"Big things have small beginnings."
☄ DECONTAMINATION #2 ( 04.14 - 04.17 ) On the Moira, crew come and go without much hassle. They take a transporter to planets and moons and back again without any fuss... Until today. All crew that try to reboard the Moira coming back from Del Pascia will be denied access, a warning flashing on their MID - Decontamination Required for Entry. It’s a protocol that hasn’t been enacted before, and the MID offers no explanation as to why it is now. The transporter will seal and then be permitted to dock in the Cargo Bay, where the procedure will begin. All crew on the transporter have to dispose of their clothing by placing it inside hazardous waste bags located in a compartment near the front of the craft. After all clothing is stored, a gas-like substance will fill the transporter, breathable yet tasteless, and once it dissipates, crew will be free to go. ☄ D.ON'T E.VER L.EAVE ( 04.18 - 04.23 ) After the decontamination procedures for the Moira go off, the captains issue a ship-wide alert to let the crew know that the ship is picking up on something inside each person that boarded the space station. It is speculated that the crew came in contact with an unknown biological contaminant either during the station’s decontamination procedure or sometime after. At this point, they aren’t aware of what will happen to those that are carrying the contaminant, and the captains ask for anybody with experience to head to the Medbay to begin testing. Crew don’t appear to be in any danger, so they are allowed to continue gathering materials and supplies on board the space station at their discretion. (Every time they come and go, they will be made to go through the procedure described above). ☄ FEAR ME, LOVE ME, DO AS I SAY ( 04.24 - 04.28 ) Like most unfortunate things, it seems everything happens all at once. The noises you heard, a step falling moments after yours or a rattle coming from the vents, become louder. You can’t place where they are coming from at first. You turn, you follow, but the search yields no results. And then, without any warning, it’s crystal clear as “they” begin to creep and move from within the shadows and ruined sections of Del Pascia: the prisoners and workers said to have been relocated by D-E-L. Their voice is one, regardless of how many gather, and they tell you, “You can be happy here” and “I can make you better” shortly after. As always, fearing for the safety of the crew (and despite the disrepair of the Moira from events prior), the captains ask for all those capable to assist with extracting those aboard Del Pascia as quickly as possible before D-E-L tries to lock them inside. Running, after all, is better than dying, and it’s certainly something everyone aboard the Moira has gotten quite good at. |

But he didn't take into calculation the effect his training has been having on him. Normally, training is supposed to make you better. Faster. Smarter. But not only did Link leave the Master Sword, which is what he'd been training with, back on the ship where it'd be safe, just in case. He doesn't feel like he's proficient enough with it yet to protect anyone. But, in addition to that, he's forgotten that Fi made him take a break from training because he was on the edge of exhausting himself. He's still recovering from the injuries he developed during his last session.
He isn't coming into this with full hearts. It's a mistake. A bad one. He should know better. But he refuses to sit by when people are in danger, and he miscalculates his abilities as they are under these conditions. The prisoners overwhelm him, despite his struggle. For all his strength, they're still bigger than him. And there are many, many more of them than there are of him. His last thought before he falls unconscious is that he let Fi down, let everyone down.
The prisoners drag him deep within Del Pascia. Their shuffling gaits eventually bring him to where Chara has been taken, and they lower him to the floor. He lays there, eyes shut. The prison's bloody illusion has a hold on him, too, it seems, because his body is positively covered in it. Most of the blood, though, is a dark green.

...Blood?
Chara's nostrils drag air in, and they wonder if they can smell the carnage from this distance. There was so much of it. Was the other kid even alive? Did they bring Chara a corpse? They'd told Chara to sleep, and brought food for them to eat, but maybe their plan was to kill everyone all along.
The prisoners take centuries to sort themselves out, and when they finally do Chara springs to their feet, walking stiffly towards him. He's tiny. There's only one kid aboard the Moira that's this size, and if that's his blood, then he's probably dead, and the smell of it should be weighing heavily in Chara's nostrils. Chara doesn't smell any, do they--? The smell is vivid enough to nearly taste, just from memories, but it's not actually here--?
Chara kneels beside him, touching his shoulder.
It's dry.
Relief rushes through them, and Chara grits their teeth, instantly snatching their hand back. Just because they're not stuck with some blood-soaked corpse doesn't mean they're any closer to safety. In fact, if Link turns out to be some stupid little kid who loses his head and starts to cry as soon as he wakes up, then Chara's just worse off than they started.
"Hey." They pour more force into the word, "Hey, wake up."

He's wearing his work uniform, same as he has since he arrived on the Moira. It's felt odd, since it doesn't have any kind of hat, but... At least he's continued to carry his backpack with him. It's brown leather, and he wears it under his shield with both straps over his shoulder.

They tilt his head to the side. Still too much blood to see details, but there's an egg-shaped lump on his forehead. When they touch it it feels real. Chara frowns.
"... Dead weight. You didn't even bring your sword." Chara would be all kinds of a weenie if they just curled up next to him and cried, wouldn't they? They turn to his shield, poking dolefully at it. Maybe Chara can fight with this instead. Maybe they could pick Link up and swing him around like a doll. They want to giggle a little, but can't get out more than a watery grin.
... Those leather straps aren't attached to the shield. What are they for? Chara bites their lip and glances around. Then they lift the shield with one hand, touch the backpack with the other, quickly working at its buckle.

Maybe they didn't get everything. Maybe there's some teeny pocket knife hidden under everything else. Maybe there's a big pocket knife. Maybe pigs will have wings and pie'll fall from the sky. Chara reaches inside the bag.
It's a little like reaching the top of a staircase and expecting an extra stair. Chara's eyes fly open, and they try to see into the backpack again. Masks? And hats? And--a bow? They press the shield back down as though to hide the lot, eyes wide. Chara doesn't know how to use a bow. There'd been a bottle. Maybe they could break it and use the pieces like knives? They could do this. Maybe they're not trapped in hell.
Or maybe they are, because having a knife didn't save them the first time. They need a rocket launcher, or maybe a chainsaw, and it really didn't look like this backpack has those.
Still dead weight. It's too painful to let hope go completely. Chara swallows, looking around again. (As if looking so guilty would fool anyone.) There's a few masks close to the surface, and Chara slips three of them out, dimly hoping for a miracle. Maybe they could sell D-E-L the bag??
Three ugly masks. They're both doomed.

If Chara could tell, then it'd be obvious that most of the items in his bag are magical, too. But as they are, just by looking at them, it is just... an eclectic collection of strange, colorful things. But among all of them, are two bags, leather and brown, their openings pulled taught by pieces of string. They're fairly unassuming, except that they're bulging.

There's extra pouches inside. Tugging on one almost sends a potato-shaped instrument to the floor, and Chara rescues it, tucking it impatiently to one side. The pouch is opened, frowned at, and dropped. What a weirdo freak. Both kids are trapped and about to be zombified, and he's carrying canon balls?
There's that bottle, still carrying water. Their wild plan from before flashes through their mind again, and they picture smashing it and leaving Link behind. He can't run for himself, so obviously it's the only option. He's forfeit. He's not someone like Frisk. It wouldn't affect Chara if he got left behind!
Chara bites their lip hard, looking down.
They lift the bottle. Then they uncork it, overturning its meager contents over Link's face.
