far from nowhere
"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."

With the events of Del Pascia behind the Moira, things are only now beginning to settle—and not very well. Through the combined efforts of some of the crew, D-E-L and her permanent residents were incinerated into the dust of space. While it’s not the most peaceful end, it is one, and not many are going to be thinking back on how nice Del Pascia’s facilities were for quite some time. Repairing what they could of the ship’s interior and putting as much distance between the Moira and the prison as possible, those aboard are informed by Navigation that they are approaching another planet. This means, of course, the potential for better supplies, as some things are beginning to dwindle, and the Captains elect to dock so long as the crew follows protocol.
WELCOME TO AMISSIS-RE

Amissis-Re is an unregistered planet with no documented histories or signs of life. The Moira’s Navigation crew have scanned the planet for any usable resources and have discovered a faint signal emitting from beneath the surface of Amissi-Re. Using the transporters and any other crafts located in the Cargo Bay, the crew are able to travel to the source of the signal. Upon arriving in its exact location, they’ll find a small series of lakes that lead to a tower-like structure that appears to be in use. Crew must cross a poorly assembled bridge system that sways and dips when weight is applied to it in order to gain access to the entrance. Once there, a woman comes out to greet them and explains, excitedly, that she is so very happy that they have come to Amissis-Re.

Everyone can go home.

Their host insists that she has done the impossible and has somewhat fixed the Ingress that’s been built on Amissis-Re a long time ago, and what’s more, she can send crew home for short bursts of time. Upon following this woman inside, crew will find that the planet is not, in fact, barren at all. Diving deep into the underbelly of Amissis-Re, it’s like an eternal factory of machines, and while vast, for whatever reason, it also seems incredibly welcoming...

LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on )
The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out.

An elevator takes crew down to a glass platform that overlooks an inverted Ingress portal. In order to return home, the Moirans will have to take a leap of faith and jump in. Ben, in order to show his commitment to the crew and willingness to help get them home, takes that jump with Captain Thán seconds behind him. Jumping feels like dropping through wind; lights swirl, it’s warm, and a soft buzzing encompasses you as you fall. You don’t feel the landing. One moment you’re falling, and the next, you’re in a new world.

A few hours pass before a similar elevator rises from below and to the left of the Ingress, stopping beside the platform. Ben and Thán step out unharmed.

It works, and everyone can temporarily go home. Will you jump?

COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on )
The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit.

The one guideline, she says, is that you can’t go alone. Each trip requires a partner, or it becomes too much for the mind to bear. These rules are simple: the world takes shape depending on who jumps first, but if crew go hand-in-hand and leap at the same time, the worlds combine. This new world will be populated with people that existed in both and may appear to be a jarring combination of both worlds. It may seem unusual, but if the woman is asked, she’ll explain that the combined world does exist as there are more universes than can be imagined. The Ingress tries to take the person to their own home, their original home, but when jumping together, it finds the closest possible match and deposits them there instead.

From that point on, you can travel the world together or split up, but remember, this world is a living, functioning world. It doesn’t matter if it’s the home of one crew member or a combination. You meet other people. You can get hurt. You influence and are influenced by others.

Be cautious, and enjoy your visit “home”.

LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on )
The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it.

The world you are in now is completely your own, whether another crew member accompanied you or not. The people you know are there, everything around you is exactly as you remember. A few hours pass, and you don’t feel that familiar tug, that invisible hook at the base of your spine that signals that your visit is over. Even more time goes by, and you’re still in that world, your home. When the first day has passed, you begin to question if you’ll ever go back, or if life on the Moira was all a dream. The person with you won’t be able to convince you otherwise, and they’ll start to feel less real, a stranger that you used to know.

There’s only one way to go back to the Moira. Someone from the other side has to come in and retrieve you both. Once in, contact with a third will jump-start a link through the Ingress, and it will pull all crew back to the platform.

Eh, more like an ice town. [Man, the more they keep using the word ice the more Sans is gonna have to tamp down his laughter. The word play is just right there.] Not a whole planet or anything. Just a lot of permafrost.

[He watches Luke dress, showing no sign of putting on any extra layers for himself.]

Sure, lead the way. What's out there? [He winks.] Y'know, aside from snow trenches.

Not like those! Like this!

[And that's when he straight-up transforms. Right in front of Luke. One second there's a robot, the next there's a racecar.]

See?

[Tailgate is perfectly happy to help Robin out with this raft, even though there's no way he's going to be able to get on it. He's not worried though, he's sure one of his friends will pick him up sometime. Or maybe some ingress magic will teleport him back or however it works.

He picks apart some of the larger pieces of wood and puts them next to her. See, he's being helpful!
]

What even happened here? Where are all the people?

[He asks, blatantly missing all of Robin's obvious signs telling him not to look at it or ask questions. Tailgate has never been one to leave things alone.]

And those wooden boat things out in the water! What caused that? I bet it was something wild.
redshitlord: (bad hearted boytrap babydoll)

"Okay, dude, you're going to have to take some coolant or whatever it is humans do to relax. Because I don't know what you're talking about."

He holds up his hands in what he hopes is an apologetic gesture, waving them slightly. Wow, he knew the scrapyard was bad, but this is beyond even Russel's usual irritation. This wasn't even the place with the plastic rodent parade.

"A third what?"

Of course, Sideswipe responds with the trademark teenager answer to hostility they feel is undeserved. Snark.

"You remember how we walked through the spacebridge? That."

Nuh-uh. Ain't going first.

[She gives Cassandra a squinty stare.]

I like ya but I don't like ya that much. You first, gotta deal with me at your back.

Most of it, anyway. There's one continent, but all the other land masses in the world are islands like this one.

[She accepts the piece of wood, hefting it in with the other pieces with the raft, and starts the process of lashing it in place. ]

Royal people? You mean Sea Kings? [ She says, looking up at the Girl. She doesn't really want to scare her friend any more than she already seems to be, but there's not a good answer to give to that. ] Sea Kings are what they call the sea monsters that eat other sea monsters. The biggest ones can eat warships like those, in a single bite.

[ She says, gesturing at the enormous shipwrecks just off the shore. They're in shambles now, but it's clear that in their prime they were all hundreds of feet tall, and nearly three times as long. ]

If one were to spot us on the water, we'd die for sure. It's the risk all sailor's take. Most people spend a lot more than a day out there, though - it's not uncommon for them to go weeks, or even months without setting foot on dry land.

[ There's a pause, as her eyebrows furrow together, a look of concern in her eyes as she looks at her friend. ]

You don't have to go out if you don't want to, though. I know they don't have seas back where you come from.

Asriel's jaw tightens, as if he's trying to maintain some kind of defense around Sans. Just because he tells a few jokes doesn't mean he can just drop his guard and...

His nostrils flare, and no matter how much he clenches his jaw, a "snrrrk" still slips through. His mouth twitches upwards a little.

The second joke breaks through, and Asriel breaks into giggling as he quickly reaches up to cover his mouth. Looks like the Dreemurr family sense of humor is still alive and well, even in one of its youngest members. Asriel doesn't say anything for a little while.

"...They sure do take a while to get through. I guess I should've picked a shorts-er book."

He glances up at Sans, trying (and failing) at keeping a straight face. His puns might not on par with Toriel's, but it doesn't mean he won't try.

The sound of heavy feet landing behind her announce Nihlus' arrival. He stays crouched for a moment, checking his surroundings for any immediate threat, before slowly straightening up.

He was currently decked out in his full armor, helmet and all, heavy pistol on hand.

"See anything familiar?" he asks quietly, peering over the canyon.

"Nuh-uh. It's only been, um." She holds out her hands, trying to remember how old she was and compare to what the boys had told her about the last battle. "Like since before I was born. Just a little older than me."

She stares at him, wide eyed. "2019. That's what D said it was and he ain't never wrong."

Well, so much for offering to sell you a fake ID. [Sans leans hard against his knuckle bones, grin broadening lazily. As far as bar companions, he could do worse. Loki wasn't a bad guy in the least. At least, not outwardly.

Kind of a shit maybe, but weren't they all?]

Anything else you're in the market for? Other than avoiding Amissis-Re, I mean.
ryuuzaki: (hmm - serious)

[personal profile] ryuuzaki 2016-05-11 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't laugh again, but he still looks slightly pleased and amused -- brighter than he had when they'd arrived at the headquarters ten or fifteen minutes earlier.]

Good. All right -- my room next. Unless you're interested in men's suits.

[He heads towards the door.]

Like clockwork, Sans' own laughter doubles in volume. There's a genuineness to his smile that borders on... giddy?

It's strange. Rare is the situation where Sans looks keen on impressing anybody, let alone a small goat. Royal deference isn't likely to blame, either.

"Well, that settles it. You've got your mom's jeans alright."

[Kaworu regards Frisk for a moment in surprise--he's not stupid, he really did expect Frisk to declare their intention to stay out of his timeline now.

He doesn't really understand what makes Frisk willing to do it again.

...no, yes he does.

But really?

A smirk cracks Kaworu's callous countenance--it's not really a nice smirk, either. If such a thing is even possible.
]

You really are desperate, aren't you?

Well, I won't stop you. After all, I need someone else to get through that gate.

I'm pretty hard to offend.

[She softly laughs, almost in disbelief at what he's just said to her. As she moves to hurry into the driver's seat, she takes notice of the fact that the zombies are closing in around them. If they don't get moving, he's going to have to run some of them over to get them out of the way.]

Unless you want me washing fleshling off of you, it's time to get the hell out of here. If they get any closer, you won't have any choice but to run them over.

[Understanding the trust issues that the kid has, Cassandra just shrugs and moves to step through the portal first. She knows that the girl will follow right along after her. So as she feels the pull of being transported and winds up a little disoriented, she just tries to ignore it and walk ahead to make sure that everything's relatively safe wherever they've ended up.

It looks like an old, small town. The stench of death and rot is in the air, which means they've found their way to her version of Earth. Great.
]

Keep your weapon out and ready to use, got it?

[She glances over, knowing the girl will be there.]

[personal profile] deal 2016-05-11 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not really a suit wearing kind of girl.

[She snorts, rolling her eyes as she follows along after him. She's interested in seeing what kind of place he lived in, and what kind of clothes he wore. He's been a good friend to her so far, so she wants to learn more about him.]

I'm curious about why you lived in the same building as a bunch of serial killers, though.
ryuuzaki: (L Change the World)

[personal profile] ryuuzaki 2016-05-11 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
[He gives her A Look: now, now, Cassandra.]

Two suspected mass murderers and a number of police officers. The two were under observation by the organization I work for.

[He is that organization, more or less, or at least its core; everyone is else a hand, an eye, some kind of necessary assistant. But it's easier and better to play it all off as though he's not the central figure.]
deal: (yeah okay)

[personal profile] deal 2016-05-11 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
So you were playing some kind of intense game of mousetrap.

[She quirks an eyebrow, and hurries to match his stride so she can give him a nudge. She doesn't really care or mind, but she's just curious and trying to figure him out a little better.

She doesn't think anything of his answer, and doesn't suspect that he's a more central figure than he's letting on. Everyone has jobs, she knows, and his just happens to be something that sounds really time and life consuming.
]
ryuuzaki: (reflection - window)

a dangerous game of cat and also-cat!

[personal profile] ryuuzaki 2016-05-11 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Mm. [His smile is so subtle that it's almost more of an encouraging expression.] Something like that.

Although I'm afraid that watching someone in the hopes that they'll eventually slip up isn't terribly intense. It's long stretches of boredom, then something occasionally happens... if you're lucky. If not....

[He shrugs, as if to say It can't be helped -- although the truth is that it sometimes can be, if you can make something happen to force your opponent's hand. Arguably, that kind of catalyzation used to be his specialty. There's been less call for it in more recent days.

Just then, they come upon a door. The corridor is hotel-like, but unlike the other doors they've passed, there's a small, dark glass panel set into the wall next to it with a numbered keypad below it. He presses several of the numbers in quick succession, then holds his palm against the panel, then, as the door unlocks, he pulls the pistol from the holster again.

It doesn't take long for him to clear the room.]

[personal profile] braceforimpact 2016-05-11 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Frisk is weirdly unafraid when it comes to pain of the physical kind, but they're very sensitive to pain of the heart. He'd noticed it already, but this... is really almost impressive.

Even though they were shot and killed, they're offering to go back without even any hesitation?

What does Frisk think will happen if they break that oh-so-important promise?

What would happen?

Whatever.

It suits him just fine right now.

Then I'm ready whenever you are.

[personal profile] gainedlove 2016-05-11 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Let's go now, then.

[Frisk smiles slightly and nods, rubbing their fingers together. The mental image of Kaworu gazing at the ceiling resurfaces, and for once they don't reach to try and hold his hand before turning to the door.]

Maybe we'll be put in a different spot this time.
