"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

Unfortunate circumstance. That's one way of putting it.
He looks around, fiddling with his sleeve. "So... since I don't have that, where do you want to go? There's..." He frowns, thinking back. He thinks he's been here before, of course, but... it's been a while. "There's a river that way, I think. And, uh... a village over there."
no subject
Ginko wasn't going to be getting out of a little chit-chat. If he played into it though, he could probably get Mettaton to talk about himself ad nauseum in order to avoid revealing any personal information. Mettaton probably has enough personal information to share for the both of them anyway.
no subject
"Um... alright." He started for the river, glancing at Mettaton briefly to make sure that he was following and wasn't going to get lost or something.
"I mostly live outside, in places like this... Where did you used to live?"
no subject
"It must be interesting living the nomadic life!! As for me, I live in a small town not too far from Mount Ebott. Before that, I lived under the mountain, like every other monster had done!!"
Not surprisingly, he is receptive to the question. He does love talking about himself!

no subject
It's a rhetorical question of course.
no subject
He guesses it does?? Ginko has little idea of what 'influence' Mettaton could be talking about, but he's not sure if it would sound stupid to ask.
Ginko slows down a bit, looking around before altering course a little. "The river should be... just over this way."
no subject
"So, what's it like here for you? I know it looks beautiful, but is it really just as nice to travel and live?" he asks conversationally. As long as he's not distracted with questions about himself, he's bound to ask questions of his own. Sorry, kid.
no subject
"It's..." He thinks for a moment, his gaze dropping to the ground. If it were just a matter of saying what he thinks, that would be one thing, but that... doesn't always go over well.
"...It can get complicated."
no subject
"Things are only as complicated as you allow them to be in the moment," the bot says firmly. "But that said, I wish that it was not so difficult for you! You are very young to be experiencing hardship!!"
See? Mettaton has no problem saying what he's thinking.
no subject
Ginko glances up, his brow furrowing slightly, then looks forward again. "...Thanks, I guess. But it's alright. It's just how it is."
He's not sure how to take that first part, honestly. If it's a matter of how complicated he lets things be, then, well. He's sure screwed that up.
no subject
His first move is to take a few long strides forward, overtaking Ginko easily.
"Hmm, where's this river then~? I want to see something pretty!!" he said, his tone demanding. Now he seems to be acting like a right brat. Sorry Ginko!
no subject
"Um, right up this way." He speeds up a little, bare feet kicking up a few fallen leaves on the ground as he tries to catch up to Mettaton.
It doesn't take much longer before they reach the river - it's narrow and deep, clear water flowing between smooth-worn stones. Occasionally a shadow or a flash of silver appears for just a moment as fish dart by under the water. An even deeper pond lies just upstream of them, fed by a small waterfall and supplying a constant flow of water to the river, and just downstream sits a shallow cave formed by the rocky ground and a small outcropping.
Ginko wanders to the edge of a broad, flat rock at the edge of the stream and crouches down, staring into the water and then up toward the pond. He only vaguely remembered this place at first, a general idea of the river's location, but now he's getting a better idea of where they actually are.
"...So, here it is."
no subject
"It's very nice!" he comments brightly, his eye practically glowing with happiness as he watches the fish swim just beyond the surface of the clear water. "Like high definition television broadcast, but in real life!"
no subject
His brow furrows slightly as he thinks; fortunately, he's already been told what 'television' is, so that sentence isn't quite as confusing as it could be. "...What does 'high definition' mean?"
no subject
"High definition means that something is expressed on a screen with great attention to detail. It projects in more pixels per inch," he comments, shooting Ginko a patient smile as he explains. "As for places like this, I'm afraid not! Our weather patterns were extremely fixed. Snowdin was snowy, Waterfall was wet and sometimes experienced rain. Hotland was hot.
It wasn't that complicated, really!! Here, the complexity of life is breathtaking!! It's a gift!"
He's very sincere about that, even nodding silently to himself.
no subject
"...Yeah. I guess it's pretty nice."
He does mean that; as much trouble as the world around him has caused him, he can't deny that there are some things he enjoys about it.
no subject
"Do you get to see the stars out here at night?"
This guy has important questions. Deal with it.
He actually has a goal in mind here, but it's not as if he plans to explain it to the quiet young boy. That would defeat the purpose.
no subject
"Mm-hm. If I'm somewhere without too many trees. It's not as clear as on the ship, though."
Well, yes, it wouldn't be given that the ship is literally in space.
no subject
He takes a pause, glancing over at Ginko curiously.
"So I'm sure you've been on the observation deck, darling, but might I offer a suggestion? Well really, it works anywhere, but I'm fond of doing it on the observation deck for the lovely view. It's relaxing, and I find it eases my tension."
Something he thinks Ginko would benefit from. Kid, relax.
"All you have to do is lay back!"
Which the robot demonstrates at that moment, flopping back onto the rocky surface with a low clang. Being metal means being noisy. And being Mettaton means he stretches his arms out like he doesn't know what personal space even is.
"Lay back and stare into the sky, then think about nothing."
no subject
"Yeah... I did that with Frisk a while ago."
Either he's missing the point that he should do it now, or he's getting it but he doesn't care.
no subject
"Well why don't we do it now?" he presses, looking perfectly happy splayed out as he was. "Even if it's during the day, it's still lovely to just take a rest and think of nothing~"
So therapeutic that he spent a lot of time at the observation deck trying not to think about the weird stuff on the last place the ship had landed.
no subject
He lies back carefully, trying not to end up on top of Mettaton's outflung arm, and just kind of... stares up at the sky. Even when he tried this with Frisk, he didn't do too well at the whole 'thinking of nothing' part, but he can at least just lie here and be quiet.
no subject
There's silence for a while, punctuated only by the noises of the surrounding wildlife and the rushing water. However, very unlike his cousin, Mettaton isn't the best at staying quiet for long periods. So he is the first to break the silence, after about a minute. At least he'd tried to keep quiet.
"Do you know the best thing about staring at the sky during surface daytime, darling? You get to see the clouds, and the shapes they make!"
no subject
