far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

[The desk flips easily, shattering glass and datapads under it's weight.

Tarn is a bit stunned that Luke was yet again able to dodge him. He stares wordlessly, glaring at the creature clinging to his treaded shoulder.]

You shouldn't have come here, Luke Skywalker.

[He should kill him. It would be a very simple task. But, to his credit he doesn't try to eviscerate him. Tarn gives his shoulder a jerk in a half-hearted attempt to throw him off balance.

His brief flare of rage begins to fade, leaving him feeling exhausted. As much as he wishes it weren't true, it does seem like Luke has some valid points. At least for now he seems to be safe from any further threats on his life.

Tarn slumps into a chair across from his desk. He doesn't want to leave, but it seems that Luke isn't giving him much choice in the matter. Heaving a heavy, frusterated sigh, Tarn glances at his shoulder accessory from the corner of his eye]

So. What now?
t65: (weird buddhist headstands.)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-16 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Luke just kind of holds on for dear life and tries to ride out the fiasco. It's not like he's never done that before.] You can- you can come back with me. There's always room for you, there.

[Look, he's trying to be encouraging, here.]

[To carry Alderaan's memory without carrying a billion souls' worth of loss and pain--it's so tempting, it's frightening. She's spent so long with the grief of her losses that it feels like betrayal to think of leaving them behind. But there are days when the weight of being Alderaan's surviving daughter threatens to crush her beneath it.

She's still being snippy, but she genuinely wants the answer to her question. It's a strange place to be.]

And just how do you do that?
notyetsore: (the glowing bugs are still there)

[personal profile] notyetsore 2016-05-16 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
...Oh.

[Well, he may not totally get it, but he's not so confused that he can't accept that for now.]

If... if you're sure.

[He edges a bit closer to Kaworu.]
t65: (yes yoda i know)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-16 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Patience. [If Yoda knows he's gotten a foot in the door, he doesn't show it. Then again, Luke doubts he'd care if he knew.] Rush, a Jedi does not. Begin to let go, you must, and do it slowly. Only when you have set aside what you have, can you set aside what you have lost.

Ouch. [ miles winces. ] Don't suppose you had any time to figure out why, then.

[ it must be very strange, coming back to a world in which she knows she's already dead. would she even want to come back? he can't tell if she's glad to be here or not. well, if not, he could think of a few places for her to go, if she was willing. ]

This doesn't look like a cut and run to me, either. Most bounty hunters aren't big fans of loose ends or a trail, but you'd know better than me, I suppose.

[ he falls silent at her cue, listening hard. he hears it, alright, and he glances up at her, readying his stunner, his voice low. ]

Another old friend?

[Father looks impressed, and conversation proceeds from there. Han never seems entirely comfortable--to Leia, anyway--but he's doggedly social, answering questions and telling stories over a salad course, roast gorak bird in malla petals, and a dessert of starblossom drenched in chimbak wine.

It's all so Alderaanian, Leia could weep...but, of course, she can't. She focuses on the conversation and the taste of the wine they drink, and when attention is off them for a moment, she slips a hand under the table to squeeze Han's thigh gently. He's everything she could hope for tonight.

When things are winding down, Leia speaks brightly.]

I'd better help Han settle in. He'll need a rest before he can start out again.

[When Mother speaks, it's with a deceptively warm voice.] The blue guest room should be ready for a visitor.

Then that's the one I'll show him. [She knows perfectly well what that means--it's a room much closer to her parents' bedroom than her own--but it hardly matters when they're unlikely to stay the night. She gets up and, in a show of affection that's a little overboard by their family's standards under normal circumstances, hugs and kisses her parents and aunts one more time, murmuring I love you under her breath.

It's not much. It doesn't feel like enough. But it's what she has. She waits until she and Han are out of earshot before she leans in and murmurs to him.]
You were wonderful.
forwardmomentum: (tell me that you're alright)

[personal profile] forwardmomentum 2016-05-16 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, this? [ miles lifts his casted arm at luke before he pushes himself to his feet, shaking some water from his sodden boots. ] It's broken, but it's alright. It's mostly healed by now. This, though...

[ miles plucks his sling from the edge of the riverbank and shakes it a little -- it's just as wet as he is from the waist down -- and makes a face. it's a little stretched out and torn from its labors as a tether. ]

This may have outlived its usefulness. [ he lets out a small sigh, mostly for effect. ] I'm never one for leaving troops behind, but I'm afraid this is where we part ways. You served me well, soldier. I shall toast to your memory.

[ with that odd and needlessly dramatic proclamation, miles drops the now-useless sling back to the ground and shrugs. he's nearly ready to have the damn cast off anyway. ]

If you wanted to learn to swim, I could teach you once this cast's off. I've been swimming since I was a kid. Although, er, I don't think river rapids are a great beginner's course.

And if I like what I have?

[She wants to keep that.]
t65: (i love the lighting in this icon)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-16 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Luke snorts. Military humor was a staple of... oh, the last three years of his life. Which is to say, he appreciates the display.]

Rapids-? Is that... [Luke's never heard that term for water before, but it's pretty self-explanatory.] I guess I wasn't thinking. Or, well, I was, I just didn't think it'd be hard. I've never seen anything like this before.

[He gestures to the river. Luke can't quite keep the wonder out of his voice, try as he might to seem casual. Showers are one thing, and he appreciates them deeply despite taking them regularly for the past few years, but natural water sources just flowing freely in the dirt? It's amazing.]
t65: (yoda owes me money)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-16 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Luke watches as Yoda stops, bows his head, and looks actually mournful.] Then lost, you are. [And then he starts walking again.]

[personal profile] imahologram 2016-05-16 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[When Yoda starts walking again, Leia doesn't. She swallows hard and, for the first time in a long while, looks back at Luke.

It's rare that she finds herself speechless. But arguing with Yoda is like arguing with a stone, and the thought that there really might not be a solution for her is one of the most despairing she's ever entertained.

She'll be able to dismiss it in a minute or two, but the shock of how easily Yoda could turn away from her is something she has to consciously shake.]
t65: (yoda get off my back.)

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-16 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[And Luke waits up for his sister, as Yoda keeps walking, seemingly unconscious of them both. It isn't long until the mist and the darkness of Dagobah obscure him completely.]

[Luke walks over and gently, carefully, takes his sister's hand.]
I'm sorry.

[When you get him going, Han is a pretty decent storyteller. He's a little hampered by the necessity of leaving out anything that's obviously after the destruction of Alderaan, and some of the more colorful ones get clipped or redirected, but there are enough reasonably light-hearted tall tales to keep them from too much prying, and the food is good, if richer than he'd ever have anywhere else.

He's even smart enough not to say anything about sleeping arrangements. The Organas have been remarkably hospitable and Alderaan is known for being a peaceful place, but everyone's got their limits. While she says her goodbyes he stands aside, not too attentive because it's bound to be hard enough without his eyes on her.

Answering that with a smile, he nods.]

Not so bad. [Actually pretty nice, just completely impossible.] So, now what?
commontype: (52)

[personal profile] commontype 2016-05-16 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Eggsy's kind of surprised that Leonard agreed to this at all. They were in a place that wasn't his, heading down a street to see people he didn't know, but he wasn't complaining or leaving Eggsy to do it on his own.

He appreciates it, the company, and he's kind of charmed by the man's almost grumpy attitude.]

She's just a babe. Not the most talkative, but I think she'll like ya.

[He'd be the only person on the ship to have met his family, and he hopes they get on.]
commontype: (63)

[personal profile] commontype 2016-05-16 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's right.

[The codename suited Merlin, or so Eggsy thought. He was aces at being a handler, and was really good at everything he did. Intimidating as fuck, but he figured that was because of that intense expression he was always sporting.]

You was only eighteen? I joined the Marines at that age.

[He'd done pretty well, too, until he'd let other people influence the choices he was making and had dropped out to go back to his mum and sis.]

Sounds busy as fuck, but once a soldier always soldier. Kinda hard to do somethin' else after bein' trained like that.

[Kingsman hadn't been the same as being in the Marines. The training had been more focused and direct, but it had been easy to go back to it, all the routine, after having that experience already under his belt.]

Ya know somethin', bruv. I ain't told anyone on the ship what I used to do. Here I mean. Was never one for grassin' someone up, and I had a good reason to keep quiet. But people seem to know, yeah? Even though they don't have all the details.

[Eggsy shrugs.]

Guess I'm just sayin' it's nice to be open about it.
imahologram: (fifty-six.)

[personal profile] imahologram 2016-05-16 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[She kisses his shoulder before beginning to walk again. Not so bad is a gross understatement, but she can't blame him for wanting to underplay it a little. As bittersweet as all of this is--returning to the Ingress on Amissis-Re is going to be painful--she's pleased that it's as sweet as it might be bitter.]

Now, I want to take a look at something.

[Back upstairs, the exact opposite direction from the blue guest room--eventually stop outside her room, before a piece of art hanging on the wall.]

This is Killik Twilight. It's an Ob Khaddor. [A little pause.] Are you familiar with his work?
commontype: (44)

[personal profile] commontype 2016-05-16 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Buckingham Palace it is then.

[Eggsy doesn't really care where they go. It's nice just being here, even if they don't know how long they'll get to stay.]

You ever been here?
sparkwhisperer: (Default)

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-17 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
You're not going to leave me alone until I agree, are you?

[Tarn doesn't sound overly enthusiastic about the concept. But for once in the conversation, he doesn't flat out refuse]

I don't know why I'm even considering this...

saveyourserpent: (dramatic)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-05-17 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
They made a pretty big deal of it, but to me it was just sort of business as usual, I suppose. Not that I actually minded the attention it got me at the time, though, heh.

[Still, sometimes he wishes he'd stayed with Tretij instead of going back to England and getting involved with all of that. He'd learned rather quickly that he still hadn't been worth anything to anyone, 'celebrated' youngest member or no. Like he'd needed a big kick in the cynical pants.]

You've got that right. It's been my whole life, really. Since I was a kid. Had a few years where I wasn't really doing anything of the sort and it drove me mad. The 90's wasn't the best time for me, really, funnily enough.

[But it always catches up to him, no matter what, and he'd been thrilled to have the chance to lead FOXHOUND. He stretches his arms out above his head, then crosses them casually.]

Whenever I talk about things I used to do, I admit I sort of pick and choose a bit. Had a friend I used to tell everything to, though. I mean, well, he was psychic so he'd know anyway whether I told him or not, but still. You're right. It's nice to get things out sometimes.

[Nice enough for him to start complaining about everything bad that had happened? Probably not. Yet.]

At least one person on the ship knows at least a little about what I used to do. I'm not sure if he's told others or not. Guess it's not really hurting me in any way to talk about it now, but I've never had much of a reason for it to come up.
straightouttacarbonite: (028)

[personal profile] straightouttacarbonite 2016-05-17 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Considering how badly it could have gone, he can't be blamed for being a little on edge. But it was nice, even if he's not sure how he ranks on the parental approval meter. (Fortunately, he's not terribly worried on that count. It could've gone much worse.) Judging from that little kiss, well enough.

He hasn't got a clue where they're going, so he follows along quietly until she slows to look at the painting, shaking his head at the question. Art theft wasn't really his specialty, so he's clueless.]
t65: (eheu.)

hes literally his shoulder angel???

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-17 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
No. I'm famously stubborn. [He says it with a nervous laugh. Hanging on for dear life off the shoulder of a gigantic, angry droid is maybe not the best place to make self-depricating
commentary.]

Because it's the right thing to do. You know it is.
devilofohara: (sniffle)

[personal profile] devilofohara 2016-05-17 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
[If it were anyone else -or any time else - Robin might have tensed up at being called 'baby girl.' When Toriel had tried to take Robin under her metaphorical wing, the girl put a stop to that immediately.

But here, now, and with Allison, Robin honestly barely even notices it. This is the place where she stopped being anyone's baby girl - to be told that she has somebody who wants her can't be a bad thing. She squeezes closer to Allison, and lets out another sob.

She tries to stop, though - or at least slow down the sobs a bit. She wants to continue.
]

Is it - Can we talk about them for a while? The people who lived here, I mean. Would that be okay?

[She's never had the chance to tell anyone about them yet, but she really feels like she should. This island, and the people who lived on it, are a part of her history, after all - and it's an archaeologist's job to make sure that history doesn't disappear.]

Luke is too good for this trash heap

[personal profile] sparkwhisperer 2016-05-17 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Stubbornness..I suppose that's a trait that I can respect.

[Tarn's shoulders slump beneath Luke as he purposefully avoids eyecontact. He knows its the right thing to do, but he still has reservations about it.]

What if this is it? What if this is the last time that I get to be where I truly fit?
t65: (don't hang out with luke skywalker)

he's more like a barge...

[personal profile] t65 2016-05-17 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, good. [Well, that was a bit sarcastic. Luke is currently climbing around, trying to find a perch that doesn't require him to constantly cling on in hopes he won't fall to his death. It seems a little undignified, after all this.]

You're the one putting limitations on that. [He says while scampering around on Tarn's shoulder.] Maybe your definition of 'fitting in' is too narrow.

[That's kind of really easy to say when you're not a giant purple robot, but you know, semantics.]
