Tailgate?
[It seems sort of moot point to call out into the empty room. Clearly he's not there.
Taen's gaze catches the open door. Surely he didn't wander off into the ship alone. He can't possibly be that foolish.
Or can he?
Popping his head out into the hallway Tarn thinks that he may see the tail end of movement rounding a corner at the end of the corridor. It shouldn't matter, he tells himself. Tailgate is an Autobot, if he wants to get lost and possibly eviscerated aboard the Peaceful Tyranny, that's his prerogative.
But, what would his teammates have to say about willingly letting the enemy, however small and unassuming, wander around the ship unsupervised? Collecting all sorts of classified information.
Sighing, he begins down the hallway at a relatively fast clip. Best to find Tailgate before The Pet does. Or worse.
Nickel.]

This place is a lot cleaner than I was expecting.
[He remarks to Tarn as he gets closer.]
I don't know why, but I imagined someplace darker and more menacing.
no subject
You shouldn't wander off alone, Tailgate. Especially with that [Tarn points to the Autobrand on his chest] displayed so proudly on your chest. If any of my crew were to catch you I assure you that it would not be a pleasant experience.
[Tarn begins to try to usher Tailgate back towards his office and away from any prying eyes. He really would prefer to not have to explain this to anyone. At least until he can convince Tailgate to not say or do anything absurd around them.
He's concerned that it might be an impossible feat for the minibot.]
It's best to stay close to me. That is unless you would like to become a chew toy for our pet sparkeater. Why don't we have a conversation over a cube of energon before I show you around?
no subject
[Tailgate vaguely remembers that there's more than one DJD, and that he'd probably have been paste if he'd met any of them. Haha wow, he could have died, how about that.]
You... You have a pet sparkeater?
[That shouldn't be surprising, but he looks up at Tarn in awe anyway as he allows him to shuffle them back to the office.]
Wait, should I cover this?
[He asks worriedly, pointing at his badge. It feels wrong to offer, but Tailgate reminds himself that it's not like he's throwing it away. He'll just cover it with... something. That'll be fine, right?]
no subject
[Tarn gestures for Tailgate to enter the open door to his office before following him in and locking the door behind them.]
Covering your Autobrand may not be a terrible idea, But, for now, why don't you go ahead and have a seat?
[Tarn's quarters are far larger than they are aboard the Moira, featuring his First Editions of Towards peace proudly along one wall, while the wall behind his desk holds a comically large Decepticon symbol. (I'm not fucking making this up. it's there.)]
no subject
Um... Those... Those are n-nice.
[He stammers, pointing at the bodies.]
Do all Decepticons, uh, decorate like that?
no subject
[Tarn Takes a moment to admire his prize posessions.]
First Editions of Megatron's manifesto. A fellow by the name of Terminus had his words inscribed in their viscera before they were shipped back to Cybertron at the beginning of the revolution. Quite clever, wouldn't you say?
[fetching two glasses and a cask of highgrade, Tarn pours out hefty servings and adorns them with drinking straws before having a seat across from his minibot companion. He nudges a glass towards Tailgate as he picks up his own.]
Have you read his work? Towards Peace is truly a work of art. Megatron was full of tremendous ideals-- at least he was before he became an Autobot.
no subject
[He chatters on and picks up the highgrade. It's always nice when people remember to give him a straw, and he drinks from it appreciatively. The highgrade itself is pretty good, but he privately thinks that Swerve's drinks are better.]
It must take a lot of dedication to write the first edition of something on a dead body.
no subject
Shaking his helm, he puts the thought aside.]
Yes, the precision involved is incredible. I have a copy on a datapad back on the Moira that I would be more than happy to lend you if you would like.
[He neglects to mention that he also has these same first editions still safely stored in the cargo bay. He hasn't found a suitable way to display them yet in his quarters.]
Tell me, Tailgate. What made you decide to become an Autobot?
[Taking a sip of his drink, he waits patiently for Tailgate's response. ]
no subject
[There's also the whole thing about the Autobots being the Good Guys and the Decepticons being the Bad Guys but he feels like Tarn wouldn't appreciate hearing this.]
It was Ultra Magnus who taught me everything about the Autobot code, and Rodimus who did my ceremony. Oh, and Ratchet who gave me my badge.
[He fondly touches his badge. After so many months he finally got one of his own.]
I've only had it for a few months now.
How long does it take a Decepticon to get his badge? Is there a test they have to pass or...?
[Do they have to kill someone to prove themselves?]
no subject
It is important to know the ideals behind the Decepticon movement if one is considering becoming a part of it. There is an interview process, but no entrance exam per se.
Now, what I'm about to say next is rather bold, but please hear me out.
[Tarn would love to see the look on Megatron's face if he managed to snap the minibot out from beneath him.]
I can understand why you have come to your decision, but have you ever considered becoming a Decepticon?
no subject
[Tailgate can vaguely see where Tarn is going with this, and he's a little bit intrigued.]
Why do you ask?
no subject
[Tarn narrows his optics briefly, but quickly brushes his irritation aside.]
How very interesting. I wonder how they managed to bully you so throughly into submission. The Autobots never have been very open minded
[Tarn sets his glass down, to tap a finger against the polished metal of his desk.
He had never imagined that there was already a seed of sympathy towards the cause planted in the minibot's mind.]
Perhaps the interest is still there?
no subject
Oh... I dunno... Maybe?
[Now is definitely not the best time to give the wrong answer, Tailgate is hyper aware of that.]
Soundwave said that a badge is made out of part of your sparkchamber. I think that's a pretty big commitment.
no subject
[Tarn rests his fingers on the table, relaxing his shoulders to seem more approchable. He needs to find a way to phrase this next part just right...]
But you're right it is a big commitment. becoming a Decepticon isn't something that you can try on for a few days and then immediately toss aside. It's something that many have chosen to become to ensure that the failures of the past will never come to fruition again.
[Tarn makes a point to gesture at the proudly painted 'waste disposal' on Tailgate's arm.]
To make sure that mechs like you have the opportunity to have the life you deserve outside of simply being pegged as "waste disposal". You have a lot of potential to make a difference, Tailgate.
no subject
No. He shouldn't be considering it! Rodimus and everyone else would be so angry! Upsetting his friends is the last thing he wants to do.
But curiosity is a terrible thing, and he just can't help but wonder what it'd be like.
He shouldn't be wondering. Tailgate the Autobot is a wonderful thing to be.
But would Tailgate the Decepticon be any different from Tailgate the Autobot? He's still Tailgate either way.
What kind of person would he be if he just decided to jump from badge to badge whenever the desire took him?
A person who had the opportunity to. Isn't experiencing these things important?
Doing this is a terrible idea.]
Before I answer, can I ask what you think the Decepticon cause is about? Why do you fight?
