far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

Rey stares down into said swirly space bridge, brooding like she's never brooded before. She'd heard stories from people coming back. And a thought strikes her. "Did you want to see it?" A beat, and then she clarifies. "My home. Jakku. I think... maybe if I went with someone, it would be alright."

He blinks at that, for a second. Does he want to? Does he want to go see another planet? The place his friend is coming from?

"Dude," he says, and grins at her, going from concerned to eager in half a second. "Absolutely. I am there."

Rey can't help but smile back--if there's one thing she likes about Sideswipe, it's that his excitement is infectious. That's a refreshing trait, one not found on Jakku. At all. She takes a breath, and then steps closer to the edge of the platform. "You're sure? It isn't very... pretty."

[ooc; did you want to merge or just go straight jakku??]
redshitlord: (don't love me at all)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-05-15 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey, I used to live in a scrap yard. And the places I hung out on Cybertron weren't that pretty either."

A shrug. "I don't mind."

And then he's standing up, halfway. Staying crouched enough to offer her a hand.

((ooc: we could just do Jakku if you want! ))

Her smile widens, and she takes his hand, squaring her shoulders. She can do this, especially because Sideswipe is going with her. She... trusts him. There aren't many people she'd say that about. "Okay. Okay, let's do it."

[ooc; ok, sounds good to me.]

He's tempted just to scoop her up onto his shoulder, but... something about this moment says it wouldn't be appreciated. So he grins reassuringly at her, carefully closing his fingers around her hand -- not squeezing. Just holding. As delicately as possible.

"I'm right behind you. Okay?"

This is going to be awesome.

Nodding, Rey steps across the platform until she's at the very edge. Rey stares down into the Ingress, wondering what she'd have done if she had seen it before she'd been dragged here. Would she have chosen to enter it? Would she had made the decision to go on a new adventure, abandoning the one she had just started?

She doesn't honestly know.

Closing her eyes, Rey jumps into the void, hoping she'll be taken to Jakku. She wants her friend to see it, to show him all she'd accomplished during her nineteen years stranded on such a harsh planet. She wants someone to be... proud of her.
redshitlord: (BUT YOU'RE SO DAMN HOT)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-05-19 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
He's excited. Probably more than he should be, given what she's told him about this place. But the prospect of seeing yet another new world is... well. He can't not be excited about it. That's just who he is.

But he'll wait until she's ready. This is different than teasing Bee or Grim about nerves. Then it's funny, for fun. This is serious.

When she jumps, he's right behind her. And if he shouts a bit in sheer excitement, surely she can't blame him entirely.

Even though she knows to expect the heat and the rough sand, it's still a shock to her system when she lands face-first in a dune. Rey's fingers curl into the sand, and she keeps her eyes and mouth closed as she sits up. Each time she'd come back, she'd been in a different place. Niima, the graveyard, and now, her home. Seeing the AT-AT makes her heart hurt, but she shoves the feeling down. It looks just as she'd left it, her speeder covered out near one of its legs and the outer hatch welded shut.

Rey stands, fixing her staff over her shoulder and brushing some sand from the folds of her clothing. She takes a deep breath, letting the dry air fill her lungs. After a moment of standing like this, she turns to see if he's made it with her. "Sideswipe?"
redshitlord: (Jooooy ride)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-05-21 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
He wishes he landed gracefully. That would make a better entrance. More dramatic and dynamic and befitting someone who's here to be the moral support. The cool guy.

Instead he faceplants into a dune, and the momentum of it is enough to bury him up to the shoulders in the rough sand. He's sort of left wobbling there until he can twist around and sputter his way out. Coughing sand up out of his intake vents in a fine cloud.

"Ugh, no wonder you didn't wanna come back!"
ventifact: forcevisions @ dw (toxic)

[personal profile] ventifact 2016-05-24 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
She turns just in time to see him exhale a cloud of sand, and it makes her smile. Honestly, she'd be doing the same thing if she had vents like he did. When she spits out sand though, it's just mud. Rey continues to shake sand from her clothing, and rolls her eyes at him in a show of mock upset. "Thanks, that's very helpful. Welcome to Jakku."
redshitlord: (you don't love me at all)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-05-24 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, you're welcome..."

She'll also bear witness to the sight of him shaking all over like a dog. Doing his best to dislodge sand from itchy internal places. Only when that's accomplished does he stand up straight.

"... whoa."
ventifact: easystreet @ dw (centuries)

[personal profile] ventifact 2016-05-25 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
That's definitely... something. Rey tries not to laugh, and mostly succeeds. But at his exclamation, she fidgets a little in the sand. The only other person--well, droid she had shown her home to was BB-8. She clears her throat, and makes an awkward gesture towards the AT-AT. "This is my home." Her words are stunted, uncertain. Unlike a droid, he can form his own opinions and things.
redshitlord: (it doesn't bother me at all)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-05-25 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
It... takes him a minute to figure this out, at first. That she means the husk of the metal thing. His first response is to be creeped out -- but he does his best to smother it down. This isn't like 'space magic', something to tease about. He's not as good with feelings as Grimlock, but...

"Did you build it?"

Good start, right? Not... that any of Team Bee has any room to talk. They sort of live in a junkyard.

[personal profile] ventifact 2016-05-26 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Rey feels... nervous. It's the first time in a while she's felt this way, and it's sort of elating. It also makes her more than a little uncomfortable. The question, at least, distracts her from her emotions. She shakes her head, and starts pointing as she speaks. "No, it's a relic from the Rebellion and the battle that took place over this planet. But I stripped out the insides and welded the auxiliary hatch shut. It's airtight and damn hard to puncture with anything less than a high-powered blaster."
redshitlord: (I'M SO DAMN HOT)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-05-26 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Seriously?"

Okay, that's genuine impressed surprise. Less at her welding it, and more at her stripping it. He should have known humans could do that kind of thing, but still. It's different to actually meet someone who does.

"Dude. You live in a fortress."
ventifact: iconstockpile @ tumblr (she's a rebel)

[personal profile] ventifact 2016-05-26 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
That is about the last thing she expected him to say. A fortress brought to mind high walls and a lot of guards. This was just a fallen battle machine that she'd stumbled upon by mistake. But it's nice to hear, regardless. Rey can't keep the pride out of her smile. "I'd show you the inside, but I don't think you'd fit. I have a few plants in there, and a hammock. And some other stuff I've collected over the years. It isn't much, but it's home."
redshitlord: (A simple celebration)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-05-26 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Probably not, yeah... I can't do that holomatter thing yet, so..."

So he'd rather not trash her cool fortress house. But he does hunker down to look at it better. One finger poking at the hull of the walker a bit, out of curiosity. Sure, he's not going to barge inside, but that doesn't mean he won't touch it.

"Wait, plants? There's plants out here?"
ventifact: theboysareback @ dw (teenage dirtbag)

[personal profile] ventifact 2016-05-28 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Rey watches him, not trying to hide her smile. The Teedo and other scavengers respected her home, but she couldn't say that any of them were ever impressed by it. Plenty of people on Jakku lived inside structures like this. But she isn't about to tell him that, not yet.

She nods, and points into the distance, towards the ship graveyard. "Out that way, and some back towards Niima. They aren't much to look at, but they live and grow here. They survive despite all odds."
redshitlord: (Anyway here's more Joyride)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-05-28 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Heh, so you're a plant, then."

He says it with a broad grin. One that suddenly fades as he realizes the compliment might not actually sound like he intended it to. There's. A pause. And then he jerks his hands up, waving them a little.

"I mean! The survival thing. Not the. Green and living in the dirt thing!"
ventifact: garbagewilldo @ dw (starships)

[personal profile] ventifact 2016-06-01 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
As soon as he says it, Rey has to take a few seconds to process his words. But she breaks out into a wide grin, and laughs. A real laugh of genuine amusement, not a mocking one. "No, no, I like it." Whoever thought being compared to a plant would be a compliment? But it's the sort of thing Rey had never dreamed of hearing, and she likes that.
redshitlord: (don't even need to find a line)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-06-01 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah?"

Which is promptly when he grins back at her. Broad and eager and open. There's probably sand on his face. But oh well. It feels good, this. Someone realizing you're trying to compliment them, accepting it.

Maybe he should do it more often.

"Awesome. I'm gonna remember that, next time we gotta survive somewhere. Plant-Rey, to the rescue."
ventifact: theboysareback @ dw (teenage dirtbag)

[personal profile] ventifact 2016-06-02 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Even though she rolls her eyes and kicks a little sand at him, Rey's heart warms. It's never been this easy for her to talk to someone like this before: free of secrets and hidden agendas. It's new and nice, and she wishes it could always be like this.

But things never stay good for very long on Jakku.

There's a certain feeling in the air that it takes her a minute to pick up on, and it makes the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. She looks into the distance, past her AT-AT, and squints. "I can't show you my home, but I can show you something else." The fallen Star Destroyer is the only place big enough for him to explore, she thinks. The only place big enough to protect them both from the threat of a sandstorm.
redshitlord: (I'M SO DAMN HOT)

[personal profile] redshitlord 2016-06-03 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
He holds his hands up, pretending to shield his face. It's not necessary, since it won't really hurt him, but he's playing along anyway. For fun. It's almost easy to forget they're on some weird version of her home and not just goofing off on the ship.

At least until she speaks up again. He perks his head up, then heaves himself to his feet.

"Awesome. I'm game!"
ventifact: merriestchase @ dw (inside out)

[personal profile] ventifact 2016-06-05 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Rey moves over towards her speeder, and leans over it to reconnect the wires that would give anyone who didn't know better a nasty shock. She'd built it herself, and even though it's top-heavy, she can ride it just fine. After brushing some sand off the seat, she fires it up and grins at him. "Think you can keep up?"
