Hey, what's that sound? It sounds like a sharp whine of white noise and moving air, and quiet. And it's coming from a glowing crack that appears to be... floating in midair inside the ship. Surely that can't be good, right? How come they're appearing all over the Moira? And why do they show such bizarre images when you get close enough...?

"We were good partners. They knew what they were doing when they assigned us to one another. But he pushed me in directions I shouldn't go, sometimes." She doesn't want to get into too many details now, because she'll have to get into how she spent so long trying to kill Omega, only to partner back up with him, and she knows that it's difficult for people here to understand her reasoning in doing that.

"There was an alien involved... why? To be honest, I feel like I came in at the end of a very long movie." There's both the mystery of her, and the fact that if she had a neural connection with another A.I. and had plans that involved traveling with aliens... possibly, possibly the book that he's chosen to read to her is boring her to tears.
And possibly he'll continue to read it to her until she says so.

Less human, a very good way to put it. She glances at his face.
"And you did. I mean, as much as one incident in someone's life comes after everything that came before it. I could sit and talk about it for a long time and all I'd do is confuse you."
She rubs her cheek.
"The alien was because we captured it. It was one of the aliens that had been waging war on humanity for thirty years—a blind, religious war."
Again, sparing the details. She's not a good storyteller to begin with, and she's not going to hide her role in the plot if it comes up properly, but this sort of exposing of her past without her consent really bugs her.

"How would you have been able to end the war with this particular alien?"

"People will do any number of things out of desperation, particularly if they feel that they have a chance to make some kind of grand gesture, something that looks like a trick -- do they have magic tricks where you're from? -- that requires great effort but will accomplish everything. It's very hard to do, however."
He doesn't get into how he would know that, but it's the question he would ask next in her place, so he prepares an answer.
"In any case, none of this happened this way. We have to wonder why we're seeing it now."

Which brings them back around, doesn't it? Tex is glad for the change in subject, as she doesn't like being under the magnifying glass.
"I don't know. I don't know what that was. Some effect of the environment we're in again, I'm guessing." There has been too much strange nonsense that has gone on on this ship.

He's distracted by the formation of a new crack.
