far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

"I... guess not."

Unfortunate circumstance. That's one way of putting it.

He looks around, fiddling with his sleeve. "So... since I don't have that, where do you want to go? There's..." He frowns, thinking back. He thinks he's been here before, of course, but... it's been a while. "There's a river that way, I think. And, uh... a village over there."

"We can walk along the river for a bit! I'm quite taken with the scenery!" Mettaton admitted with an unabashed smile. "Why don't you tell me about yourself while we walk, darling?"

Ginko wasn't going to be getting out of a little chit-chat. If he played into it though, he could probably get Mettaton to talk about himself ad nauseum in order to avoid revealing any personal information. Mettaton probably has enough personal information to share for the both of them anyway.

Yeah, he's definitely kind of hoping he can turn the conversation away from himself. He guesses he should make at least a token effort to give some kind of information first.

"Um... alright." He started for the river, glancing at Mettaton briefly to make sure that he was following and wasn't going to get lost or something.

"I mostly live outside, in places like this... Where did you used to live?"

Mettaton's following closely, though he does look around with deep interest. An interest he shares where Ginko is concerned.

"It must be interesting living the nomadic life!! As for me, I live in a small town not too far from Mount Ebott. Before that, I lived under the mountain, like every other monster had done!!"

Not surprisingly, he is receptive to the question. He does love talking about himself!

"I guess." He nods thoughtfully at Mettaton's answer, his brow furrowing a little. "...I've heard something like that before. From Frisk, I think."

"I'm sure you would have! Frisk lives on the surface too! Except for them, we're all relatively new to the surface, so we haven't yet spread out too far from each other," Mettaton clarifies. "I do tour, of course. How else would I expand my influence?"

It's a rhetorical question of course.
notyetsore: (the glowing bugs are still there)

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-05-15 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh... yeah. That makes sense."

He guesses it does?? Ginko has little idea of what 'influence' Mettaton could be talking about, but he's not sure if it would sound stupid to ask.

Ginko slows down a bit, looking around before altering course a little. "The river should be... just over this way."

Mettaton hums to himself with a nod. Of course he's right, he's always right! As they change course, he becomes curious once more about Ginko's situation.

"So, what's it like here for you? I know it looks beautiful, but is it really just as nice to travel and live?" he asks conversationally. As long as he's not distracted with questions about himself, he's bound to ask questions of his own. Sorry, kid.

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-05-17 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh boy.

"It's..." He thinks for a moment, his gaze dropping to the ground. If it were just a matter of saying what he thinks, that would be one thing, but that... doesn't always go over well.

"...It can get complicated."

[personal profile] mttbrandlegs 2016-05-21 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe one day Ginko would learn that Mettaton values honesty and forwardness.

"Things are only as complicated as you allow them to be in the moment," the bot says firmly. "But that said, I wish that it was not so difficult for you! You are very young to be experiencing hardship!!"

See? Mettaton has no problem saying what he's thinking.
notyetsore: (ok i'll stop talking about glowing bugs)

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-05-22 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. For now, though, all he knows is that if he doesn't complain, he's less likely to get in trouble.

Ginko glances up, his brow furrowing slightly, then looks forward again. "...Thanks, I guess. But it's alright. It's just how it is."

He's not sure how to take that first part, honestly. If it's a matter of how complicated he lets things be, then, well. He's sure screwed that up.

[personal profile] mttbrandlegs 2016-05-22 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Mettaton does wish he could say anything to turn that frown upside-down. It's a little frustrating...but he's not going to give up. He isn't known for that!

His first move is to take a few long strides forward, overtaking Ginko easily.

"Hmm, where's this river then~? I want to see something pretty!!" he said, his tone demanding. Now he seems to be acting like a right brat. Sorry Ginko!

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-05-22 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, Ginko sure isn't going to complain. If Mettaton is talking about the river, that just means he isn't asking about Ginko! Good enough for him.

"Um, right up this way." He speeds up a little, bare feet kicking up a few fallen leaves on the ground as he tries to catch up to Mettaton.

It doesn't take much longer before they reach the river - it's narrow and deep, clear water flowing between smooth-worn stones. Occasionally a shadow or a flash of silver appears for just a moment as fish dart by under the water. An even deeper pond lies just upstream of them, fed by a small waterfall and supplying a constant flow of water to the river, and just downstream sits a shallow cave formed by the rocky ground and a small outcropping.

Ginko wanders to the edge of a broad, flat rock at the edge of the stream and crouches down, staring into the water and then up toward the pond. He only vaguely remembered this place at first, a general idea of the river's location, but now he's getting a better idea of where they actually are.

"...So, here it is."

[personal profile] mttbrandlegs 2016-05-24 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, how convenient! Mettaton makes his way to the flat rock, his heels finding much more purchase on this surface than they had against the softer ground of the wooded area they had come from. They clicked merrily as he moved to Ginko's side, taking a seat almost immediately. He's going to relax, hopefully that's not a problem!

"It's very nice!" he comments brightly, his eye practically glowing with happiness as he watches the fish swim just beyond the surface of the clear water. "Like high definition television broadcast, but in real life!"
notyetsore: (how do i people)

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-06-04 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Ginko sure isn't going to complain. He picks up a stick from the ground and sticks it into the water, watching idly as the river flows around it. "You didn't have places like this before, huh?"

His brow furrows slightly as he thinks; fortunately, he's already been told what 'television' is, so that sentence isn't quite as confusing as it could be. "...What does 'high definition' mean?"
mttbrandlegs: <user name=xamag-undertale site=tumblr.com> (99)

[personal profile] mttbrandlegs 2016-06-05 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
The excited robot glances at the water passing around Ginko's stick, following the rippling path that the stick temporarily cut through the flow.

"High definition means that something is expressed on a screen with great attention to detail. It projects in more pixels per inch," he comments, shooting Ginko a patient smile as he explains. "As for places like this, I'm afraid not! Our weather patterns were extremely fixed. Snowdin was snowy, Waterfall was wet and sometimes experienced rain. Hotland was hot.

It wasn't that complicated, really!! Here, the complexity of life is breathtaking!! It's a gift!"

He's very sincere about that, even nodding silently to himself.
notyetsore: nobody that's who (who is supervising this child)

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-06-06 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Ginko nods thoughtfully as Mettaton explains. It's hard to imagine a place that works that way, the weather constant and unchanging.

"...Yeah. I guess it's pretty nice."

He does mean that; as much trouble as the world around him has caused him, he can't deny that there are some things he enjoys about it.
mttbrandlegs: <user name=xamag-undertale site=tumblr.com> (44)

[personal profile] mttbrandlegs 2016-06-08 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, Mettaton's still getting used to climate changes and the fickle nature of weather aboveground. He hasn't had enough time to adjust yet, so it's great out here as far as he's concerned!

"Do you get to see the stars out here at night?"

This guy has important questions. Deal with it.

He actually has a goal in mind here, but it's not as if he plans to explain it to the quiet young boy. That would defeat the purpose.
notyetsore: (hey look more glowing bugs)

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-06-09 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Another nod.

"Mm-hm. If I'm somewhere without too many trees. It's not as clear as on the ship, though."

Well, yes, it wouldn't be given that the ship is literally in space.
mttbrandlegs: <user name=xamag-undertale site=tumblr.com> (1)

[personal profile] mttbrandlegs 2016-06-10 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I suppose not! Space is really the best place to see stars!"

He takes a pause, glancing over at Ginko curiously.

"So I'm sure you've been on the observation deck, darling, but might I offer a suggestion? Well really, it works anywhere, but I'm fond of doing it on the observation deck for the lovely view. It's relaxing, and I find it eases my tension."

Something he thinks Ginko would benefit from. Kid, relax.

"All you have to do is lay back!"

Which the robot demonstrates at that moment, flopping back onto the rocky surface with a low clang. Being metal means being noisy. And being Mettaton means he stretches his arms out like he doesn't know what personal space even is.

"Lay back and stare into the sky, then think about nothing."
notyetsore: (are you talking to me)

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-06-10 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ginko watches him lie back, still poking at the stream for a couple seconds. He doesn't quite follow Mettaton's lead, but he does at least sit down instead of just couching there.

"Yeah... I did that with Frisk a while ago."

Either he's missing the point that he should do it now, or he's getting it but he doesn't care.
mttbrandlegs: <user name=xamag-undertale site=tumblr.com> (99)

[personal profile] mttbrandlegs 2016-06-11 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh did you? Awww, how lovely! I think Blooky showed them the merits of this activity, so it's good to see that it's getting around!" the robot exclaimed, quite happy that Frisk is passing ghost traditions around.

"Well why don't we do it now?" he presses, looking perfectly happy splayed out as he was. "Even if it's during the day, it's still lovely to just take a rest and think of nothing~"

So therapeutic that he spent a lot of time at the observation deck trying not to think about the weird stuff on the last place the ship had landed.
notyetsore: (hey look more glowing bugs)

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-06-11 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess. Sure."

He lies back carefully, trying not to end up on top of Mettaton's outflung arm, and just kind of... stares up at the sky. Even when he tried this with Frisk, he didn't do too well at the whole 'thinking of nothing' part, but he can at least just lie here and be quiet.
mttbrandlegs: <user name=xamag-undertale site=tumblr.com> (44)

[personal profile] mttbrandlegs 2016-06-14 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
It wouldn't have bothered Mettaton in the least, though it's a bit more rigid than it looks in movement, so Ginko's lucky not to lay on the arm.

There's silence for a while, punctuated only by the noises of the surrounding wildlife and the rushing water. However, very unlike his cousin, Mettaton isn't the best at staying quiet for long periods. So he is the first to break the silence, after about a minute. At least he'd tried to keep quiet.

"Do you know the best thing about staring at the sky during surface daytime, darling? You get to see the clouds, and the shapes they make!"
notyetsore: (the glowing bugs are still there)

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-06-16 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"The shapes...?" He frowns slightly, looking up at the clouds above them. He guesses he'd kind of noticed they looked like things sometimes, but he'd never really focused on it much.
