[It doesn't entirely recover; he's trying to humor Papyrus's good mood for at least a while, but there's lines he can read between of an empty town with signs of life entirely too recently and someone who'd lived there not wanting to think about why.]
[He follows after, the snow melting a little under his footsteps while his heat generation makes sure he hasn't even really noticed the cold.] It looks like you've been doing pretty well.
[The outside alone looked like a nice enough place, much better kept than the old horror-movie reject he'd been living in while he was in Ryslig.]

[The interior of the house is warm, obviously lived-in. It smells like baked goods and terrible spaghetti. The kitchen ahead of them looks normal, except for the sink that's so tall it seems to have been built specifically for Papyrus. And just inside the door, on a plate, there's a rock for some reason. It's covered in rainbow sprinkles.]
Wowie! It looks just like it did when I... when I left it!

[Any question is delayed by catching that slip; a quiet uncomfortable rumble gets past even if he's got his expression pretty under control. He remembers Ryslig and hearing about people who were dead in their worlds, it's not an idea that's foreign to him.]
[And the place is reminding him more and more of Baron castle after the Maenad had taken over; empty and wrong.]
[His pensive stare at the rock at least is some cover for being torn between trying to corner Papyrus about what happened, and ... letting someone that's probably been through too much already cling to good memories a little longer; to his mind, the option he takes is "chickening out".]
Is this something for the local spirits?
[Yep. He's gesturing at the rock.]
no subject
[He folds his arms and taps his foot impatiently.]
But he never feeds Rocky or takes him on walks, so I have to do it.
no subject
[On the one hand, there's not really any sign the rock is anything other than a rock.]
[On the other, around monsters and the amount of magic he's caught on tends to be around them, he's not sure he can assume it -IS-, in fact, a normal rock.]
...Perhaps we should take him back to the ship with us - the town seems empty, after all, and if there's no-one here to take care of him...
no subject
I can't believe I never thought of that! Of course we should bring him along! That way, he won't be so lonely and I'll be around to make sure Sans is taking care of him.
no subject
I don't think I'd want to leave anyone behind alone. [At some point during the last seventeen years, he learned at least a vague attempt at tact!]
[That does bring up the worrying question, though.] ...Where is everyone?
no subject
Eh? Oh! Uh... well...
[He scratches the back of his neck, looking a little hesitant still.]
I believe they must have all... gone on vacation!
