far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

Buckingham Palace it is then.

[Eggsy doesn't really care where they go. It's nice just being here, even if they don't know how long they'll get to stay.]

You ever been here?
heart_breaking: (Frown)

[personal profile] heart_breaking 2016-05-20 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
[They shake their head.]

I've never gone very far from Mt. Ebott.

[Or the town nearest to it, but they're not inclined to bring that up.]

[personal profile] commontype 2016-05-21 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Where's that at?

[Eggsy figures it's a stupid question, sort of. They're from totally different places and it probably doesn't exist here.]

You gotta favorite sweet?
heart_breaking: (Not hostile (?))

[personal profile] heart_breaking 2016-05-25 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Chara shrugs unhelpfully.] It's not in England. And--I like chocolate. Brand name, usually.

[For all that they don't look straight at him, their 'unobtrusive' glance is as subtle as if they had. Is he asking because he plans to give them some? Probably not. But what if?]

Yours?

[personal profile] commontype 2016-05-26 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right. Course not. Everyone's from all over, yeah?

[Eggsy gently touches their shoulder, then gestures towards a shop to the right.]

Let's get some chocolate then.
heart_breaking: (Let's dance)

[personal profile] heart_breaking 2016-05-27 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Eggsy knows how much they hate the world, and he knows they're cruel. Is he just forgetting? Does he assume that Chara couldn't hurt him if they tried? ... Maybe he can tell they won't try. Maybe he'd seen the future written in them from the start, and their lack of malice now is no surprise to him.]

[Or maybe he's just being a kind-hearted idiot. That's more likely, given what he's been like before. Chara smiles. The edges of their eyes stay pinched.]

Okay.

[They turn to the right.]

Um. Everyone is from all over... [It's a sentence that coasts to a stop. The frown that follows their smile is even more pinched than the smile.]

I'd offer to show you things from my home, but there's nothing good to see.

[Eggsy had enough money, thanks to Kingsman, to be able to afford whatever they wanted inside the shop. If he'd had his younger sister with him now, he'd be doing the same thing to her as he's doing to Chara. Trying to buy them the world to make up for everything that had been lacking in their lives. He doesn't feel guilty about it, he just wants to share the lucky break he'd been given.

That smile doesn't quite meet their eyes, but it lights Eggsy's face up, a wide smile of his own offered them in return.]

Let's get whatever, yeah? Don't matter what it is, we'll get it. Can even take it back to the ship with us.

[He pulls open the door, stepping aside to let them in.]

Well, you're from there so it can't be all bad. But I'd only wanna go if you'd wanna go back. It's easy to bring people here to London cause the good and bad parts are pretty separate.
heart_breaking: (A small shock)

[personal profile] heart_breaking 2016-05-28 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Eggsy's delight is infectious, and Chara's smile manages a smaller, but definitely warmer comeback. He's an idiot, and they're still watching for some other shoe to drop, but it's easy to be swept up in his enthusiasm. They walk into the store ahead of him, looking around.]

[It's a candy store. Thick smells of vanilla and toffee fill their nose, and everywhere they look is a culinary dream come true. It's a little overwhelming: though the Underground had its own self-made delicacies, they were all restricted by the trash humans left behind and the supplies raised in an underground cave.]

[They hover just inside the door, smile slipping. They're not intimidated, but--well. At least there's plenty of sweets around to pretend to inspect while they adjust. If Eggsy shows signs of moving anywhere through the store besides to follow them, they're going to follow him.]

[Eggsy picks up a basket, holding it between them as if to tell them that whatever they want, just slip it in. He's certainly not going to be shy about it. There was a time when he couldn't have afforded to come anywhere near a place like this, but it's still recent enough that a part of him just wants to buy everything. He won't, he'll hold back, but not much.]

Look at that.

[There's a display nearby with some of the fanciest biscuits he's ever seen. Chocolate drizzled and tasty as fuck. Eggsy grabs a package and sits it in the basket, hesitates, then adds another.]

I wonder if you can freeze some of this. Like, who knows when we'll be around a place like this again.

[personal profile] heart_breaking 2016-06-06 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Chara's eyes follow the package, and the exchange before they walked in plays itself over in their mind. They're here for Chara's sake. Those are chocolate covered sweets, and he's getting it because he knows they'll enjoy it. It's almost like he's not the kind of person that could break a person in half without breaking a sweat, except he is. But he's also already a better brother than that faceless human in Chara's memories, the one that was taller and safer than their human parents, but far less reliable--Eggsy wasn't like any of those humans. Chara thinks of Gregor. They think of Peter, before he proved himself to be a complete and utter idiot.]

[Their hand rests on a box of rock-shaped chocolates, and a question that's been flapping around their ribcage finally makes it out.]

Why are you being so nice to me?

[personal profile] commontype 2016-06-07 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[He angles the basket closer, a silent suggestion that they should put the rock-shaped candies inside. Eggsy picks up a box of truffles, toffee and peanut and caramel, and he's going to have to control himself. He glances over, a little bit of surprise flashing across his face.]

Why wouldn't I be?

[Eggsy sighs softly, turning towards them some, a small smile offered their way.]

Was bein' nice just to be nice when we first met, but the more we hung out, I dunno, kinda felt like you deserved to have someone bein' nice to you. That maybe you needed it.

[His face gets a little hard, briefly.]

Um, sometimes people've got potential, deep down, and not everybody can see it. Someone took a chance with me, and it felt right to try and be that for you.
heart_breaking: (Stare)

[personal profile] heart_breaking 2016-06-08 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I killed the last person who tried to do that for me. My entire family.

[Their face has scrunched slightly, and their words are dead.]

I've killed lots of people. They weren't even doing anything. They were just being nice, just like you.
commontype: <user name=easycompany> (88)

[personal profile] commontype 2016-06-09 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Eggsy's not really sure what to say at first. He doesn't want to freak out or say anything stupid, but he does want to be honest.]

A part of me wants to ask you why, but another part of me thinks that I don't really got a right to know that.

[He turns to Chara, expression soft.]

I ain't innocent, even though you say I'm nice. I've done things that hurt people. I've killed people. [It might not be the same thing, but it was what he's done.] The thing is, though, that now I try to do what's right.

Not sayin' you've gotta change, but I think we could both benefit from know each other, yeah?
heart_breaking: (Default -- Hopes and dreams crawling)

[personal profile] heart_breaking 2016-06-12 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
If you're saying I should learn from you, then think again. 'Doing right' now isn't going to fix anything if people are already dead! You can't come back from that. The more you kill, the less you can!

[Their voice is rising, but there's something more plaintive than accusing about it.]
commontype: (52)

[personal profile] commontype 2016-06-13 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno. Maybe we can learn from each other?

[Eggsy wants to reach out and touch them, but he doesn't know if it'll be wanted.]

And I don't believe that. Nobody's ever too far gone. Too in the dark to never see the sun again. [He says it firmly, turning his attention back to the sweets.] How about this one?
heart_breaking: (No eyes)

[personal profile] heart_breaking 2016-06-13 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'm too far gone! [They don't even glance at the sweets.] I was too far gone before I even started! Don't you get it?! Even for a human I'm awful, how'm I supposed to get any better when I keep getting worse?

[They're almost vibrating with tension, but it doesn't seem like they're going to lash out. Their eyes are glassy, their mouth keeps twisting into an upset, wobbly line.]
commontype: (3)

[personal profile] commontype 2016-06-14 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Eggsy turns back around, shoulders tense; he's a little worried that he's come on too strong and now he'll have to get firm like he would with Daisy when she was fussing for no reason. But it's not that simple, never is, and he knows as soon as his eyes meet theirs that he's probably pushed too far.

Not caring that there are people around, fuck them, he drops to his knees in front of them, the basket set aside.]

You're not and I'm stubborn enough to stay right here and argue with you til one of us gives up, and it won't be me.

[Taking a chance, he knows they've got a lot of anger in them and it's a risk, but he does it anyway, his knuckles brush their arm to let them know he's in this for better or worse.]

You ain't too far gone. You just ain't had nobody around to help you figure out what to do. We could figure it out together, if you wanted to let me try.
heart_breaking: (Sad)

[personal profile] heart_breaking 2016-06-16 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Their mouth twists, and there's a thousand words just waiting to be let loose about how they have had help, and how they don't want his friendship, and about why he shouldn't keep trusting them like some blind idiot who thinks everyone's good inside, and how if they don't want to be saved he should damn well let them spoil on the sidewalk, because nobody's more determined than they are, and they've made up their mind and they know their facts and--]

[--their eyes are full to the brim of tears, and the slightest motion might jostle them free. For a moment they can't even think except to sniff angrily. The injustice of it is all too clear.]

[Crap. The sniff shook them, and the tears spill. Chara swipes at their face while glaring, obviously struggling for an appropriate reaction.]

You don't get it. Humans don't fix themselves, and they never change!

[Now they want to cry more than they want to argue. Maybe Eggsy could help them try. Was he always so nice? Even if he's just faking, maybe at least they could learn to fake it better.]
commontype: <user name=easycompany> (91)

[personal profile] commontype 2016-06-23 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
[He reaches up to brush a few of those tears away with his knuckles.]

I dunno, luv. I ain't the best example, but I used to do some pretty bad shit. Look at me now though, yeah? Tryin' to do right even if I fuck it up sometimes.

[Eggsy knows that not all people change, they don't want to or nobody's there to remind them that they can, but he really does believe that everyone can change. It might not be easy, might slip up along the way, but there's good there and he wants them to know that.]

Point is, won't be easy, but easy's borin', and it'll take time, but none of this has to happen right now. You don't even gotta think about what I said. A couple days from now, you might go, well fuck him and that's that. Maybe you won't.

[He drops his hand to their shoulder, squeezing gently.]

The only thing that's important right now is decidin' how much sweets we can eat.
heart_breaking: (Default -- Hopes and dreams crawling)

[personal profile] heart_breaking 2016-06-23 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
[They hang their head for a long moment, before finally nodding. This is something they'd rather put off, and right now they have one of the greatest distractions known to humanity: tantalizing food.]

[Chara turns without lifting their head all the way, scrubbing their sleeve on their face again and glaring at a box of bonbons. It looks like it might be tasty. Chara takes it and a box next to it, stuffing it into the crook of their arm. By the time they finally come back to Eggsy their thoughts have turned inward, and they're carrying an impressive array of sweets.]
