[Plot] What Could Have Been

Who: The Entire Moira
When: Mid September 22nd - 25th
Where: All over the ship
What: Holes in reality, holes in reality everywhere.
Warnings: None so far, please mark your content!

Hey, what's that sound? It sounds like a sharp whine of white noise and moving air, and quiet. And it's coming from a glowing crack that appears to be... floating in midair inside the ship. Surely that can't be good, right? How come they're appearing all over the Moira? And why do they show such bizarre images when you get close enough...?

((OOC: Plot details are here, feel free to use this post or make new ones! :D Any questions, feel free to hit me up at [plurk.com profile] kouject, otherwise GO NUTS GUYS, AU SHENANIGANS~))

She hadn't really intended to get into her personal life like this with him, at least not yet. Goddamn, they barely know each other, yet...it doesn't feel right to lie about it either. Not if they're going to be drawing closer over time. She frowns and looks past him, back to where the shining crack had appeared.

"We were good partners. They knew what they were doing when they assigned us to one another. But he pushed me in directions I shouldn't go, sometimes." She doesn't want to get into too many details now, because she'll have to get into how she spent so long trying to kill Omega, only to partner back up with him, and she knows that it's difficult for people here to understand her reasoning in doing that.

"Less human directions." He hazards the guess based on what he's seen, watches her face as he speaks for any kind of confirmation, but doesn't really pause for long.

"There was an alien involved... why? To be honest, I feel like I came in at the end of a very long movie." There's both the mystery of her, and the fact that if she had a neural connection with another A.I. and had plans that involved traveling with aliens... possibly, possibly the book that he's chosen to read to her is boring her to tears.

And possibly he'll continue to read it to her until she says so.

"Yes."

Less human, a very good way to put it. She glances at his face.

"And you did. I mean, as much as one incident in someone's life comes after everything that came before it. I could sit and talk about it for a long time and all I'd do is confuse you."

She rubs her cheek.

"The alien was because we captured it. It was one of the aliens that had been waging war on humanity for thirty years—a blind, religious war."

Again, sparing the details. She's not a good storyteller to begin with, and she's not going to hide her role in the plot if it comes up properly, but this sort of exposing of her past without her consent really bugs her.

"If you feel up to it one day, you can tell me the whole story. I'm interested." He's careful to say this in such a way that implies that it's all right if she doesn't, and he shifts around in his seat a little, wiggling his toes against the chair.

"How would you have been able to end the war with this particular alien?"

"We thought there was no chance," she says. She's looking away again, picking at the bedclothes. "We were desperate. I was prepared to do whatever it took. Though in the end it turned out we weren't needed." Nothing Freelancer did amounted to anything. That was the legacy Tex had been trying to change, and her efforts had not borne any fruit.

In some way that she's not completely proud of, he'd guess, judging by her body language, how she doesn't want to look at him. Or maybe it's just that she's remembering, now. Maybe a little bit of both.

"People will do any number of things out of desperation, particularly if they feel that they have a chance to make some kind of grand gesture, something that looks like a trick -- do they have magic tricks where you're from? -- that requires great effort but will accomplish everything. It's very hard to do, however."

He doesn't get into how he would know that, but it's the question he would ask next in her place, so he prepares an answer.

"In any case, none of this happened this way. We have to wonder why we're seeing it now."

She snorts lightly but doesn't ask. "I guess there's a certain blind hope that you can't help but have when you're in that kind of situation. Yes, they have magic tricks. Yes, I know they're just illusions."

Which brings them back around, doesn't it? Tex is glad for the change in subject, as she doesn't like being under the magnifying glass.

"I don't know. I don't know what that was. Some effect of the environment we're in again, I'm guessing." There has been too much strange nonsense that has gone on on this ship.

"I doubt it's because of a new passenger... there haven't been any in some time. So it must -- "

He's distracted by the formation of a new crack.

This one is in a similar location, pulsating just a couple of feet away from where the first one was, shining just as bright. "Son of a bitch," Tex says, sounding exasperated. It's soon clear, though, that the person this image is focusing on is him.
