Where: Medbay and the Hold
What: Directly after this. Peter really screwed up and now he's hanging out in the medbay until he recovers. Later he hangs out in the hold. Wanda's around to feild all your questions about how stupid her twin is.

[For those first long minutes of her being in the room, there’s silence. He wonders what she’s gearing up for. Crying? A lecture? Maybe this is the end of another friendship, the moment where she kicks him out of the café for good. Don’t come near me. Don’t come back.

Even though he’s felt prepared for yelling, half expecting it from everyone that had entered lately, he still jumps a little when she does. Which makes him reach for his side, but has startled him too much to so much as gasp. He just stares, riveted to her tirade.]

I know I’m stupid. [He says it carefully, unsure of where this is going.] I know.

Stupid. [That last one is quiet as tears start to prick her eyes. Then she reaches out with a clenched fist to tap it softly against his cheek in the gentlest punch known to mankind.]

I should kick your whole ass. What are you doing, trying to kill people, you're like five years old.

[He takes it, closing his eyes briefly when the touch connects. In any other circumstance, he'd laugh about it. But he understands this is as much her way of caring as Wanda's refusal to leave his side.]

Can it wait until I'm out of the bed? I think the doctor's might get mad if I pop the stitches. [It's supposed to be a joke. It falls flat.

He sighs, looks back to his hands.]

I was trying to protect someone. That's what I was doing. I just wanted to keep her safe.

I'll beat you up later. [She lets her fist drop and then sags forward to let her forehead rest on Peter's shoulder.]

Yeah, Wanda told me. I wish you'd told someone. Before getting into all this.

[The gesture is both surprising and not. It reminds him of his little sister back home, cuddling to him after a scare. He's pressing a hand to the back of her skull, running over her hair before he realizes what he's doing. But even after he doesn't pull away. He's a mess at a lot of things, but this kind of non-verbal comfort is at least something he's had practice with. Even if it was only with a scared six year old.]

Did she? [It's kind of a relief, not having to talk about it again.]

I told one person. [He's heard the news by now, that he's not the only one on trial. It's something he's also upset about, that his attempts at pushing Alice out of this had been for nothing.] I just didn't want to drag more people down with me. Give him anyone else to target.

[Allison lets out something that sort of resembles a laugh when Peter starts stroking her hair.]

Stupid. I should be the one comforting you. [It's not clear which of them she's calling stupid.]

One person isn't enough. You should've told everyone. You've got friends, Wanda's got friends, I'm your friend and I have friends. Rinzler's just one guy, he can't take on all of us.

If you haven't noticed, Allison, I'm kind of crap at doing things they way I'm supposed to.

[Translation: shhhh and accept his lame attempts at being a good brother.]

But he was my problem. And you saw what he did to- to her. [He can't actually say it, can't make himself.] What if that had been any of you? Wanda? Maybe we could have gotten him in the end, but what if someone got hurt trying?

Someone did get hurt trying. [She says it softly. She doesn't blame Peter for what happened to J. That was all on Rinzler. But- gosh, going after Rinzler the way he did was just the stupidest thing.]

But there are strong people on this ship. Stronger than me, definitely, and stronger than you. I have a giant alien robot that likes to come to my cafe every week. How much better do you think things could have gone with him guarding your back?

Don't. Please. [He flinches and lets go of her, turning his face away in a small effort to put distance between them despite the close proximity. He hasn't been dealing with what happened to J, would rather just black out that memory and come back to it later. once he's healed, once he's actually alone instead of being surrounded by medical staff and hovering siblings.

He's never dealt with death on this personal level before, he has no idea how to even begin sorting out how he feels about his involvement in losing J.]

I can't ask your friends to deal with my problems.

[Allison lets out a heavy breath through her nose. She's still kind of angry at Peter for almost dying, but she also doesn't want to see him hurt, physically or emotionally. He's gonna have to deal with what happened to J eventually, but... She'll leave it for now.]

Yes you can. We're a crew, we need to stick together and help each other out. What if it had been me in trouble and I didn't ask you for help, huh?

A crew? Allison look around. We're stuck together but that doesn't make anyone around here anything. Why do you think we all keep fighting each other?

[He shakes his head.]

You can't start asking what would have been. You weren't the one in trouble. You're not the one pissing off robots.

Well, we should be a crew! [She throws her hands up, feeling frustrated about everything, in particular her inability to do anything useful to help people.]

A real one! Where even if we don't like each other we sort it out like sane adults with shitty coworkers instead of killing people! And we look after each other!

[Cursing, she covers her face with her hands.]

I don't want you to get hurt more.

You can't just ask that of people brought together against their will. Sometimes people are just too different to be forced to get along. And they've brought some really bad people here while giving us no way to deal with them.

[He sighs. This was always going to happen, whether with him and Rinzler or someone else. It had happened with someone else before, would happen again. And while part of him didn't care, because he didn't care about any of it as long as it didn't effect his family or friends, he felt it was the reality they had to get used to.

With the kind of people that had been brought here, things would never be truly peaceful.]

I'm not. You don't have to worry about that. I'm going to be fine.

Yes I can! If you get stuck in a situation you've gotta learn to work together so you can get out of it! [That's how a million movies go. Work together or die. Life can be like movies!] And if you can't get along then you keep your distance. And if we work together we can deal with the bad people...

[Her bluster slowly drains out, her voice going soft and quiet.]

You better not. Pinkie promise.

That's bull. When have people ever learned to work together in a situation like this? [This isn't a one of those heart warming specials, this has more in common with a horror movie.

He sighs, but holds out his hand for her with the pinkie stretched out.]

I promise. I'll be fine.

Like, the dawn of civilization? People working together is how we all exist.

[Okay so it's a lot more complicated than that, but-

She hooks her pinkie with Peter's and gives it a firm shake.]

You better be. Otherwise I'm going to kick your whole ass. And make all your drinks wrong. And give you a hug.

[Carefully, she makes good on that last threat.]

And what did civilization do? Fan out, make some people worth less than others and then steal a bunch of other people's land. The world so does not work together. On anything. We just had, like, two wars proving that.

[He shakes it again, a quick and shaky movement before he drops his hands back in his lap.]

You don't already make my drinks wrong? I kind of thought you skimped on my requests for added sugar. And ew. No hugs, I'm not four.

[He lies. He likes hugs.]

Stop being such a cynic, you're making me depressed. Just because some people mess it up doesn't mean that for the most people aren't capable of co-operation...

[She huffs.]

I don't make all your drinks wrong. So shut up and take your hugs like a man.

[He disagrees, and it shows on his face. But he keeps that thought to himself. Let Allison have her optimism, even as wrong as he thinks it is. At least someone ought to be happy with the world.]

Just, like, 80% of the time. [He comes close to sticking his tongue out at her.] Ugh. Fine. Just not in front of people. I have a reputation.

[Time for a long, long sigh. And more hug.]

You're lucky you're injured right now or I'd noogie your ridiculous grey mop right off.

Hey, plenty of people happen to like my hair, okay? It's cool.

Still ridiculous.

[Just gonna keep hugging this dumb until she feels reassured.]
