far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

There's a lump in Elle's throat. She wets her lips before she starts to reply. "It... It can be... hard. To see past who you want someone to be... to who they really are."

Something she had to learn the hard way. She had been so blind with Mr. House. When she looks back, she thinks she wanted to be blind. That she chose it. Everyone else questioned House, his motives, what was really going on. Cass was right. If someone promised me all the lights of Vegas, I'd consider it, too... but I wouldn't say yes until I saw what was behind the curtain. They were all right.

And the same thing happened with Dean, too. That holotape she found in Dean's safe, the one he was clearly planning on using to blackmail Vera with... She had been so stricken when she first listened to it. But, looking back... She shouldn't have been surprised. That was the kind of person Dean was -- who Dean is. And there were signs the whole time.

Maybe these aren't the best examples, not with what Dean did, not with the way things went with Mr. House. Kazuhira has nothing but nice things to say about his friend. But... The principle, it's the same, isn't it?

"It always feels... so obvious, when we look back." Her voice is quiet, almost lilting, it's so... nearly wistful.

[Zam makes a noncommittal noise at that. She hadn’t thought about pulling the weapon because of who Taun We was. It was because of what she said. But Miles doesn’t have to know that in so many words.

The question gets a tense pause and then a gesture at the child’s room around them.]

Who do you think?

It's your hobby to wear armor and never take it off? On a mountain that you just said isn't dangerous.

[Fiora isn't really accusing him, she's not being confrontational - but the disbelief is apparent in her voice. Finally, they're at the top of the ridge, and she stops and turns to face him.]

Listen... you don't have to tell me if you really don't want to. But I know that isn't the truth. You got a big birthmark on your face or something? I'm not going to judge. A hunk of scrap like me is the last person who's going to judge you.

Frisk tries to heave the armful of snow at Ginko before he gets too high, but it falls short and misses him entirely. But rather than really be upset, Frisk just laughs and starts climbing up after Ginko.

"Wait up, haha!

"Nah."

The response may not sound exceptionally enthusiastic, but honestly, Ginko doesn't really know how he's supposed to sound so this is about the best he's likely to manage - even if he is actually having a good time.

After a while he plunks himself down on a branch, clinging to the trunk as he leans over to watch Frisk follow him.

Very, very carefully, Nihlus takes a moment to try and clamp down on his tongue. Spirits knows he's done awful things for the sake of maintaining peace. He has no higher moral ground to speak of, not even where children were concerned, and pissing Texas off while in unfamiliar territory wasn't the best of ideas.

"Here I was thinking you were against brainwashing or something."

His tone is light and conversational and sharp as a shard of glass.

Without waiting for an answer, he turns to Sister and asks, "Is it just you and the pile of mayonnaise here then? Or are there others?"

Like this 'Sarge', perhaps?

These people had some pretty weird nicknames even for human military.

Tex doesn't answer. The barb is noted and its accuracy is uncomfortable. She would have to explain the circumstances of the war to Nihlus later. There was a lot more to it than two factions who were opposed to each other. She shifts, but that's all.

"It's just me," Sister says in response to Nihlus's question. "Everyone else transferred out ages ago."

"This is a waste of our time," Tex says. "I should have known that we'd get sent here. We're within a few hours' drive of a better-equipped facility—a power plant. Sister, can we take your Warthog?"

"Only if you take me with you," Sister says. "I souped up that baby myself, I don't want you to drive off with it."

No, it's-- it's nothing like that.

[He feels awful now, especially when she refers to herself as scrap. He doesn't want her to feel ashamed of herself, but how can he tell her not to be when he's being so hypocritical hiding things?]

It's complicated, you might-- you might freak out if I showed you.

[He reaches up to brush a few of those tears away with his knuckles.]

I dunno, luv. I ain't the best example, but I used to do some pretty bad shit. Look at me now though, yeah? Tryin' to do right even if I fuck it up sometimes.

[Eggsy knows that not all people change, they don't want to or nobody's there to remind them that they can, but he really does believe that everyone can change. It might not be easy, might slip up along the way, but there's good there and he wants them to know that.]

Point is, won't be easy, but easy's borin', and it'll take time, but none of this has to happen right now. You don't even gotta think about what I said. A couple days from now, you might go, well fuck him and that's that. Maybe you won't.

[He drops his hand to their shoulder, squeezing gently.]

The only thing that's important right now is decidin' how much sweets we can eat.

[They hang their head for a long moment, before finally nodding. This is something they'd rather put off, and right now they have one of the greatest distractions known to humanity: tantalizing food.]

[Chara turns without lifting their head all the way, scrubbing their sleeve on their face again and glaring at a box of bonbons. It looks like it might be tasty. Chara takes it and a box next to it, stuffing it into the crook of their arm. By the time they finally come back to Eggsy their thoughts have turned inward, and they're carrying an impressive array of sweets.]

"Come oooooon!"

Frisk huffs and puffs, hauling themself up the tree. They don't climb them too often, and they're a little out of practice. Stopping on a branch a bit below the one Ginko is perched on, they look up and grin before batting at one dangling foot.

"Meow!"
notyetsore: (are you talking to me)

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-06-24 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Ginko kicks his feet a little as he waits for them to catch up. When they bat at his foot he stops, blinking in surprise.

"What are you doing?"

[personal profile] meyneth 2016-06-25 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I promise I won't. [She shakes her head, insisting that the answer is 'no.' Fiora has seen just about everything now, thanks to the Moira - talking animals, talking skeletons, dragons, real-life robots, everything.]

I know you, and I know you're kind, and gentle. I'm not going to be afraid.

I see. That's disappointing, that it doesn't stick. But--oh.

[Gregor feels heat rise slowly in his cheeks--he had no idea he blushed so easily until he met Eggsy.]

I mean... if you'd like. I'd love to meet them, of course, but if you aren't comfortable, I--I certainly wouldn't take it as an insult. We don't have to.
commontype: (41)

[personal profile] commontype 2016-06-27 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Course I do. Want ya to meet them.

[He cuts himself off before finishing the rest of that thought. Eggsy wants Gregor to meet his family in a way that everyone would remember it, but the future is uncertain at best and he's got no clue if it'll ever happen. He doesn't want to think about something like that when it would only leave him jaded.]

See, mum will probably be all, Eggsy babe, who's this? Get all flustered cause you're tall and handsome. Dais will be a little nervous at first, but then make ya hold her the rest the time we're there.

Frisk laughs and bats at Ginko's foot again.

"I'm a cat now! Meow!"
notyetsore: (how do i people)

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-06-27 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Oh. You look a lot as a cat like you did as a human." Apparently Ginko isn't actually enough of a Certified Fun Ruiner to actually insist that they're not a cat.

He squirms around on the branch to lie on his stomach, which isn't actually any less precarious than how he had been sitting before, and reaches down to try and catch their hand if they bat at him again.

"Workaholism IS a widespread epidemic amongst Turians."

It's not entirely a joke, to be honest.

"What do you even do all the time anyways?" Nihlus puffs. "Relaxing. Spirits, you make arbitrating sound like a perpetual lunch break."

Another galaxy can't stop Aurelia from being obnoxious.

"I do say, though, if you infect me with that workaholism I shall have to put us both down for our own goods."

Is she being serious? It's... actually hard to tell.

"You will? Really? Wowie! You're such a cool friend!"

Papyrus practically dances in place in his excitement. They're going to do so much neat stuff, and he's going to learn how to drive!

As Niko speaks again, Papyrus salutes and tries to stop rattling around so much. "Okay okay, friend! Never fear, I'll be right here when you come back!"

He means it too. He's not going to wander, not even to check out the cool cars or interesting scenery surrounding him.
armoured: (sad] blood seal)

[personal profile] armoured 2016-06-29 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Despite her reassurances, he still feels a cold pit of dread as he reaches up and removes his helmet to reveal his armour is completely hollow within. He bends down slightly so she can see inside, to the seal drawn in blood on the back of his neck.]

I am human, I am-- it's just...

[He replaces his helmet to explain.]

In alchemy there's a principle that everything else is built on, that's equivalent exchange. It's the rule that you can't take more than you give, what you create has to be of equal value to the components. That's why there are-- there are things it's forbidden for an alchemist to do. One of those is human transmutation, creating life.

But my brother and I, we thought we could do it anyway. We thought maybe it wouldn't matter if we broke that rule just the once. We didn't want to do anything terrible, we just wanted to see our Mom smile again after she died. So we tried-- we had all the ingredients that make up a human body, but we couldn't pay the price for her soul.

[His voice grows softer, slight break in the words.]

The transmutation rebounded on us and took the price that way. Brother lost his leg, and I lost my entire body. I would have died, but Ed gave up his arm to bind my soul to this suit of armour in order to save my life.

[What a good dude you turned out to be, Kain. Papyrus was grinning and nodding eagerly, gathering up Rocky and his little habitat, when Kain's question causes him to falter.]

Eh? Oh! Uh... well...

[He scratches the back of his neck, looking a little hesitant still.]

I believe they must have all... gone on vacation!
