[banging fists on table] MORE ROBOT DRAMA MORE ROBOT DRAMA MORE ROBOT DR
Who: riptide and some other dudes
When: after magnus's post
Where: riptide's room
What: sad fish boy
Warnings: cw for possible discussion of war, violence, ptsd, generally the depressing shit you get with these metal tittybabies
a. magnus
[accepting his fate, riptide allowed magnus to drag him to his room, no longer fighting.
if he had more knowledge of the situation, he would respond differently. he doesn't, though, and all he knows is he takes part in something that results in all his friends being left for the djd. after everything he's experienced in regards to tarn aboard to moira, after everything everyone has done for him, he was still stupid and selfish enough to leave them all for dead.
what the fuck did getaway say to him?
these are things that riptide will wonder about until he's physically unable to stay awake anymore, but for now he just lets whatever's going to happen to him happen.]
b. megatron
[they didn't finish the wall.
riptide eventually gets sick of laying on his bed staring at it like a useless sack of shit and gets up, sliding off the berth to carefully press at the edges still sticking out awkwardly.
he still thinks the table looked fine where it was.
sighing, riptide gets to work. missing brainstorm and nautica intensely for a moment before telling himself he doesn't deserve to.]
c. anyone else
[you want this sad fish? come yell at him in his room. he's not leaving.]

BUT DAAAAD
the door does swing open, however, and riptide gestures him in. it looks like the reveal has hit him hard - he looks pretty exhausted and generally like he's stopped caring about himself.
which isn't entirely inaccurate. he just doesn't expect magnus to give a shit about his well being.]
Okay.
no buts no tv forever
[He lets the silence hang for what seems like an eternity, until the disappointment can practically be felt, hanging in the air like a fog.]
[Finally, he speaks, without turning.]
This version of Sideswipe is especially fond of you. He wouldn't have let Ultra Magnus get within a hundred klicks of you.
I felt odd having to pretend to be someone else just to get within your vicinity.
8 (
[he closes the door, clomping back over to his berth.]
I don't think he understands. Or he doesn't want to.
or video games
Speaking of dedication, the question of yours has arisen. Your dedication to your friends and your crew.
I...admit, I was overzealous in my apprehension of you. I caused a commotion that was needless and out of bounds in regards to this ship and its laws.
Riptide...I have questions. And I want answers. Am I being perfectly clear?
WHAT!!
The only thing you did wrong was neglecting to squeeze as hard as you could when that pulse thing happened.
[he's not doing so good.]
Shoot.
OR SNACKS B|
[No. He'd get to that...first and foremost, there was something that was troubling him more.]
I was told...I was told that Tarn had gotten to you. I...can't imagine--
I don't want to imagine what that was like. I understand he...that you were...
I suppose, I want to know if...you're alright.
WHAT!!!!!!!
[he's not in denial.]
He tore me to pieces after so kindly informing me what a worthless coward I am. So I guess it's ironic that anything you'll want to say to me has already been drilled into my head by Tarn, of all people.
YOU HEARD ME YOUNG MAN
You still have so many people...Cybertronian and organic alike...coming to your defense. Offering up, from my standpoint, absolutely glowing character references.
You're their friend. You care for them, and they care for you.
[There's an unsteadiness to his voice. It's quick, almost unnoticeable, but it's there. His rigid shoulders hunch as he continues his train of thought.]
This? These stories...these accounts...this is how I knew you to be, Riptide...you care.
So...why? Even if you didn't participate directly...you knew what was in our future. You knew that Getaway would...
[He vents shakily and presses his fingers to the crest of his helm. His optics dim and shutter closed as he shakes the memories of so many of his comrades bidding them farewell. Stoically. Defiantly. While Getaway crowed on.]
What could I--...
What could we have done differently...? What makes us different...from those you care so deeply for aboard this ship...?
AAAAAAA
I-- Magnus, please believe me when I say I didn't know about the DJD or a abandoning you all. Do I really look like someone who would be a prime confidant? All I know is Getaway was planning something that was singularly focused on Megatron. For all I know he was just going to wax the floors and shove him out an airlock!
[he's not as good as hiding his emotions as minimus. riptide squeezes his optics shut, shaking his head.]
I can't imagine any universe that everyone would be okay with letting you guys be killed by them. I don't understand how it got that bad...
no subject
But, Riptide...why did you stay silent? Why didn't you come to anyone? Come to me?
We had dealt with Getaway...temporary as it was but...
[He stops himself. He had to ask another question.]
Riptide...what was the last thing you remember before arriving on the Moira...?
no subject
[his tone is dripping with venom.]
We'd just come back from the Necrobots planet. When does it happen?
no subject
[He practically spat those words, perhaps a bit more harsh than he intended. He clears his vocalizer.]
Then...you aren't aware of what Getaway tried to do prior...?
no subject
[there's hesitation.]
But you know what? After spending so long with him here I think he is trying. I don't know if I can forgive him but I know he's trying.
[he shakes his head.]
No. I thought this mutiny was the big thing?
no subject
He led Tailgate on...drew him away from Cyclonus. Used his burgeoning feelings and tricked Tailgate into almost killing Megatron...
If Cyclonus hadn't intervened, Tailgate would be dead.
no subject
tailgate had mentioned something about getaway but they didn't talk about it in detail. his tanks churn as he thinks of how much fun they had doing dumb shit instead.]
I guess I knew that but still went along with him. I really am scum.
no subject
After that incident, we imprisoned Getaway. We had hoped the measures we took would make it impossible to get aw--...
To escape.
We were correct, he couldn't escape his holding cell on his own. The rest of the crew let him out shortly after we were lured back to the Necrobot's planet.
We were attacked. The Rodpod was shot down by Decepticon fighters. When we attempted to reach the Lost Light...it was then that Getaway made his dramatic reappearance. He condemned us for High Command's decision to allow Megatron on board, he lambasted Rodimus for his negligence as a captain...and he explained everything to us.
He had been trying to stage a coup since we departed Cybertron. He approached every single member of the crew and pressed them on where they would stand if a coup took place and if they weren't prepared to stand with him, his nudge gun came into play. Those of us who...were more forgiving than the rest...were the ones left stranded.
It appears I've come to enjoy Megatron's company too much, or maybe it was because I was bound by the chain of command that I had no problems deferring to him. I can't remember. Either way... Tarn and Deathsaurus were on our doorstep before I arrived through the Ingress. I don't know who, if any of us, survive.
no subject
I remember him asking... but the DJD? I can't-- I can't...
no subject
I want to believe that, Riptide. I do.
But Getaway said it himself. He said there was a surprise waiting for us. That 'one of us will probably get hurt.'
[His shoulders quake as he remembers that last communication, and he casts Riptide a pleading gaze over his hunched shoulder.]
Please...Riptide. Please tell me you would have told me.
no subject
this isn't what magnus wants him to do, but riptide hazards a guess magnus wouldn't want him to lie, either.
riptide doesn't meet magnus's gaze.]
no subject
Please...I'm asking you to say something..!
[He wasn't asking so much for Riptide's reasons. He needed to know that there were those who wouldn't have left them to die. If so, then maybe Mainframe, Blaster, Hound, all of those he'd fought with shoulder to shoulder...that they wouldn't have done the same if they knew...]
I am no longer asking as your commanding officer. I am asking you as a friend...
no subject
[riptide bites his lower lip.]
I want to say I would. I want to say it because I don't want to see anyone get hurt but... I didn't! It happened!
no subject
You're a liar because you did want to see someone get hurt. You wanted to see Megatron get hurt and, because of that? You may have condemned all of us to death.
[The tremors in his voice are much harder to hide now. There's some anger there, for sure. That's almost synonymous with his normal voice. What's not normal? The absolute devastation that his vocalizer betrays to Riptide.]
Even after he tried to...to teach us. To better himself. To find peace. We've all done terrible things in this war, and Megatron knows above all others the weight his choices have carried! And yet...
[Minimus places his hand over his face and stops himself.]
I am not asking anyone to forget the war...those we lost. Primus knows it cost us several Ultra Magnuses. Those far better than I. I had merely hoped we could learn from it.
...I suppose I was wrong. Perhaps I grew too lax. Had too much...
Too much...ff...fun...
[Perhaps he deserved this too, somehow.]
no subject
[his voice cracks and he trails off. it's not right seeing minimus like this. it's not right at all.]
You and... everyone else. None of you deserved that. You're all going to die because...
[he presses his hand to his face, not even trying to hide the light strands starting to leak out. yeah, cry again. like it's going to change anything. like he doesn't deserve to feel this way.]
I should've stayed dead when Tarn got me. Primus knows I deserved it tenfold.
no subject
[Slowly, Minimus approaches Riptide and shakily places a hand on the larger bot's forearm.]
I am sorry...to be the one to bring this upon you. I am sorry for asking the impossible from you...and I am sorry I attacked you. I was scared. We were all scared.
I don't think...I don't think the future can be changed but...
Rest assured, we are going to fight until the last vestiges of light fade from our sparks...
no subject
[it's childish and stupid, but riptide can't take it anymore. he's not someone who CAN take burdens well, and he just draws in on himself more, shoulders heaving as he outright sobs the words out. like a mantra, like if he pleas hard enough the future CAN change.]
