far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

[Luke is right. He's so right. But, with the effects of the Nuke clouding his judgement, Tarn only sees it as fuel to his irrational, emotional fire.

Full on Tantrum commencing in 3...2...1...]

[Tarn grips the edge his desk, moving to flip it on top of Luke. He wasn't expecting the human to be quite so agile in dodging his last move.]

Enough! Enough of these lies.

[Tarn just wants him to stop; to shut up and stop making so much sense. He wants to be where he belongs so badly.]
t65: (whats worse dagobah or tatooine)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-16 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Again, Luke feels that warning from the Force. This time, there's no way to really dodge. Instead, he uses the Force to propel himself further, jumping to land on Tarn's outstretched fist. He begins running up Tarn's arm, toward his shoulder. He's going to be exhausted later, but for now, he's running on pure adrenaline.]

[He stops at Tarn's shoulder, trying to catch his gaze.]
Tarn, stop. This is pointless!
sparkwhisperer: (pic#10088695)

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-16 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[The desk flips easily, shattering glass and datapads under it's weight.

Tarn is a bit stunned that Luke was yet again able to dodge him. He stares wordlessly, glaring at the creature clinging to his treaded shoulder.]

You shouldn't have come here, Luke Skywalker.

[He should kill him. It would be a very simple task. But, to his credit he doesn't try to eviscerate him. Tarn gives his shoulder a jerk in a half-hearted attempt to throw him off balance.

His brief flare of rage begins to fade, leaving him feeling exhausted. As much as he wishes it weren't true, it does seem like Luke has some valid points. At least for now he seems to be safe from any further threats on his life.

Tarn slumps into a chair across from his desk. He doesn't want to leave, but it seems that Luke isn't giving him much choice in the matter. Heaving a heavy, frusterated sigh, Tarn glances at his shoulder accessory from the corner of his eye]

So. What now?
t65: (weird buddhist headstands.)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-16 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Luke just kind of holds on for dear life and tries to ride out the fiasco. It's not like he's never done that before.] You can- you can come back with me. There's always room for you, there.

[Look, he's trying to be encouraging, here.]
sparkwhisperer: (Default)

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-17 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
You're not going to leave me alone until I agree, are you?

[Tarn doesn't sound overly enthusiastic about the concept. But for once in the conversation, he doesn't flat out refuse]

I don't know why I'm even considering this...

t65: (eheu.)

hes literally his shoulder angel???

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-17 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
No. I'm famously stubborn. [He says it with a nervous laugh. Hanging on for dear life off the shoulder of a gigantic, angry droid is maybe not the best place to make self-depricating
commentary.]

Because it's the right thing to do. You know it is.
sparkwhisperer: (pic#9013258)

Luke is too good for this trash heap

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-17 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Stubbornness..I suppose that's a trait that I can respect.

[Tarn's shoulders slump beneath Luke as he purposefully avoids eyecontact. He knows its the right thing to do, but he still has reservations about it.]

What if this is it? What if this is the last time that I get to be where I truly fit?
t65: (don't hang out with luke skywalker)

he's more like a barge...

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-17 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, good. [Well, that was a bit sarcastic. Luke is currently climbing around, trying to find a perch that doesn't require him to constantly cling on in hopes he won't fall to his death. It seems a little undignified, after all this.]

You're the one putting limitations on that. [He says while scampering around on Tarn's shoulder.] Maybe your definition of 'fitting in' is too narrow.

[That's kind of really easy to say when you're not a giant purple robot, but you know, semantics.]
sparkwhisperer: (Default)

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-17 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Luckily Tarn is like 80% shoulder so it will be easy enough for Luke to find a suitable perch]

Hm...So you say. Although I must admit that I find it hard to believe. With only one and a half Decepticons on board, there isn't much to fit into.
t65: (wwwwwwhhh)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-17 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
[The matter is complicated slightly by Luke's attempts to find a perch that won't be easy to reach if Tarn has another episode, but eventually he finds a place that doesn't seem likely to end in death-by-angry-shrugging. He thinks Tarn might have a kernel of goodness somewhere in him, deep beyond the bluster and the accusations.]

[But that doesn't mean Luke trusts him not to squish Luke like a tick if the mood strikes him. He doesn't think Tarn was trying to kill him, back there, but he thinks if it'd happened, it would have been a happy accident at best.]

[Which is to say, Luke's an idiot, but he's not stupid.]

Maybe that's what needs expansion. Is a... a 'Decepticon' all you can be?
sparkwhisperer: (pic#10088641)

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-17 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, Luke, you sweet summer child. Perhaps buried under a mound of salt, insecurity, and genocidal sociopathic tendencies, there may be the smallest speck of goodness hidden deep within him. It just has not seen the light of day in some time.]

I've dedicated my entire life to the Decepticons and I'm not about to stop now. It's all I know how to be, and all I desire to be.

[Fighting the urge to throw the Luke from his shoulder the entire time that he spends situating himself is a feat in itself for Tarn. His hatred for organics runs deep, and the feeling of a scuttling human crawling all over him makes him want to shudder in revulsion.]
t65: (what a nerd.)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-17 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Then you've made your bed. [Luke says, because presumably they have that saying somewhere in the Star Wars universe. He's finally found a perch that looks like it wouldn't be instant death if Luke says the wrong thing. Luke isn't the most prone to thinking ahead and making detailed plans, but he knows it's always worthwhile to just expect that he's going to say something dumb. That's just... life.]

If you don't want to change, you can't move forward. How do you know, if you don't work to improve things in a place where you're disadvantaged, that that won't make you a better Decepticon?
sparkwhisperer: (Default)

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-17 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tarn stares at Luke for a long while. He's actually listening to an organic. He never thought they day would come.

It feels so wrong and out of place given his current surroundings. His familiar office in The Peaceful Tyranny where he so often reflected on bringing chaos and destruction. And yet here he is having a civil conversation with a human.]

I suppose that improving upon a situation where you are in a disadvantage is what the Decepticons are about. But I will not be seen as weak by my fellow crewmates. I would rather stand alone.

[The idea of bending to the crew of the Moira still makes Tarn want to destroy something.]
t65: ('this fucker over here')

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-17 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds like you're just letting them win, to me.

[Luke says it before he thinks how that sounds. He cringes, and then worries about cringing, and then wonders if Tarn can even read human expressions. Luke certainly can't read his expression.]

[Can he read his emotions through the Force? Luke reaches out with his mind and feels... something. It's so unlike anything he's ever felt, he's not sure how to read it. It might not even be Tarn.]

[But that's besides the point.]

If you just stand alone and don't change, you're letting everyone else make the rules about who fits in and what counts as right.
sparkwhisperer: (Default)

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-17 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tarn's optics snap to Luke giving him something of a warning glare. You're treading on thin ice, pal. It's easy enough to read Luke's expression that he can tell that the organic knows that he's misspoken.

With his temper still balanced on a razors edge it would be easy enough for Luke to tip him over the edge. Luckily the comment just barely misses it's mark, so to speak.]

Don't you have something more important to be doing than giving me this speech?

[Tarn sighs softly, getting up from his slumped position on the chair. Part of him hopes that the movement will throw Luke off, but he suspects that his new accessory has a fair enough grip on him after all that he's stood up to today.]

If you truly want me to go back with you, we should go before I change my mind
t65: (nobody)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-17 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Luke does wobble a bit, but he stays in place. So does the smile on Luke's face, now grown into a triumphant and somewhat fond grin.]

You're right, I shouldn't've made you wait. Let's go. [He starts fiddling with his MID, making the call for his contact on the other side to start the link.]
knaval: (we what the land folks love to cook)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-05-17 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[riptide had been waiting ever since he'd first got the call. waiting and vibrating gently with anxiety, both at the prospect of being near tarn again and the prospect of luke being near tarn. they'd only met once, but he doesn't want to know what tarn's vocal ability would do to an organic. he assumes luke is under threat of it - why else would he pull tarn out? why would anyone want to help him?

shaking his head, riptide fires up the link when he gets the call, watching intently for any activity or a shadow of their appearance.

he's got a bad feeling about this.]
sparkwhisperer: (Default)

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-17 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Not long after Luke begins toying with his MID, the now familiar and disorienting vortex of the Ingress swallows them.

Tarn finds his footing easily as they arrive back on Amissis-Re. Luke has worked himself into a difficult spot to reach and instead of fruitlessly trying to reach him, Tarn crouches, extending his arm to the ground to give him something to climb down from. He's had enough of the feeling of little organic hands and feet on his armor for one day.

It isn't until Luke is down that he turns to look at who operated the Ingress to pull them back.

To be honest he had expected Soundwave, or even Megatron with his missplaced illusion of responsibility towards Tarn.

He hadn't even remotely expected Riptide.

The trip through the Ingress from the Peaceful Tyranny has left Tarn feeling scrambled and confused. the surroundings Amissis-Re feel surreal and wrong in comparrisson to the comfortable and familiar surroundings that he'd left behind. Between that, and the Robot Steriods coarsing through his system, Tarn is feeling perhaps even more touchy than normal.]
t65: ('this fucker over here')

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-17 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Luke isn't familiar enough with the way that these Cybertronians feel in the Force to tell when emotions spike. Unconscious of whatever either of them may be feeling, Luke begins the process of hoping down to the ground, aided, as always, by the Force.]

Thanks again, Riptide; I really owe you one.
knaval: (teenagers scare)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-05-17 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[his optics stay locked on tarn for a good few seconds before they flick down to luke. riptide inclines his head, acknowledging the thanks.]

No problem. I think we need to have a [another hard glare at tarn.] talk later, though.

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-17 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tarn immediately locks onto the tone in Riptide's voice. He thinks he knows exactly what riptide has to say.]

No. Whatever you have to say to him, you can say now.

[the razor edge that Tarn is balancing on? Riptide is tipping him right over. Tarn locks eyes with the Autobot, daring him to speak.]
t65: (so many regrets)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-17 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Luke can't read them through the Force, but he's not an idiot. Even he can feel the tension. He remembers Sideswipe's warning about Tarn, and hadn't that come from Riptide? He knows, vaguely, that Riptide and Sideswipe are at ideological odds with others of their race. It would figure Tarn is one of those others.]

[Whatever their disagreement is, now isn't the time for it. He can't take sides, anyway-- this doesn't concern him, and he knows it. It's for them to figure out, but not now.]

[Jedi are peacekeepers.]

I don't think he appreciates being called up to help me out with no warning. [Luke keeps his tone level, bordering on idle.] I really am sorry about that.
knaval: (to step off that set)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-05-17 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[riptide's fists clench so hard the metal creaks. it's obvious, but he's terrified. his spark is hammering inside his chest, but he's got the shovel and can't stop digging.]

Luke, please-- [he squeezes his optics shut for a moment.] go. It's not safe here. Not around him. You need to go, as far away as you can.
sparkwhisperer: (pic#10223855)

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-17 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tarn takes a step away from Luke and Towards Riptide.]

Say it, Riptide. Tell him that he shouldn't have gone back. That he should have left me to rot.

[He's ignoring Luke for now, concentrating solely on the Autobot as he begins to circle him.]

Say it!

[He snapping, all of his emotions about the entire ordeal coming to a head in a raging storm cloud]
t65: (wwwwwwhhh)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-17 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Luke is six feet tall, between two juggernauts pushing double digit height measurements. He still runs to stand between them as though they were human, arms outstretched.]

If this place is dangerous, it's because either of you will make it so. You both have the choice to stand aside!

[Only belatedly does he realize he's yelling. It doesn't feel like his voice will reach them otherwise.]
