far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

Bucky listens, but doesn't add much to the story. Honestly, there's not much he can say about it. He does many things behind his partner's back, but the man has to see that he is as duty bound to his country as Cap. If he's told to kill, he's going to ask how many targets.

"Damned if you do, damned if you don't sometimes," he finally tells Miller. That's how he sees his friend's dilemma. But he's thankful the man changes the subject as they round one of the all-terrain vehicles and get in, with him in the driver's seat. Aw yeah! No sidecar for Bucky today!

"Ooo I'm so excited! Like a kid in a candy store!" Or a soldier in an armory. Turning the ignition, Bucky rattles the stick shift a moment before shifting into first gear and following the man's directions.

"Jesus... This place is fuckin' enormous. How do you not get lost?"

[ miles grins despite himself. okay, so his primary interest is really in getting to know luke so he can solve this fast-penta problem, but he's so damned affable it's almost impossible not to like him. he listens to the awe in luke's voice and tilts his head at luke with a slightly arched eyebrow. ]

Let me guess. You're from some kind of desert planet?

"Whatever, it's not like it's your fault," Peridot tries to reassure him, though she somehow still manages to sound grumpy when she says it. "I wouldn't worry too much about me, though. They may have us out numbered here, but I definitely have them all out gunned," she says with a malicious grin, tapping her gem knowingly. Just because she doesn't have her limb enhancers, doesn't mean she's unarmed.

Yes.

[It's selfish of her, and despite the fact that this is her home, it feels like theft--but the idea of leaving it here is worse. If she can't rescue her family, she can at least take back something of Alderaan.

If she can. But they were already likely to return in these clothes--the Ingress wouldn't drag them through naked, would it? (After the decontamination stops a few weeks ago, she's not confident it wouldn't.)

She takes a step forward and, glancing around the empty corridor, lifts the moss painting down. It's not an especially large piece; it fits under Leia's arm easily. She glances back]

We'd better get our clothes. [She's planning on carrying hers out--this dress is too pretty to leave behind.] Would you like any souvenirs, while we're here?

[Her voice is light as she can make it, but the weight of the knowledge that all this will disappear is starting to find its way to the front of her mind.]

Liquid's room had bunkbeds, so it wasn't like he had to sleep in something weird, at least. Although maybe he'd prefer a bed all to himself rather than one he technically had to share. But he did what he had to. They all did.

"Mantis is our psychological warfare specialist. He can get inside people's minds, find their secrets... or implant things of his own making. He can create illusions, make someone think things are real, destroy them from the inside out. Octopus is a master of disguise. There's no one he can't impersonate." It was so easy to slip back into present tense having heard Octopus's voice like that.

Ah- [Luke ducks his head bashfully, scratching the back of his neck in what would be an obvious tell if he had anything to hide. Does he really act like that much of an Outer Rim bumpkin?] It's that obvious, huh?

"I helped design it. Snake managed to earn the GMP for all the platforms and I approved and facilitated them. It was about all I could do outside of the motivational speeches."

Speaking of which, he had to prop his hip against the vehicle, put his crutch in the back open it up carefully and lower himself into it with calculated effort, make sure his coat was tucked in before he closed the door, and then put on the seatbelt. With only one arm to use, this seemed like a bigger ordeal than one would think.

"It'll help keep you safe. People on the ship get into trouble often enough, don't want to see you in another situation like you were in."

The gasp that comes out of Peridot's mouth when she looks towards where he's pointing is, frankly, embarrassing for the sheer intensity of her mingled enthusiasm and awe. "Oh. My. Stars," she hisses, drinking in the sight for a long moment, stopping in her tracks.

Then the gem giggles and scampers past Niko to get a closer look, a broad dopey grin on her face. "A "T-Rex", you said? It's HUGE! I mean, so's the whale, but this thing-- What a brute!" Peridot cackles with delight, spreading her arms wide as if to match the skeleton for it's size.

"Yeah, it uh... is a Tyrannosaurus Rex." He laid into those R's really heavily as he read it out loud. "Latin words so I don't remember what it means. Like 'Evil Lizard King' or something like that. I'm probably wrong."

Close enough.

"You know, they have models of skeletons you can put together in the gift shop. It won't be real big but you can take it home. Maybe they have information on them too. Oh, also there is Sabertooth Tiger."

He gestured off towards the skeleton of an enormous cat.

[ miles just laughs, shaking his head. ]

My mother's from a desert planet. Beta Colony. [ and if luke paid enough attention to the label on the hypospray, he'll recognize that name. ] The surface is too hot for human habitation, so they mostly live in domes underground. I'm told that when she first came to Barrayar, she couldn't get enough of the open sky and all that water. The lake behind one of my family's houses is bigger than the largest body of water on Beta.

"You do remember most dragons are way more dangerous than me, right? Almost all of the NightWings are adults, who can read minds and are much, much bigger than I am. I'm not really sure what you could do that would help if a bunch of them attacked us." He knew gems had some pretty amazing abilities, but it was hard to imagine Peridot taking on someone like Morrowseer and coming out on top.

[Tarn nods, keying open the door to the bridge. Everything is basically how he remembers it, but something still seems off about it.

Like hes misremembering or something essential is missing that he can't quite place. Determined not to seem out of sorts in front of Soundwave, he clears his throat to introduce his crew, despite them barely acknowledging his entry into the room.]

It seems that my crew is busy. As you know, we have Tesarus, Helex, Vos, and our List keeper, Kaon.

[Tarn lists the names as he gestures to the mech assigned to it. Each turns around briefly and either nods in acknowledgement or salutes, before turning back to their work.

Despite being their commander, Tarn can't help but feel somehow out of place. It's all very surreal.

Perhaps its just the residual effects of the Ingress]

Why don't we move on. There is plenty to see aboard the ship and I would very much like to discuss the future of the Decepticons and my Division

[As far as art theft goes it's pretty damn noble. Not that he's inclined to phrase it that way.

The question gives him a moment's pause, but he shakes his head. Han wouldn't even know what to look for.]

I'll carry anything you want.

[Truth is he's not sure he trusts it-- he's not so sure they're really here, that everything won't disappear into memory when they find themselves back on Amissis-Re. And beyond that... There's so much here, left behind and doomed to destruction, maybe they shouldn't be fixating on it.

But a few things can't hurt, right?]
peridork: (Hold up there buddy)

[personal profile] peridork 2016-05-18 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
She skitters off to look at that too, her gaze lingering on those massive fangs for which the creature is named. "These teeth!" she whispers, gingerly reaching a hand out and stopping just short of actually touching it. "Wait. You said this is a tiger? Like, those big striped things?"
peridork: (blast some squats)

"Just because they can read the minds of other dragons doesn't mean they can read my mind," she says, shrugging indifferently. "Besides, size won't make much of a difference when I'm wielding this level of weaponry!"

As she's bragging she fishes around in the rucksack she has packed with her and whips out one of her custom-built blasters, brandishing it with a flourish. It still probably wouldn't do much good against a dragon like Morrowseer, but Peridot has no barometer for that. She's just expecting tech to win out over raw physical strength.

She jerks with surprise at the sound of his voice, immediately frowning at the corniness of that joke. She can tell the statement is intended to be funny, but for the life of her she doesn't understand how.

Peridot's far too preoccupied to give it much thought or notice, though. She turns back to staring into the depths of the portal, frowning thoughtfully. "Ratchet," she acknowledges, before heaving a sigh. "I'm fine, I'm just... contemplating the numerous mysteries of this vexing device."

She casts the lombax a sideways look, cocking her head slightly. "Have you gone through yet?"

[Luke paid attention, but only for like five minutes. 'Beta colony' rings a bell, but it's one of those little ones they have on convenience store doors. Luke thinks it sounds familiar, but he can't place it, so he shrugs it off without a thought.]

[He thinks, after hearing Miles' story, he can sum up the situation on Tatooine very succinctly:]
On Tatooine, my uncle, who lived there his whole life, was a moisture farmer.

[And, if fate hadn't been fate, Luke would have been as well.]

When I saw that... well, you saw what happened.

What do you wanna do, Loki? Find a way out or nick some treasure?

[Eggsy soaks up that small smile, enamored by it and the God standing beside him. He's never been to a place like this, the only thing outside of Earth being what he's come across while on the Moira.]

Somethin' else? I don't care, yeah?

[He doesn't understand, not really. All of this is new to him, and Eggsy doesn't know enough about Loki's past to know what this place means to him. He wants to, though.]

Wanna look around Asgardia some, if it ain't dangerous?

"Fifty?" She laughs the sort of incredulous, shocked sort of laugh of someone having trouble believing something. "No way. You're just messin' with me."

She shakes her head, knocking her shoulder against him in a small gesture of comradery. He's playing a joke on her, obviously. Just like the boys used to do with her. She'd never met anyone that old and was at the age that she had trouble believing anything she had no experience with. "Quit with tryin' to be funny and show me around, okay? Wanna pretend bein' good a survival makes ya live, then ya gotta show me."

Splicers. [She answers immediately, keeping low while taking stock of the area around them. Quiet, seemingly deserted, she can see a flash of blue behind the front desk. Elizabeth looks back and forth and then creeps towards it.]

They're unhinged, and usually armed. Look around, you might be able to find a weapon.

Wanda-- [Elizabeth turns around with her hands extended. Why did Wanda follow her? She should have stayed away, doesn't she know that--]

[No, obviously she doesn't know because Elizabeth said nothing before running. After taking a few moments, she explains.]
If you're seen with me, some of these people might come after you. They'll think they're protecting me, you saw that giant statue out there? [She gestures with her whole hand.] They think I'm an angel. They think I'm their savior.

[He looks from Cassandra to the lightsaber then back at her again with a small smile.]

It's a lightsaber. It's a Jedi weapon...from back home.

[At least, even if this galaxy away from his own, and a world away from that, it can still inspire the same sort of curiosity it had when he'd seen his first.]

[personal profile] ex_forcechoke292 2016-05-18 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
[It isan unfortunate side-effect of all-encompassing armor, something Anakin had brought up more than once. (With any company other than his own, at least.) But he'd never thought he'd be on the side of testing that out.

First time for everything.

Another blast bolt deflected, and he force-shoves the second trooper into the wall...with considerable force. Enough to leave the trooper dazed and sliding down to the floor.]

They can't be clones anymore [he muses aloud, now that the worst of it is passed], they'd never go down like that.

[Or, untrained, sure they might. Not his.]

You think anyone heard that?

Oh yeah? [Sans lets the snow drop, following Luke's lead. It's too bad. Effort isn't something he usually likes to expend, but in the service of stupid fun things he has some leeway. [ stupid fucking stubborn wash. and tex. stupid fucking stubborn freelancers.

church can't get either of them listen to him ever; he would think with all his infinite fucking wisdom that people would take him a little more seriously, but nope. that's clearly not happening. wash argues, and church would grit his teeth if he had any, muttering a quiet curse as his fingers curl around his elbow where he holds him upright, squeezing lightly.
]

Wow, might be? You sound so fucking sure right now.

[ thanks for that vote of confidence, wash.

his pistol is still on the ground, and church eyeballs it as tex lands blow after blow on maine, forcing him back. even if he can't shoot, maybe wash can. he's a good shot, right? that's his thing, shooting shit and not missing. he squeezes wash's elbow again to draw his attention and jabs a finger with his free hand toward the fallen gun.
]

Do you think you can shoot?

[ meanwhile, some twelve feet away from where wash and church are having their casual chat, tex gets maine on his back before she staggers, and despite the blow knocking the air out of his lungs, he's quick to roll back onto his feet. she's weak just for that one second, and that one second is all he needs to lunge toward her, aiming to plant a shoulder into her middle and drive her back into the nearest surface. ]
