"I feel liberated when I'm doing it, and I want other people to feel liberated through it."
☄ ENJOY YOUR STAY ... IN PRISON Those who choose to go to Del Pascia will find themselves greeted by D-E-L. It has already agreed to terms with the Captains, allowing crew to strip nonessential supplies that aren’t needed since the station’s crew and prisoners were relocated due to funding cuts. The only condition placed upon this agreement is that any crew wishing to explore must undergo a mandatory decontamination before proceeding through the rest of Del Pascia. This process takes only minutes and is guaranteed to cause no physical side effects. Following this simple procedure, exploration is open with only warnings to be careful about damaging key systems. It is important to note that there are various security cameras located throughout the correctional facility, and it is not uncommon for D-E-L to comment or show concern for those exploring parts of Del Pascia. ☄ DEATH BECOMES YOU There is salvage to be found in all parts of the facility, including the cell blocks and infirmaries of the prison wings. However, there is something odd about these sectors, a strange charge in the air that follows you as you search for anything useful to bring back to the Moira. Perhaps it is the eyes of D-E-L watching? But then, after an indiscernible amount of time, it's like a switch is flipped. Suddenly, you are wearing your sins where anyone but you can see. For however much death you have wrought or committed, there will be blood on your hands—perhaps even further than that. This bizarre occurrence will appear as an almost digital skin and will not vanish until outside the cell blocks. If exploring the infirmaries for supplies, any and all health stats throughout your life will be visible and easy to read by anyone who happens to take an interest. ☄ WHAT WAS THAT SOUND? Del Pascia is a very large station and has been abandoned for quite some time. D-E-L will regretfully inform anyone who asks that some nonessential areas have fallen into disrepair. It will warn that exploring these areas can be risky as it has no knowledge of what damage these sections have taken. Regardless of that, if you venture in, you’ll find that these sections are in rather bad shape. Exposed wiring sparks in the walls, a great variety of broken tools are thrown about, and it seems that every camera has been purposely broken. Venturing in further will yield valuable components for salvage, and yet... as before, you suspect you aren’t alone. It isn’t often, but sometimes, you might hear a step falling moments after yours or a rattle coming from the vents. Every time you go to investigate... whatever made the noise is gone. |
he ran into my knife. i figure it's finally safe to tag into this, as i monopolize your time.
ivan grins widely when he sees elizabeth, and instead of going straight to digging through cupboards, leans casually against the cupboards, watching her. fondly, he might add. )
Hey Elizabeth, what's a girl like you doing in a place like this? ( he jokes, pushing himself up from his lean to at least make his way over to her -- rope him in, elizabeth, put him to work. ) Find anything?
SHHHHHH NEVER STOP MONOPOLIZING
I think that's my line-- what's a handsome man like you doing in a dusty, mildewed place like this? [She asks, holding up a handful of bandages sporting some kind of gray mold.] Not much in this cabinet, though maybe it's just been contaminated. What about you? Any luck finding something to repair the snacked-on supports?
well if you say so!!
Avoiding this round's new arrivals. ( not a lie! mark came with his mother, and ivan wants to see miles' clone even less than he wants to see his mother. his familial obligation to deal with mark only extends to not punching him in the face when he sees him.
he shakes his head at her second question. ) Not unless we've got welders on board and no one told us. I haven't been to the parts in disrepair, though, so there's still a chance.
no subject
[A readout appears behind her shoulder, and just... keeps... scrolling.]
Why are you avoiding the new arrivals?
no subject
( and then she sees her list, and just-- sort of stares, his face going from vaguely interested to concerned and then to really concerned once it hits a certain point. )
Uh, Elizabeth?
( ivan's own list is smaller and less deeply upsetting when it finally appears by his head.
Name: Ivan Xav Vorpatril, Lieutenant Lord; Иван Ξав Ворпатрил
Age: 25
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 196 lb
Current Injuries: None
Prior Incidents:
• Near-suffocation (dirt)
• Multiple counts of unconsciousness
• Oral ingestion of an anti-aphrodisiac (temporary)
• Concurrent; lacerated hands, irritated throat, unusually high adrenaline, unusually high stress levels
• Broken arm )

[Then it hits her, what he's looking at just to the left of her eyes. Elizabeth turns and looks, scanning parts of the long, scrolling list, and only a quick look tells her that it's not good. She stands up and tries to step in front of it, but it just travels with her step. Then she tries to hold her hands in front of it and it just projects over her hands. She sighs, her shoulders sagging, back to Ivan.]
...please don't look. It's over, there's-- there's nothing anyone can do about all of this.
[Somehow she feels guilty for not mentioning all of this, even though she's come clean about her tears, the saddest part of her history, and a whole host of feelings she's revealed to him as they happen. She knows how allergic Ivan is to trouble, this is probably extremely upsetting to him.]
[Couldn't it just... say something like 'likes puppies and the color blue'? Something nice?]
no subject
because she was what? supposed to be dead? )
Elizabeth-- ( he doesn't even know what to say about that, not to mention all the stuff he couldn't make out. ) Like hell.
( surely there's something, he just doesn't know what. )
no subject
...what do you mean, 'like hell'?
no subject
( to do, that is.
maybe the simplest things are the best, right? it seems to be effective with her, and ivan takes a step forward to wrap his arms around her in a tight hug. )
I know it's in the past, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. I can't do anything about it, but-- but it's wrong, Elizabeth.
( and that makes him feel helpless. normally he doesn't mind, but this? the wrongness of it and nothing to champion for to deal with it? doesn't leave him feeling good at all. )
no subject
I know. I know it was. It wasn't fair, and I didn't deserve it. I was scared when it was happening, I was alone for most of it, but if I keep retreading all of my pain it's going to turn me into someone I don't want to be. Bitter and cynical, hellbent on inflicting that on whoever I think deserves it.
That's not who I want to be, not-- [She buries her forehead into Ivan's chest, as though hiding from punishment or disappointment.] Not again.
no subject
You said you didn't have anywhere to go back to. Not because anything happened to your home, but-- ( it's a question, but at the same time it isn't -- just a simple statement as ivan tries to figure this whole thing out. ) Because you're dead.
( that's horrifying, and his grip around elizabeth tightens, slides his fingers into her hair to reassure both her and, well, him, that she's alive and breathing in his arms. )
no subject
[She tightens her fingers into the back of his uniform.] ...I probably died, yes. This man, Atlas, he started a civil war in Rapture and knew he could win it if I gave him some information. I knew once he had it... he'd have no reason to keep me alive. He was unstable, power-hungry, he thought he couldn't be touched and he could kill people whenever he wanted. He... exercised that belief on me, once I told him what he wanted to know.
That aside, there truly isn't anything for me back in my timeline. Booker is raising his daughter, my life was nothing but moving from one timeline to another without any companion or friend... but now I am afraid that if I go back, I'll just be dead. That's why I feel no urge to go home like so many people do. I'm afraid.
no subject
( that moment she must have thought he was him, and ivan had no clue what to do. now? now he has a little bit more of an idea what that involved, and his grip around elizabeth tightens. )
Then don't go back. I meant it when I said you could come back with us, Miles and Gregor and I. You wouldn't have to stay on Barrayar, it's an entire universe of different planets. ( does the ingress even work like that? ivan doesn't know, doesn't think about that when he offers. ) I think all three of us would like you to stay, though. Gregor'll make it easy.
( he'd better. )
no subject
I won't, there's nothing that could make me go back. I want to go with you, all of you, when the Moira arrives at its destination. You're all my friends, and if I have the option to stay with people I care about... well the choice is obvious, isn't it? [She smiles faintly.] I'd hope you'd all make it easy for me though-- not just Gregor.
[She has to ask, though--] ...how did you know about Atlas?
no subject
( close enough. )
Uh. Do you remember the night of our first date?
no subject
[Elizabeth stiffens in Ivan's arms. There's only one reason he'd ask that question.] ...did I say something about him that night? [Maybe she hadn't passed out in his arms like she remembers. Maybe she blacked out.]
no subject
( did she say something about that night? well... )
You thought I was him, I think. Just for a bit.
no subject
[...It probably does top that and that's why Ivan won't say anything about it.]
[
This family.][More importantly-- Atlas. And Ivan. And apparently Elizabeth mistaking Ivan for Atlas.]
Oh God... [She shrinks back and covers her mouth in humiliation.] I didn't hit you, did I?
[Because right now, at least, Elizabeth thinks she would punch him if he showed up suddenly. Damn the consequences, he-- he deserved it.]
[She's said that before, though, and the realization is uncomfortable.]
no subject
( it didn't work, however. so it clearly worked out for him. )
no subject
I'm so embarrassed, I'm so sorry Ivan. I'll never drink that much again, it obviously didn't do me any favors that night.
no subject
It's alright, Elizabeth, really. Everyone's got to learn their limits -- you just did yours.
no subject
...did I say anything?
no subject
( he tries very very hard not to look back at the list. )
Nothing coherent. Only things that didn't end well for you, I guess.
no subject
I don't want relive this... all of this... [She gestures to the list.] over and over again. My life was terrible before I came here, I won't hide that from you, but I'm here now. I have to focus on that.
[Elizabeth takes Ivan's hand and looks up at him somberly.] I got too caught up in what had been done to me after I sent Booker away. I made mistakes, acted in a way I shouldn't have, lost sight of everything except for what I thought I needed to feel whole again. What I needed... I've found here. [She smiles and squeezes his hand.] Something to do every day, a job that benefits someone else, friends, belonging... someone to kiss and hold... [The warmth flickers out of her face.] I just want to move forward, not backwards anymore.
no subject
( he figures not looking at it will do a fair amount of good for pushing it back to the back of her mind. )
