When: 15th to early 18th in the medbay, late 18 to the 23rd in the hold
Where: Medbay and the Hold
What: Directly after this. Peter really screwed up and now he's hanging out in the medbay until he recovers. Later he hangs out in the hold. Wanda's around to feild all your questions about how stupid her twin is.

I can't read someone without a brain. But I've seen Peter's memories. Rinzler threatened me and Peter tried to handle it alone. I didn't know.

[Her hands clench into fists, nails digging into her palms.]

Rinzler's dangerous. He doesn't care who he hurts. Even if you could separate them, how long would it be before this happens to someone else?

So we should kill him? [Elizabeth looks right at Wanda, eyes dispassionate but searching her friend's expression.] We live on a ship where people come back from the dead with alarming frequency-- are you thinking the best option is to hope he doesn't?

That aside... [She looks back at Peter, though she's not looking at him. Her mind is elsewhere, back when she considered herself dangerous, and she didn't care who she hurt as long as she got what she wanted.] I can't disagree with you on the point that he's dangerous, and I don't find the fact that he threatened you acceptable, but I can't condone any method of controlling him.

Locking him up every time he hurts someone isn't working.

[And there is, alarmingly, nothing. It's like some part of Wanda has just shut down, because she's also not entirely here - the part of her that never left the church has reasserted itself with a vengeance.

If you ask her, Rinzler simply isn't afraid of or deterred by any of the current punishments and that's the problem. He has no reason to even try to behave, almost killed her brother the first time over a teenager being a teenager. Maybe if she had showed him that there was someone here he couldn't overpower the first time when he hurt Bel, this wouldn't have happened.

Or maybe he would have simply attacked her that night in the library and they would all be having a very different conversation now.]

If Peter had told anyone, what would have happened?

I would have listened. If I'd known he'd said something to him, threatening you, I would have gone to the captains immediately. And I wouldn't have stopped until they had done something.

[And she means it, with all of her being. Wanda is her friend, Peter is her friend, what good was all of her hard work and her promotion if she couldn't use it to make the ship safer? Better for the people she cares for?]

Do you think I wouldn't have been able to do something to help? Or would have just shrugged it off?

I think you would have done everything you can. I don't think they would have.

[There was absolutely no follow up after that fight on the spacewalk that Wanda knows of, and if someone was sent to talk to Rinzler it clearly didn't work. And to be honest, she would have been afraid for anyone who tried. What if Elizabeth had gotten herself hurt or worse trying to intervene? He was already dangerously unstable.]

Then it's up to me.

[Elizabeth feels some kind of purpose, suddenly. She's not in charge of discipline by any means, she doesn't hand down verdicts, she doesn't even feel comfortable voting in these things-- but mediation seems to be what she has to do. If the captains can't do it, it's her job.]

This position I have, I refuse to let it be a fancy moniker that is supposed to 'mean' something while I sit on my quilts in front of my fake fireplace and do nothing. This is detrimental to the functioning of the ship, and if the captains won't say or do something, I sure as hell will.

[The anger Wanda feels is suddenly replaced by cold fear. She can't, he'll kill her, it's way too dangerous...and Elizabeth is going to do it anyway no matter what Wanda says. She knows her too well.

They are too alike in some ways.]

If you wait until he is out of the hold...take me with you. He's dangerous.

[She is not sure it would lessen her desire to turn Rinzler inside-out, but it would give her a productive way to help that is not going to make Steve's life harder or disappoint Billy.]

[What was it Miles had done when she'd revealed to him she'd ventured to a strange location with no backup, without even telling anyone where she'd gone? Ah, right, he'd laughed because it was reckless and because he'd have done the same thing. In the moment, it had been a habit-- venturing into the unknown and dangerous by herself had been her life before and after Booker. She doesn't have to do that now, though. She's seen Wanda's abilities in action as well, so the decision seems pretty clear-cut.]

I don't have a bodyguard assigned to me, I'm not quite that important around here yet. [She smirks faintly at Wanda.] Think you'd be up for it for at least one meeting?

Maybe you should if you have to do the captains' jobs.

[Or at least someone/i> she can call on if a situation looks like it's going to go sour. It would be so irresponsible to let Elizabeth go alone to talk to someone who's killed two people and tried to kill at least three.]

No one will hurt you if I'm there. You just need to ask.

Then I'm asking. [She shifts a little in her chair-- it's been a long time since she's had someone help her stay safe, and she'd never stop thinking of Booker as her friend and her partner. But he's not here anymore, and she can't do everything herself. She has to stop doing everything herself or she could end up the short-lived first mate of the Moira.]

This won't be the last conflict we have on this ship-- and if the captains won't step up to mediate them before they escalate, I have to. That won't make too many people happy, I imagine...
