fact that none of the regular people came over to interact with her. Eventually, he got to his feet and padded silently over to where his companion was, in fact, stuffed under a piece of equipment.
Leaning down, the tracker grabbed at Adrien's pant leg and yanked.
The ensuing thud as his head hit the bottom of a piece of equipment and vigorous cursing, was most definitely not under his breath. ]
Courser! The fuck is your ... [ there was a pause as Adrien identified legs under an exam table and then dragged himself up to peer over the edge of the exam table. Still on his knees, he blinked at Hawke. ]
What, are you doing?

Someday, they'll all look back on this and laugh. Maybe.]

He walks into the medbay with his arm clutched to his chest, 'bandaged' in the bloody remains of a t-shirt he may or may not have stolen. It's late enough that he has to wander a bit trying to find someone and when he does it's just a pair of legs sticking out from under some beeping box. He scuffs his sneaker against the floor loudly to announce his presence.]
I really hope someone didn't die under there. Finding a dead body would really put a damper on today.
no subject
The scuff of a sneaker did catch his attention but at the same time, when Peter actually spoke to him, the doctor still jerked upwards and smacked into the equipment he was working on. ]
Ow! Fuck!
[ Always such a calm, compassionate greeting to Medbay.
Wriggling out from beneath the equipment, he blinked up at Peter, dark brows knitting together. This time, however, his tone was a little more reasonable as he inquired.]
What in the fuck did you do to yourself?
no subject
Are doctors allowed to curse that much?
[He leans down, taking a second to check that Adrien hadn't actually hurt himself. He lifts his arm a little, hissing under his breath at the movement.]
This was for a good reason, I promise. And it's not even bleeding that much anymore. I just thought it might need, like, bandages or something. I don't know, I'm not a doctor.

[The agreement is easy to come to. Niko has spoken to Adrien candidly about plots before, about the damnation they'd faced under other circumstances. Playing along is even easier. Once they are inside their respective establishments? It was even easier for him. Obviously he was irritated when he was told he couldn't leave until he did some work. Isn't that the story of his life? But thankfully, that experience made him accepting of his situation and simple to navigate. He went to work, and while it was all within the building, each excercise was as unpleasant as the rest. But it could be worse. Oh hell, did he know how much worse it could be.]
[But he finds out some useful things. Most of them about the slaver, Ela Monteal (his own experiences with a certain Ray Bulgarin have taught him not to provoke people that are well-versed in selling people they don't care about for whatever they see fit). But he learns. He keeps it in his head, because he's still fucking pissed about what happened to Tali. Something he couldn't do anything about.]
[Adrien can probably do more with this than he can.]
[It takes him longer than he expected to get around to finding him once he's out of the building. A lot of people asking him for a lot of things in a shitty place, and being an only marginally shitty person he has to help a few of them out. Adrien is a less shitty person, more a cranky one, so he has a pretty good guess that he vacated the area and that kind of work quickly.]
[Adrien ends up with Niko jogging to come up behind him at some point. And so he doesn't feel like a thug is getting the drop on him, he warns his approach with a firm-] Hey, man! [Then once he reaches him, and looks at the odd puzzle on the floor.] Sorry it took so long to find you. What is this? [He gestures downwards at the assortment on the floor.]
no subject
His own work had been, in many ways, easier than Nico's. He'd only had to put in a shift at the local hospital. While at one time that would have gotten under his skin, Adrien had learned how not to take his ire out on his patients.
Well, at least slightly less so than he had before he'd left his home world.
Regardless, Nico did a good thing in giving him a warning shout. The doctor glanced up from where he had his elbow on his knee, chin in his upturned hand. There was a brief pause and then he straightened up, frowning. ]
Trying to decide which one I want to purchase. [ He explained, motioning to the puzzles.
It was true. The cranky doctor was a giant nerd. ]
What's up?
no subject
I'd pick the one that you are less likely to lose pieces to. [That's his practical assessment. With all the moving around they've done and mishaps they've had, a puzzle that can be kept mostly together in a good case is important.]

heavenhell, which slowed his reflexes a little. This was a good thing but usually a stranger getting into his personal space might otherwise find themselves flung across the room. The fact that he was sitting, cross-legged, on the floor didn't help the whole body tossing either.
Regardless, this unknown woman was on the receiving end of a rude glare. ]
The fuck is your problem? [ He growled. Yep, sign him up for the Moira diplomatic corp right this instance! To be fair, when he was prepared to mind his manners, he could actually pull off first contacts pretty well. But as a surprise? Not always so smooth. ]

A - Medbay tour!
He's also wearing his uniform, because black with gold bands looks way less fancy than the rest of the clothes he was given.]
Hey, sorry if I'm late. Your ship is pretty amazing.

Beside him, however, lays a creature Ginko will soon learn is the doctor's near constant companion. Known as a bahari, Courser stands about as tall as a large German Shepherd dog, though his mouth is full of more teeth and his claws resemble those of a big cat.
The tracker comes to his feet, head and ears perked up in a manner that suggests he finds Ginko's appearance to be pleasing, perhaps familiar and the bahari begins to advance towards the man, looking more welcoming than Adrien. But after no more than a couple of steps, the tracker stops and his body language changes to uncertain.
Ginko doesn't smell right. Well actually Ginko smells just fine, only it's not the familiar scent Courser was expecting. The creature backtracks with a low, scratchy sort of hiss. The noise catches Adrien's attention and he looks down at his companion, then to Ginko and after a moment, drops his hand and gently ruffles the bahari's blue mane.
It's an understanding gesture that lasts only a couple of breaths, before he turns towards Ginko and steps away from the space cat. ]
You're assigned as a field medic, right? We can start with the field kits, if you'd like and then move on to the rest of the MedBay.
[ Brisk and to the point. Ginko would -hopefully!- soon learn that Adrien was just utter crap at anything resembling social conversation. ]
no subject
But he shakes it off as Adrien starts talking business. Animals could be funny, best to leave them be when they get like that.]

d - awkward laundry times
It's only the second hour he's been actively working and he's on his way back from the kitchen with a cart full of dirty rags, towels, and aprons. He's still learning his way around so when he realizes he's passing the medbay, he ducks his head and trudges forward.]
Excuse me.
[There's a man near the door, and his cart is big. He doesn't want to hit him and he won't, but it's better to say something.]
no subject
And if the occasionally mystery of wherethefuckdidthatsecondsockgo, occasionally cropped up? Bonus!
Also, this was why the doctor was standing in the Medbay door with a large bundled of laundry. He had it all knotted up in a set of sheets, ready to head down to the laundry room and work on it but figured to let the large cart go by first.
When the man spoke, the doctor gave a small grunt but he did glance up.
...
And then did a double take. ]

Medbay adventures / dated to late October
Other than that, she wasn't exactly keen showing up in front of the medical staff. Not when nearly all of them had saw in such wrecked state. Screaming during the nights about hallucinations and nightmares was one thing, but she really feels deep shame and discomfort for having other people see her messy appearance from being prevented doing the simplest self-care for over a year.
But in the end J has never been person to shy away or keep her distance. She's always been dedicated to keep things as normal as possible no matter what. And ever since visiting the mini colony in the beginning of the month she has been feeling rather strange. There's this disgusting taste of ashes and charcoal permanently stuck in her mouth and her throat has been alarmingly hot.
So, she grabs a glass full of iced tea and decides to pay a visit to the good old doctor Adrien. Her heels clops sharply against the hard floor as she enters the medical bay. Luckily she doesn't have to look for Adrien for too long as she spots his legs peeking out underneath of the machines. She settles the glass down on the nearest table and kneels down next to him, watching him for a short while and waiting to be noticed.
When her presence goes ignored for a few minutes J eventually clears her throat and speaks with a quiet, raspy voice:]
Evening doctor.
no subject
No. This time he jumped, and smacked his head on the underside of the machine, due to the surprising sound of J's voice. ]
Owfuck!
[ It was a fairly regular refrain for this Medbay.
Rubbing his head, Adrien wriggled out from under the machine and blinked at her. It had been a few weeks since he'd last seen J, he hadn't suspected she wanted him to cross her path for a while after her stint in Medbay. So he's given her plenty of space.
Now, seeing her back to what he had come to consider her habitual classy self, he blinked and up nodded. ]

But ever since then, he'd been feeling very strange. He felt kind of cold, and his skin was drier. His concern grew as his eyes became blurry; he always had better than average vision so that was the final straw.
He came stumbling into medbay, hoping to get answers.]
Is anyone here?
no subject
In fact, the doctor was actually not under a piece of equipment but on his feet finishing up some data file "paperwork" for one of the techs. At the sound of a voice, he turned towards the individual coming through the door and then stepped out more into the main walkway. ]
