"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

Before they know it, the two are there. The free fall is replaced by sunlight dappling through the branches of a tree mother and child stand under, grass sways with a strong breeze and idle chatter is brought forward with shift of the winds.
The summer air heady, leaving everything warm and distinctly comfortable. Toriel can pick out the scent of cook outs nearby from the distinct smell of smoke and food being cooked outdoors. The scene is idyllic, monsters mingling outside content and at ease with one another.
"Asriel-?" She's quick to snap her attention to the child at her side as she settles more firmly into their surroundings, their hands still linked. "Are you alright?"

Warm sunlight, the smell of fresh grass, he only vaguely remembered what it was like. The mixed emotions of experiencing sunlight for the first time, combined with the heaviness of his grief. Even now, it felt a little like it did back then, and the hand around Toriel's tightens anxiously when he sees a few human families in the distance.
But... there were monsters too. Basking in sunlight, playing with each other, talking among themselves as if they never were trapped underground in the first place. It's a surreal moment, and Asriel can't bring himself to answer Toriel's question as he watches in quiet awe.
"This... is our world?"

The boss monster isn't surprised this is overwhelming for her son, given the fact he had never seen sunlight, much less the surface like this. He had never seen monster and humans interact so peacefully. "Do you want to walk around?"
"If not, we can stay in the shade here." The tree provides a comfortable amount of shade against the heat of the summer afternoon.

"I-I um..." the voice comes out a little choked, and Asriel tries to blink away the water forming at the corner of his eyes. "I want to walk around. Is it... is it okay?"
To walk around like this, among humans. It doesn't feel like it should be okay, even though there's monster children a few feet away, kicking a ball around with a few other human kids.

It is enough to make her laugh softly, it is better to laugh than cry. "It is a beautiful day outside, we should enjoy it together."

At least, this time... things could like they were, but better. Even if it was only for a little while.
Despite watery eyes, his smile is huge. He nods in agreement. Spending an entire day with his mom on a warm, summer day, he couldn't think of anything more he could really want.
"Yeah... um, w-what should we do first?"
He's eager to walk around and see everything, but there seems to be a lot of activity going on outside. To be honest, he's a little overwhelmed what he should do or see first.

"I believe there are vendors around here, so we could have lunch?" She would offer to cook, but Toriel doesn't want Asriel stuck inside, she wants her son to experience as much as he can of the surface. Human and monster vendors alike have found places amongst the park, amongst the people enjoying the weather. It isn't technically legal, but monsters are in a gray area at the moment.
Toriel is willing to overlook many a thing now to ensure her son has a good day with her. Given some time she might find Asgore, see if Asriel wants to see Asgore. For now, she brushes away the thought.

"What about..." he glances over the vendors, feeling indecisive. And some of the food looks so much different from Underground food. But he does see some monster vendors selling some of his favorite treats.
What his eyes settle on isn't food, but a nearby vendor that's selling brightly colored balloons of different shapes and sizes. Asriel watches in wonder for a little bit, completely forgetting about choosing a place for lunch.
I THOUGHT I REPLIED TO THIS
Seeing her child be able to be... a child leaves Toriel warm and content. "Do you want a balloon, first?"
She never thought they could do this, yet here they were.
